just to update on this situation. I have not sued the school. however I can;t get the help I need with my son. He has been seen by the local authority sensory team who have put many suggestions forward to the secondary school he now attends. Unfortunately this has not been put into practice. We have bought him a kindle and a touch screen laptop to try and help him. His attendance at school last year was 47%, as he gets such bad eye strain. His laptop has recently broken and Asus say there are not going to repair it. We cold not afford to buy it in the first place. I feel like I'm failing him all the way. To all the people out there who did ot support me in claiming against the school and didnt hold back on there comments, I really hope your not ever i this situation were you have an intelligent son with a lovely personality and a talented musician and see him continiously hitting a brick wall. Yes I know life can be unfair, but it can also be very frustrating when you can't find anyone to help you. All the money in theworld will not sort this out for him. But I have spend the past year trying to sort it for him without success. I have written think after comments nasty comments about another mum talking about suing the school. I am the secretary of the pta i the school this happened it so I think I am very loyal to this school. Maybe we should not put points like this over on this site if we do not want nasty comments back, but sometimes we do it because we really don't know what to do or were to go. Sometimes we should spare a thought for peoples feelings before we make cruel comments. With that I rest my case. Many thanks to everyone who gave me knid and helpful advice. I know it takes all sorts and we are all entitled to our opinions. Please dont bother to reply to this I don't think I can handle any nasty comments

I'm very sorry to hear about your poor sons experience :(

I think they should be making reasonable adjustments as advised and also proving a laptop/tablet at the bare minimum.

I dont know the back story but if your finances are stretched, you son needs extra resources and the school have been negligent (and not making adjustments for him ffs!!) I would be tempted to get some compensation from the school.

You are doing it for your son, not for a new pair of shoes.

Their attitude is terrible. They should be insured against negligence anyway so the payment won't be paid directly by them.

How long ago did this happen? How long have you been struggling?

I remember your original post.
I'm so sorry for you and your son, and what he's going through. Is there any hope of things getting back to normal?

I agree with YouAre. The school was negligent, this is not about suing out of spite or malice. Your son is left with additional needs which require money to help him.

Good luck to you both, hope things improve.

I didn't read your original thread, OP, but claiming against the school in this case would be acceptable.
They will have insurance for accidents, and that is what this is.
You don't have to accuse them of negligence or anything, simply claim for compensation for your son being left with a disability.

Have you taken advice in RL, OP? I would suggest you go to the Citizen's Advice Bureau, or to a local solicitor for an initial chat. They usually don't charge to talk over your situation, and will let you know if they think they can help you, and how much it is likely to cost.

Also, if your son is really struggling, and needs equipment, have you looked into claiming DLA (Disability Living Allowance) for him? That could help with the extra expenses.

X-post with SMB. I didn't know if the school had been negligent or not, hence the comment I put in my post. I realise it looks as though I'm disagreeing with you, SMB, but I'm not! Grin
