penis or willy ???? what would you say ???

ds is 2.6 and we have always called his penis his willy but I am unsure what to call the girl parts

he calls mine my bum when I am on the toilet and I side step the comment but I always want to tell my child the truth and keep him informed at any age as I felt my parents always said 'I will tell u when you are older' and I learnt everything I needed from , school, friends or google .

But I cant bring myself to hear a 2 yr old saying the word vagina !! and don't really know of another (appropriate) word that makes sense (and isn't a complete joke ).

what do other people call these things ?

Proper words. Worst case scenario he witnesses a female friend get molested 'ZZZ touched X's bump and she cried'

It's vulva btw, vagina is the inside bit.

There's been a few threads about this recently. If you have a wee search it should bring up lots of weird and not so wonderful suggestions Grin

Willy for ds. Dd is 17 months and showing Interest in her fanjo but I can't bring myself to use that word. Or any! I'll go with girl bits and vulva as Joyful says I think!

thank you for the insight.... and an example that my parents taught me nothing about this sort of thing I didn't even know it was a vulva.

I defiantly don't want my children to grow up not knowing whats going on in there own bodies or have know one to talk to about the private or embarrassing stuff ...

have explained the correct terms and given him a choice of willy, penis vulva or girl bits as he was asking about my front bum again as I had a shower and asked me where my will was ... Smile

Winkles for boys twinkles for girls.
As I call toes piggies, eyes peepers and teeth pegs I don't see the harm in naming other body parts.

vulva is such a great word, hate that 'front bottom' thing....couldnt believe it when my friend taught taht to her girls and told me that 'fanny' (as we used) was 'disgusting'.....

oh no I would die if my 2 year old said fanny ... I love willys and wilmas that is really funny .
ds seemed to just named mine my bum on his own I think just because there is a lack of a willy he just assumed I am all bum.Grin

nothing against funny nicknames but I feel at this age he would get confused with all the different names and I want them always to know the correct terminology also

Also I heard a horror story about a little girl who's uncle called it her pocket and she then told mummy that uncle had put his hand in her pocket and the mum didn't know what this meant this story has terrified me I really want him to be using a word that we will all know what he means by it . ........ just encase

Actually, 'private parts' seems to cover everything.

Noooo to "fanny"!!! It was considered a swear word when I was growing up, would hate to hear a child using it! :-o

There's a definite lexical gap.

Children need to know the proper name, but just like tummy, bum etc, and of course willy, also need a day-to-day term. But there isn't one.

My mum used the word fairy!

DottyboutDots · 07/05/2013 06:24

We do willy and fanny. They seem to have a balance in their sound. They also know the proper words and, I have to say i don't know any adult women who refer to their vulva, though that is anatomically correct. My girlfriends say vage or fanny.

Lots of confusion as women seem to feel embarrassed to talk about it.
