11 week old baby doesn't smile

DS5 was born at 36+6 so should only be 8 weeks. He doesn't smile though. His mouth kind of twitches sometimes and turns up at one of the corners very slightly but not a proper smile. Should I be worried? He was born with an apgar of 6 and took ages to breathe on his own which has made be a bit paranoid I think.

Hi Ellie. My little boy was born at 35 weeks with an intial apgar of 3 rising to 9 after 10 minutes and like your boy took ages to breathe on his own. He began proper smiling at about 13 weeks so 8 weeks corrected. I was worried too and desperate for a smile. Allow him a bit more time. It will come. Sounds like he's starting to learn already.

I have a 35 weeker and he took ages to smile too, 12+ weeks, I was starting to worry and he is ds2 so I'm way more relaxed about things with him!! He did it in the end, can't stop him now Smile I'd give him a bit longer but you can always speak to your hv

Thankyou both. Hopefully I'll see a proper smile soon.

My twins were born at 37 weeks and dts didn't smile properly until 12 weeks. In fact he would avoid eye contact so I was worried about him. He wasn't very smily until around a year but now at almost 2, he's a very happy and sociable chappy Smile.
