Anyone else got a barely-napping 5mo?!

Ds2 has been awake since 0520 this morning and has had 2 X 30 minute naps.

Frankly, sick d the sight of him!!! And his constant misering/whinging.

Dealing with 3yo ds1 as well. Both driving me mad.

Anyone else got a baby who barely naps?!

I am doing everything I can to provide him with opportunities to sleep every 2 hours or so but he either doesn't take it or wakes after 32 mins (precisely. Every time).

Not got time to make my whole day about getting him to sleep for the sake of a paltry 30 minute nap.

Ds1 was the same and got much better at 7mo once crawling and fully weaned onto solids so I know it's just a phase that my fucking children go through.

Not looking for solutions.

But Jesus Christ it is exhausting and annoying.

Anyone sharing my pain?

My ds is 8 mo and has never napped longer than 35 mins ever since he was a few weeks old. Used to be four times a day but is now three, and every one is a struggle unless he falls asleep on the bottle. My house is a mess and I frankly don't believe naps of 40 plus mins exist! They're just a rumour made to taunt us ...

Sorry, no help, but I feel your pain!

Is he your first??

If it makes you feel any better my older son was like this as a baby as well, and then at some point around 10mo turned into a total textbook napper: 40 mins mid morning and 90 mins after lunch.

And then around the age of 1 dropped the morning nap and just had 2 hours (bliss!) after lunch every day until he was 2.5yo!!!

I did nothing to make this happen. It just all sorted itself out in the end and he was a very predictable toddler with a very set, long, post-lunch sleep. I loved it!!

So your little boy might suddenly get the hang of longer naps when he is older - fingers crossed for both of us.

Dealing with a baby like this and a boisterous 3yo is pretty hellish atm though 😫😫

My nearly 6 mo old is a nap avoider! He takes around 3 30 minute naps a day but can take up to an hour to fall asleep. I try not to get frustrated but it can be hard. I feel your pain!

I know you're not looking for solutions but I find if I stick to a rigid 90 mins waking time then put him down I do have more success. It's not always convenient though!

My 3mo has 4 10/15min naps a day. But she does sleep between 12 and 14 hours at night.

My house is also a shit hole, I'm just attempting to embrace this "routine" as at least I get sleep at night!!

Yep my 6.5 mo dd doesn't nap well. She seemed to get a bit better before Christmas but now it's all gone wrong again and will only sleep on me, either at boob or in carrier and they are only 30 mins. I get so frustrated (I have cried a few times already today) and yet I don't know why it bothers me so much! Think I just need some time to myself.

I think it's time to myself I miss but I feel guilty for saying that! My DS is a good sleeper at night too so I shouldn't moan

Oh yes. I have that kind of baby. Queen of the cat nap.

She does sleep through the night. But was a 15 min napper, gradually extending up to the precise 30min nap. Although today she has fought all attempts at a nap until almost 3pm and is still asleep just now! No idea what to do with my self apart from drink tea Grin

Glad to hear I am not alone!! But sorry to hear you're all dealing with non-mappers too!

It's worse this time round cos I have to prioritise doing things for my 3yo or else e starts to go bonkers and trash the house! So we have to go out to playgroups/the park/play dates etc. There's no chance of making "sorting out ds2's naps" my aim of the day. Poor little bastard just gets dragged out the house all the time and is probably partly why he is so unsettled. Or it's just genetic cos the older one was like this too 😫

My little one is the same 30 minutes only can be out in the pushchair & still the same. Doesn't sleep that great at night either. Hanging on to the belief that it will all improve at 6 months. Has varying levels of grumpiness from very cheerful to moaning all day.

Bot, you have given me hope that he might start to nap longer eventually!! Yes, my first, so can only imagine how hard it is with two. I go back to bed for his first nap now, only 30 mins dozing but it's keeping me sane-ish.

At least if he's like your first you only (only!!) have 5 more months to go!

I'm feeling your pain, my 3 month old cat naps during the day and can be awake for absolutely hours. Today he's been awake since 12 midday, don't know how he does it. He drifts off on the bottle sometimes and then wakes as soon as I put him down. It's relentless!!

My nearly 8 m.o. daughter hardly ever slept for more than 30 minutes at a time. It's often 25. She does 3 of those a day.

FWIW don't beat yourself up about your busy schedule, we've got DD going down in a cot in a darkened room for her naps and she still doesn't sleep longer than 30 minutes. Our best bet is usually the pram. She occasionally sleeps for 45 minutes, but it's rare.

To be honest, I didn't know to expect anything better, and I seem to know quite a lot of women with non-napping babies, so thought we were doing OK! Occasionally I read one of those sleep sites where they tell you sternly that Baby Should Be Taking Two 1.5 Hour Naps A Day, and think 'Huh. That must be nice for all those other mums' Wink

Yep same here! DS is 6 months at the end of this month and is a 30 minute napper! Not so long ago he went through a phase of doing 3 hours sometimes but they are now a distant memory he has also forgotten how to sleep at night it's torturous I'm exhausted! I have perfected getting a shower and getting ready into 30 minutes but that's about the only positive! Back to work in 7 weeks and I don't know how I'll cope on so little sleep if he hasn't improved by then! If one more person says to me 'sleep when the baby sleeps' I may kill them! He gets nowhere near the amount of sleep he 'should' in 24 hours!
