If I have started a star chart.....

So I started a star chart for DD for letting me clean her teeth for her. She has never liked having her teeth cleaned & will only do it if I tell her she will get a star sticker. The stickers don't lead to anything she just likes to stick them on herself, got told well done & have a high five! My question is can I ever stop this now? Do I have to keep giving her stickers until she tells me she doesn't want them? I don't have an exit strategy help!
DD is 2.3 by the way.

Yes by reduction. So for the first phase, one sticker every teeth clean (this can be for as long as there is resistance). Then later one sticker for both teeth cleans on a day. Then "run out" of stickers and see if she cares.

Hew did a star chart for potty training. He was over it by about the 15th sticker. He was just over 3

I used to reduce using stickers once they'd mastered it and just praise, then the star chart can be reused for toilet training, getting dressed by self, staying in bed all night and other milestones as they get older. My ds and dd would sometimes give me a sticker sometimes so it must work :)

We love a star chart in this house. We've adpated it over the years. It started with potty training, and it's now onto getting good marks in spelling tests and getting homework in on time.
