Baby just banged head :-(

My baby just banged her head for about the third time this week Sad

She is just coming up to 6 months so rolling, sitting and trying to crawl flail along the ground. If she sees something she wants she just launches herself at it but this has led to a couple of bumped heads. The same with her sitting- she sits really steadily for ages and then suddenly reaches for something, unbalances and falls backwards. I sit on the floor next to her/with her between my legs but it takes 1 second of inattention for this to happen!

She is playing on a playmat in her carpeted bedroom- I daren't let her on the ground on any of the wood floors in the kitchen and living room!

How can I prevent her bumping herself whilst letting her explore physically?

It's really normal

Babies are wobbly and don't have great spatial awareness

Totally normal! Put cushions or pillows around her when she's sat up, to minimise the bumps, but she will be far worse when learning to walk. The skull is very thick for good reason :)

It's what happens I'm afraid. Same when they begin to stand and walk and run too.

Put cushions round her on wooden floors and she shouldn't hurt herself. I found my bump pillow quite handy for wrapping round dd at a similar age.

I wouldn't worry unless it is particularly hard or she seems "off it" for a significant time after - wait til she starts to try crawling - LOTS of bruises then and more when walking starts!!

My dd is 8mo and has a permanent red mark on her forehead as she seems to only land on one button her head!!
