Hello ladies

I'm thinking of using reusable nappies for little one (due in April)

I'm hoping you lovely mummies can help me figure this out ...

How many nappies a day do you go through on average with a new born?

And how many nappies with a toddler?

I really want to understand if reusable is the best thing for us

I got a trial lot of 5 through my local council for £20. Tried them for a month but weren't absorbent enough.

I estimate we spend around £10-£15 per month on disposables if that helps.

When Babybone was tiny we changed nappies about every 2-3 hours and, now he's 1, about 3-4 hours. I think the quantity is roughly the same as disposable. Have you looked at www.thenappylady.co.uk/ to find the best option for you?

I recommend //www.thenappylady.co.uk she has a questionnaire to fill in and she can give recommendations based on your circumstances. We also got a 3week trial kit to help us decide. DD was early and we didn't start using cloth till she was 10 weeks old. It's so liberating knowing we don't have to budget for nappies every month, just wash every few days. Also use washable wipes too. Bins don't fill up so quick either!
Same amount of nappies per day as disposables, if anything less now as I find cloth are more absorbent. Less poonami's also as the cloth nappies contain the explosion better.

We used disposables for the first six weeks or so then got a trial kit of nappies as mentioned above. DD is quite dinky so some fit better than others so I think it's a good idea to try before you buy. We initially bought 10 which meant we washed every other day, and she had the occassional disposables day if we weren't organised enough. Bought another 6 nappies at 6 months which gives us a bit more flexibility. Would definitely recommend as long as you check out which ones fit your baby best-which also gives you a chance to check out what the manufacturers promise about drying times! We're using Totsbots and would thoroughly recommend. Try //www.growupgreen.co.uk (It is useful to have disposable backup though and we use Pampers for overnight as they last up to 12 hrs,so am not entirely sin-free!)

I forgot to say we have 15 nappies for daytime (Bumgenius) and 4 for night time (little lambs) which last 12 hours. I wash every 2-3 days.
