DS2 will be one in less than 2 weeks and I have no idea what to buy him, I dont want to waste money for the sake of buying something as its his birthday, I want a toy that will have lots of use.

So what is your DC's favorite toy?

(He has a push/ride along)

My DS's toy for his 1st birthday was a football.

Should say "favourite" - by far. He even slept with it in his cot smile

Was going to say a ride-on.

My 16mo pretty much exclusively plays with rugby/footballs or his Toot-Toot cars and garage.

Wooden railway? ELC have the starter kit for the Thomas one for £17.50, half price, in their sale. You can ask family to buy trains and other bits for it.

My DD's favourite toy for her first birthday was her Leapfrog My Pal Violet (They also do My Pal Scout which is green as opposed to the violet of Violet).

She plays with it every single day - she even played with it on Christmas Day when she got new things.

You plug it into the computer with a USB cable and put in your child's name, which it then uses in games and songs, you can also change the songs and games via the cable to keep the child's interest.

All for the princely bloody bargainous sum of £15.

My 14mo loves his shape-sorting cookie jar, cars (any sort), a food pot that sings, stacking cups and is just starting to show interest in building blocks.

Should add he was given all of these around his first birthday and these have been his stand out favourites (along with his push along walker).

Thomas wooden railway. My DS plays with his every day from the age of 1 to now almost 3. We've got a lot more engines now though!

My ds had a Noah's ark from hamleys as a gift. All the animals slot in and make the right noises, it has a keyboard on the top, it plays tunes etc. no idea how much it was but he played with it everyday and now I've got it out for dd who is 9 months and she plays with it too! It is the most played toy in the house I think. I've seen similar in John Lewis but if you can afford it I would go for the original..
