Sling for an overweight parent

what would the best sling be for a parent that is overweight? i am totally unfamiliar with slings so i don`t know what would best be for my LO but I desperately need one as he seems to settle only in my arms - which obviously doesn't give me time for pretty much anything else..

How old is your baby? Most slings would be OK as they come in different sizes or some have a waist band extender.

For a tiny a stretchy or a ring sling is best. Can you get to a sling library to try some?

A stretchy wrap is nice if you don't mind tying it, you can tie it on and slip the baby in and out. It is very soft and supportive for the baby and your back, especially if you mean to carry him quite a bit during the day.

I'm a 14, and had to wrap the ends round me a couple of times to get it short enough, so would think it would be fine - and you can tie at the back if needed.
Or, Moby do an extra long wrap, I think.

Do you have a sling library near you? Always best to try before you buy as everyone prefers something different.

Soft structured carriers (buckles) like ergo, tula, beco, manduca etc have adjustable straps. Wrap slings come in all different lengths. Combination of your size and length of wrap dictate what carries you can do so a longer length wrap if you are larger in size would mean you could do a front cross carry which is what most people start out with.

There are also lots of small businesses making custom carriers either from fabrics or doing wrap conversions so taking a wrap sling, chopping it up and turning the fabric into a more structured carrier. They can do the straps custom length for you.

Whatever weight you are, be it a touch over what you'd like or rather more than that, there will be a sling to suit you :)

Ideas a size 16/18 and liked my mobi wrap but loved my mai tai wrap when children were small. got the mei tai on amazon reasonably cheaply.

We have an amawrap //www.amawrap.com - a stretch wrap great for plus size people (we both wear it) and good quality without being too expensive. Our two week old loves it and snuggles off to sleep or just sits there quite happily while I get on with chores.

We used a Caboo when I was obese (BMI 31, size 14) and DH was overweight (BMI 28, size L). Loads of extra fabric so would easily have fit someone larger than us as well, plus very easy to use.

Forgot to add, they often have a 'try me' version of main carriers/slings on John Lewis, which is what we did before getting the Caboo, Mamas and Papas do the same although mostly their own brand and Baby Bjorn, near us anyway.

I'm an 18 (on a good day. ;-) ) and have a closer caboo. Love it. DH is considerably bigger than me and he gets on well with it too!
