Mine don't get any Shock. The 20 & 18 year olds have their own jobs so spend their own money- and I don't ask them for Keep.

The other 2 (16 and 14) don't get money but we end up buying stuff for them. We were thinking about starting to give them money but we have quite a tight budget and on a month when we are a bit short we don't want to be committed to handing over money to them.

From talking to friends they shell out a lot more than I would consider reasonable.

Ah - that's a bit old. My oldest is six and we wanted to start giving her pocket money but weren't sure how much was the norm.

My older 3 (10, 12 and 14) get 10p for every pasta shape they collect in their jars. They end up with between £1.00 - £2.00 each week each. They get a pasta piece for every completed chore plus extras for anything over and above what I would expect as normal.

DS1 (8) gets 90p per week, ds2 (7) gets 80p.
They are allowed to spend max 20p on sweets, but very rarely do so.
"Hard cash" doesn't change hands, we just write it all in a book, and they usually save up for months at a time for something specific - often lego, sometimes a book, or a game.

DS1 (14) and DS2 (12.5) get £5 each a week. DD (nearly 4) doesn;t get pocket money yet.

Don't give pocket money here either. However, for ds1 we did let him have his child benefit when he went to college and are thinking of doing the same for ds2. The children use/save their birthday money and we do end up buying them things if we can afford it.

£1 a week for my 6 year old - to manage bad behaviour, if she is naughty she gets a warning then a strike against pocket money if she carries on.

3 strikes = no pocket money.

It has worked a dream. She used to spend it immediately but now saves up for things.
