had really hoped to avoid ipad usage with DC2 until she's a bit older but have to face facts I live on the other side of the world and have 4 transatlantic trips coming up (3 of which on my own with aforementioned DD and her brother who's 4) and there's only a finite number of times I can read "Peek-a-Who?" to her in 11hours.
So - any ideas for ipad entertainment for a 1yo? (jesus that sounds ridiculous!)
One???????
Oh my. An Ipad? One? Are you talking in dog years?
My 1yo likes...
My breasts
Posting things he shouldn't post into things he shouldn't post them into
The toaster
Screwdrivers
The hoover
Screeching
Climbing
Winding the bastard bobbin
Eating things he shouldn't eat
Torturing the cat
Putting important documents and/or my purse in the bin
Turning on taps
Putting things into the bath after turning on the taps
Pressing people's noses
I reckon there must be something on that list you can use on a flight. Stealing glasses from strangers' faces is also fun. This you can definitely do on a flight.
Get one of those Fisher Price iPad toy covers and the related apps?
My 1yo broke my iPad <sobs>.
Darts.
You hang ipad on wall, give baby some darts.
Sorted.
I have baby touch & hear lite on my I-phone, it would work on an I-pad too. It's pictures (both photos & cartoons) of animals which when you touch them say the animals name and then makes the appropriate noise - sort of like interactive flash cards. My 14m DS loves it.
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa I know I know I know I know! but I'M FLYING ON MY OWN WITH THEM BOTH!! For eleven hours
Anything that might keep her quiet for 5mins on rotation with the various toys/food/random plastic tat/books/her brother/food/pulling on my skin and gouging my face/walking up and down the aisle 20,000 times/food
Good for you ShowofHands...my 1yo rejected my breasts and I'm pretty sure you can't take toasters, hoovers, cats, letterboxes, screwdrivers and taps on planes.
Aww, I was joking around to cheer you up. I have never even touched an IPad. I think you're a hero for going on a plane at all, let alone with 2 small people.
Valium for the flight? For you of course. Or wine?
You wont be able to bring darts on a flight. Sorry.
Ok in the night garden app
Various free stories apps dd really likes the toy story one
Leapfrog have some free ones
Flash cards
Matching pairs games
There's loads of freebies
and good luck!
my paeditrician already said to just dose her up with benadryl...and to do a "practise" dose a week before because apparently it just sends some kids hyper (yes, I live America
)
At least the 4yr old is easy...the ipad technically belongs to him anyway (godfather thought it was a good present for a 2yo, it is now the family ipad) so this thread might all be in vain because he probably won't share it with DD anyway
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
thanks cheese
we have the toy story on already so will see if that floats her boat then download more...maybe I'm underestimating her but I thought story apps might be a bit boring....very scary how she sees anything with a screen and tries to "move" the screen with one finger already though
shit I'm going to need silent apps as well aren't I?! to avoid all those nasty stares from childless people on the flight.
Oh just remembered that random fireworks one, that'll be good won't it???
Baby touch Happy Babies was a hit with my dd & saved our bacon on a few long car journeys. If you put it on movie mode (I think) it just plays & they can watch without having to touch the screen to make the app do things. Would also suggest you introduce it before you fly so she's familiar with it, dd seemed to find it oddly comforting and was happy to watch it on a loop for a bit!
What about that bubblewrap popping app? It might help with your blood pressure levels too. Can you get colour splash on iPads? I've got it on my android phone and it keeps my 2 yr old entertained for 30secs whilst he wipes his fingers all over the screen colouring in an existing photo on my phone that the app has turned black and white. God, that's a lot of words in one breath. It worked in church last week and sometimes that can feel like eleven hours...
I flew with my 1 year old and put Pingu on my iPhone - that kept him quiet for 10 minutes not sure about 11 hours though.
My daughter is 2 next week but has been playing on the i pad since last xmas and yes it is a life saver for long journeys and plane journeys! she has old mcdonald app, it sings the songs and has various games puzzles with it. other good ones are stories such as jack and the bean stalk, cinderella, theres lots of different ones. if you just type into app store toddler games/puzzles lots of things come up. sorry i cant remember all the names, i know theres a few animal puzzles which she loves, oh and wheels on the bus is great, it sings the song and has games. hope this kind of helps
Apparently there is a cover for the ipad called the Military cover (I think).
It was recommended to me by another mum with kids with ASD.
They use it in war zones so even my DC shouldn't be able to destroy it (doubtful)
Get some kid size earphones - I brought some on amazon before we flew to America this year and dd was about 20mo then. I downloaded lots of night garden, Mickey Mouse club house and ice age films and I have one of those cases where you can stand the iPad up.
The only annoying thing is trying to get them to stop touching the screen and turning the film off! But it worked for 10 minutes here and there mixed with other entertainment/distraction type toys/food.
You just gotta do what you gotta do on a longhaul flight with the little ones! I think between 1 and 2yo is the worst age for them too, so good luck
Nosy crow do great toddler apps. Beard of bees is free and my 3 dcs play nicely together on it rather than fighting over it.
My nearly two year old also loves the monkey preschool lunchbox app which is cheap she can do it all apart from the matching pairs which warrants either "Mummy do it" or she switches back to the main menu and back which restarts the game.
We have also loaded our iPad with night garden and humph episodes from our DVD collection for the dcs.
We do long journeys and hospital waiting alot.
My 1 year-old loves the iPad
. He likes toddler flashcards and shapes (you burst balloons and shapes burst out). The youtube app is good for songs too. Oh and he really likes flicking through photos.
A one year old does not need a fecking iPad.
I second monkey preschool lunchbox. My nearly 2 year old loves it and the matching pairs is the only bit that she can't really do too!
If you can download some gigglebellies videos from you tube/the plane has wifi that's good for 4 or so mins at a time!
Also download 'ginger' the cat, it's free and the mini games are simple enough for a 1 year old to do! It's cute too! (My DH nephew loves it).
Download a series of Timmy Time and get some earphones.
Phone4kids has a variety of games on it and can be used on an iPad as well as a phone.
