Cradle cap / baby acne

Hi all,
My 6 week old seems to be suffering with mild case of baby acne. Only flares up really in the warmth and when he's flustered / frustrated. It's also worse on one side, the side he sleeps mostly on etc. We are 85/90% certain it's acne as it isn't anywhere else on his body and flares up and down & when we're out barely there.... Had it couple of weeks now but doesn't seem to be getting any better.

For the past week we have noticed dry flaky patches on his eyebrows which do go red. And does seem to be cradle cap as know it can appear here.

Mixed with his acne he doesn't have a very pretty face at the miment. We olive oil his head (just dry) and his eyebrows every night but any advice on getting rid?? Every website mainly discussed shampoo for his scalp! He has fine scalp! Just these eyebrows!

I've got dentinox but as his scalp is ok am yet to try - unless a bit on the eyebrow?!
Also have oilatum junior wash ready for when we put stuff in his bath as currently just water.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Lou

It's only time I'm afraid.DS had cradle cap from 6 weeks which took about a month to clear. Applying Oilatum cream 3 times a day helped but it takes time to clear completely. I applied a little sunflower oil that helped.

They're milk spots, I think. Is baby breast fed? Apparently the hormones in breast milk give them a bit of a spotty complexion for the first few weeks. It does get a bit more noticeable with heat. Nothing to worry about, and It'll go away by itself, no need to 'treat' it.

DD had a constellation of little spots and crusty eyebrows/flaky head. All better now at 10 weeks [smile ]

No he's bottle fed. The face doesn't bother me as much because as you say the heat affects it... Etc.
it's more his eyebrows. Crusty yellow, making him look like he has a monobrow going on!
Been using the olive oil before a bath & bit after to soak in over night but am yet to try wiping the flakes off with brush or flannel... May give that a go!

The olive oil has done wonders for his forehead & hair line where was all dry, it's just this is the equivalent of cradle cap! Just wish the olive oil would be as effective here too!

Yeh I had my 6 wk check up today - they didn't bat an eyelid at little man, guess that's what will happen at his 8 wk checkup / immunisation... And I mentioned his eyebrows and the Dr said olive oil and patience!
I don't have that at the best of times!

Main thing is. He's not bothered by it & he's happy & healthy!
Here's hoping its at its worst and only on its way up and clearing up from now!

TBH I just used to run my thumbnail across DD's flaky brow patches while she was feeding. The flakes would lift and peel off under my nail, no harm done to her face.

It was gross but irresistible . . .

My friend used Vaseline on the eyebrows and it cleared it up. For me at little bit of breast milk helped the acne... But it does clear up with eventually.

Lots of olive oil and let it really soak in, then brush out with a fine tooth comb. I used a nitty gritty comb and it worked fantastically. Soooo grim and satisfying seeing all the clumps of softened flakes coming out.

I picked off DS's eyebrow flakes. They come off really easily with some gentle scraping with a fingernail, especially after a bath.

Acne goes away on its own. My daughter had it really badly at around 8 weeks or so, and it can be unsightly - but don't go out of your way to get rid, it will resolve on its own.

Just leave it and it'll go away on its own - DS cleared up at about 4 months - it affected his scalp and eyebrows, but it didn't bother me and he seemed oblivious.

Mine had this - such a shame when all you want to do is take pictures.

The acne cleared up all by itself inside two weeks. I used Dentinox Cradle Cap shampoo and the cradle cap cleared up but I have heard coconut oil is also good for this. That went too.

Don't worry - he'll be back to his gorgeous self soon! Smile

My 6 week old girl has baby acne right now all over both cheeks and forehead. I remember my ds had the same. Just when you want to get out and about and show them off eh? :)

It goes on its own (the acne).

Flakiness comes off if you scrape very gently with a fingernail - I used to do a tiny bit at a time when dd was asleep on my lap or feeding.

Acne you just have to wait, sorry. DD's lasted quite a few weeks, 6 weeks was the worst though IIRC so you may see improvement soon.

Try Aveeno. It worked wonders on my little girls eyebrows. Also when the acne flare ups went down her cheeks where a bit bump, the aveeno was great for making the strokeably soft again. The flare ups seem to have stopped now, 8 weeks, nor sure if it the weather or her put growing it or the aveeno.

Thanks all for your comments.
It seems the olive oil has started kicking in and gentle brushinh after bath the flakes are coming of and not returning so fingers crossed on its way out.

Turns out face isn't acne is mild eczema! We noticed it going dry yesterday & having had sweat rash / eczema in the family I questioned it. We have his 8 week check in 10 days but rang drs to see if I should wait it out. I wasnt worried or panicking but they said come in on safe side. Been prescribed Aveeno :-) and Dr said as mild case shouldnt be too long before it kicks in! And will help with eyebrows too!! So fingers crossed back to baby soft soon enough! I miss photos!!

Thanks again! Xx

This is a photo of my LO at 9 or 10 weeks. He had the worst case of cradle cap my GP had ever seen - all over his face, bless him.

We had to use a mild steroid behind his ears where it was weepy, but other than that the only thing that worked was olive oil. It cleared up of its own accord in time and he had the most beautiful skin. I was told it was a reaction to my hormones in the womb.
