It is better than some of the other kids channels though - definitely! DS1 has learned quite a lot from some of the programmes. I let mine watch it for half an hour in the morning and also while I get their tea ready - when you have an almost 3 year old and an 18 month old it can be very useful when you need to do something without being disturbed!

I like CBeebies in general and there are some great shows - Storymakers, Roly Mo and Charlie and Lola I love. But there is a lot of rubbish too and I hate the way some of it is soooooo sexist! Andy Pandy is just outrageous - what are they thinking? It's all about Andy Pandy doing manly stuff, Teddy F8ing everything over and Looby Lou cooking, baking and putting plasters on people - heave! And I recently saw a little story the presenters acted out involving a female one (the new one with dark hair) cooking a big feast for Justin, and him stealing and eating it before it was ready, but it was all fine in the end. Really irritates me the way some programmes go out of their way to think through these things and avoid stereotypes, then others unthinkingly undo the good work.

I'm really tragic, I like Cbeebies. I love LazyTown, Charlie & Lola, 64 Zoo Lane and all sorts of other stuff too. Occasionally, there are programmes that make me grit my teeth (like Boogie Beebies) but most of the time I think it is lovely & will be really sad when my two won't watch it anymore!

have to agree SL. and then theres Lunar Jim and Underground Ernie et al. Why couldnt one of them be a female lead for a change? BLUE COW rocks tho. They should give her her own show!!!!!!

I agree about blue cow! It is sooo strange but funny!

But don't forget: Aunty Mabel, Pinky Dinky Doo & Emily Elizabeth!!!! (Only joking really - had never thought how many male leads there are in CBeebies progs up till now!)

Oh yes Blue Cow is the best! I adore her but strangely DS seems unmoved. I just love the bits where the other cows say "She's off again!" and "Cows don't go into space!" or whatever. I sit there glued to it and DS wanders off and plays with his bricks. He likes the ones with big live action creatures - Fimbles and Roly Mo.

I don't mind male leads per se, it is the infuriating division of labour that gets me, when female characters do all the cooking and male ones do all the drilling and going out to work. Grrr.

My DD 3.4 is totally obsessed with Lazy Town and has been for nearly a year. She IS sporticus and I am stephanie, anyone she doesnt like that day is always robbie rotten, it was quite funny to start with but now it completely does my head in.
Dh & I went away for a few days last weekend, obviously I missed her loads, but it was bliss not hearing anything about Lazytown for 3 whole days!!!

I have a friend who looks and sound just like Robbie Rotten! (He's Estonian)

I have to say one thing in favour for Lazytown is the sports candy (healthy food message) It really spurs on my dd to eat loads of fruit, and the message that too many sweets are bad. We never have tantrums over not buying her sweets. She knows too many are bad for you and bad for your teeth etc. And the toothbrushing song is an absolute godsend when trying to get a tired 3 year old to brush her teeth at night!!!

I have to say one thing in favour of Lazytown: Sporticus!!! Feel quite weak when he does his press-ups. (yes, I know he is probably gay & short & vain in real life!!!!) Still brightens up my Cbeebie watching

Blue Cow is excellent. When he gets on the bus ds does a manic dance to the music! Agree on the guilt factor though, Pruni...

A saviour for parents!!! I have it on all the time and this is me who would never have her little cherubs being blighted by watching telly all day. I don't mind it as there are no adverts and it all seems very gentle and nice.

thought I was the only one in the world with a secret crush on Sporticus. Feel much better now

Hey Snowleapord dont forget Big Cook Little Cook. Men doing the cooking. Were real fans of Cbeebies in our house. My ds especialy like Boogie Beebies and often sings a little ditty from it during the day. He realy love Doodle Doo too. Not so keen on Fimbles and his absolute fave is Bob The Builder and Underground Ernie(maybe thats because dh drives on London Underground. Blue Cow is god but the bit where she goes round and round on the bus makes mr feel a bit queasy!
