hello

ds has just turned three, he never used to be a whiny boy at all but for the last three-four weeks has been whining all the time. initially it was a possible ear infection but it seems to be ok now but the whining has stayed. its really wearing me down, especially as i have nearly 1yo too. how do you cope?

thanks!

I'm afraid it doesn't get better as they get older. My six yr old is whiney as hell.

I grit my teeth get on with it and on a bad day I treat myself to a glass of wine. Never excessively however. Just one or two small ones. :)

You're not alone! My two whine (3 and 5) and it's torture. I try not to respond at all to them when they do it. I say that I'm sorry, but I don't understand what they're saying when they speak like that. They generally get the message after a few minutes and when they do speak normally I make sure I listen to them attentively.

It hasn't stopped the whining completely, but it does shorten the duration a bit!

Yep I'd agree with that. Zero tolerance for 'baby talk/whining' here. I can't stand it. Dd speaks very well and clearly so to hear her whine sets my teeth on edge. I do the same, won't listen until she speaks properly.

i do ignore him when he gets whiny. but some days just hearing it it gets a bit too much.

before, when he got like this too much, it was a signal to me that we needed to get out of the house, and id make an extra effort for a couple of days to spend more time outdoors (even though we do get out of the house most days anyway). but in the last month, even that hasn't worked :(

but...we spent 4 hours gardening today taking advantage of the good weather, and its done him some good, no whining (til we got inside).

My 3 year old dd is going through this stage at the minute. She will whine and talk like a baby while fake crying. I just say I don't want to listen while u speak and act like that. She always stops and talks normally, and then I will listen. (only for her to do it again five mins later!) Im hoping it just a phase

Oh yes! I've got this in duplicate - a just turned three year old and a 'grown up' 19 month old who so everything in tandem. If they are not fighting, wingey or screaming they are up to mischief Angry
