hiya, no not breastfeeding. cot with side down sounds like a good idea. was thinking about doing something like that. thank you.

i think my friend suggested giving him some water to drink incase he is waking due to thirst or to just see if that helps to get him back off to sleep without the need of taking him into my bed.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear you didn't get on well with the pick up put down technique.
I'm afraid I don't really have any other helpful suggestions! How about a cot with a dropped side pushed up next to your bed? Then DS feels like he is in bed with you as you are right next to him, but you and DH actually have the bed to yourselves?

I agree though that your DS will probably want to be in your bed less as he gets older, he's still only tiny now really. Are you breast feeding?

Why did your friend suggest bottled water? Are you feeding him when he gets in with you?

Both of mine were night wakers until they were about 15/16 months. Their own room helped but if you refuse to let him in your bed, he will eventually, (hopefully after a few nights) stop waking.

Mine had milk to settle them when they woke. I cut down the milk gradually then stopped it completely. A few bad nights of tears but we got there in the end.

Agree with other poster though about it only being a problem if you think it's a problem. Not if someone else thinks its a problem. He won't be wanting to get into your bed at 15 so maybe enjoy the snuggles?

Personally I've never liked them in our bed unless they're ill, but my bf put two of hers in with we until they were 3. I think that's what put me off grin

thank you for your comment.
i feel its a problem because i want him to sleep in his own bed and am worried he may do this for years to come. There is no option for him to sleep in another room on his own at the moment due to us not having our own place at the moment.
have heard of the pick up put down routine....have tried...its exhausting!!

Anyway, thank you so much for your advice. smile

Is there an option to put him in his own room?
Do you feel that him coming into bed with you is a problem, or is it just that you feel you ought to think it is a problem?

I know of a Pick Up Put Down technique where you lift your DS when he cries, cuddle him until he stops, then put him back down. Repeat if/when he wakes and cries again. I haven't needed to use this method consistently so I can't advise much on it, but I remember reading about it. If you google for ideas you will find loads more suggestions, and you will also get loads of help by browsing on here.
Good luck.

hi everyone.

my ds who turns 1 next week, wakes every night to come into bed with me. We currently sleep in the same room. shud i try something different with him. i think he has got used to me taking him into my bed and now expects it every night. A friend of mine suggested giving him a bottle of water when he wakes instead. Anyone have any other advice or suggestions?
