Moving DD to her own room

We are thinking of putting DD into her own room over the next few weeks so looking for tips etc on how best to do it.

Do we keep doors open in order to hear her, or closed due to fire risk?

She's a pretty good sleeper at the moment so desperately hoping a move doesn't upset the applecart!

How old is she? Not sure what all the rules are now - they may have changed, but DS went in his own room at 12 weeks. He was too hot (boiling summer) in the crib and getting a bit big for it. We initially put the crib in the cot bed (with him in it) at night for a couple of days (to get used to his new surroundings). Put mobile above his cot, baby monitor on. He was absolutely fine.

She's just short of 6 months. We've never had a monitor, would it be worthwhile getting one?

Someone will come along with more recent experience, but if your DD is upstairs in bed and you are downstairs then I reckon a baby monitor would be a good idea. We kept DS's room door almost closed to avoid pets going in at night - so wouldn't have been able to hear him.
