Hydrocile worries

My ds is 5 weeks old it was spotted when he was born that he had a hydrocile (enlarged testicle) we have been referred to urology and have an appointment in a couple of months.
I've just changed his nappy and noticed it looks bigger and slightly purple. He's not in any pain and having plenty of wet nappies etc. Anyone any experience of this? Do I need to take him the GP? Or do I ring the urology department to try get an earlier appointment?

I'd see someone asap. My DS had an inguinal hernia so somewhat different but blood supply in that area is something they like to pay attention to so if you have noticed a change I'd say get it checked out sooner rather than later.

In that area always worth getting checked.

It could be that he has a virus, ds had his repaired last month but prior to that whenever he had a virus it got bigger for some reason but the doctors said that was normal

DS2 had one of these and was referred to a consultant to have it checked. It resolved itself of it's own accord in the end, but if it hadn't he would have needed a small operation. Best to get it checked and you're doing.

Thanks been to get it checked she said as long as it's not tender or causing him pain it's fine but keep an eye on it. My eldest had 1 too that fixed itself so hopefully this will too.

My DS's hydrocele was picked up when he was born and a surgeon came to see us on the ward and told us to get it reviewed if it was still present at 18 months of age.

DS had just turned one and his hydrocele is still present. Some days it does look purplish and it's size fluctuates but DS isn't in any discomfort with it.

The fact that it hasn't disappeared yet makes me think that it won't go away on it's own. We were told it may need surgical repair.

I can't remember when ds1's went, we were referred to urology because he also has a slight hyperspadias (not sure that's spelt right) which ds2 had which he did need surgery for. Seems ds3 got a mixture of them both poor thing.

DS ended up with both to. His hydrocele disappeared then came back when he was 5!

Sirzy did your ds have surgery for the hyperspadias? My ds had surgery when he was 12m he's 5 now and I suspect it's opened up again he always sits down to wee, obviously with him being 5 and going the toilet by himself I don't really get the chance to inspect it so to speak like I could when he was in nappies. When I have watched him on the toilet I've noticed that it does come out underneath at 1st then as the flow gets going it comes out the end as normal. Also this is probably tmi but we all know little boys get little erections now and again I've never once noticed this not even as a baby this worries me for his future.

He did yes when he was about 18 months, all seems fine with his thankfully. Perhaps worth mentioning it to your GP incase it needs checking again?

He's still under the consultant ds3 was given the same constant so they've got a joint appointment later in the year
