Fresh fruit finger foods

Hi everyone

I've been determined to start giving 9mo DS more fresh fruit as finger food recently, but I'm currently on a milkshake/soup diet and therefore not allowed to eat fruit, and DH will only have a limited amount. So we're struggling with wasting lots as we can't eat it all before it goes off!

A friend suggested freezing fruit, taking it out the night before ready for the following day - great idea I thought!

So I diligently went out and bought a selection (strawberries, raspberries, kiwis and grapes), dished them out into some freezer pots and froze them. I put a tub in the fridge last night ready for today and it's all watery/slimy! I'm so annoyed! Sad

So I do I do this freezing fruit lark? Is some fruit better than others? Can I dish the fruit out into tubs before, or should I group them together and just grab selection the night before? Won't that make it difficult as they'll all be frozen together into clumps?!

Any other tips/suggestions? I'm not very imaginative with the whole finger food so anything easy you can suggest would be gratefully received!

Can you not but things individually in the supermarket/green grocers? 1 apple, 1 orange, 1 pear or the ready prepared little packs for lunch boxes? We bought a couple of little tubs of raspberries this weekend and they lasted DD 2 meals when given a little handful after each meal and snacks.

If you freeze fresh fuit it changes the structure of the cells, so when it defrosts it is soggy and slimy.

I would just give it fresh tbh. Buy small portions from a market or greengrocer if you can.

Just stick to fruit that's multi use like berries. That you can chuck in yogurt or on cereal, blend into smoothies, etc

Something like a mango also you can purée whatbyoundontbusebandbusenas an ice cream sauce or on yogurt.

Banana you can sip in chocolate and freeze on a stick, maybe slice the other half of the apple into a pork and apple stew

Genius! Frozen bananas on a stick?! I've honestly never heard of that..love it.

I'm back in work now, and calling into the grocers is difficult. Will try and make regular visits on my part time days off for odd pieces here and there. I also like the ready prepared ones - ultimate easiest!

Smoothies?

Or compot/jam/ get a tub of natural yogurt and a load of frozen berries chuck in blender for cheats frozen yogurt. Drizzle with maple syrup

I also stick frozen fruit in porridge. It melts and cools the porridge!

Bags of bought frozen raspberries /blueberries will be fine won't they? they won't go to mush once defrosted? loving the porridge idea!
