Breakfast with a 2.5y/o

Would appreciate a bit of perspective.

Would you consider a banana and a yogurt a suitable breakfast for a 2.5 year old?

THis is DD1's breakfast of choice. She has absolutely no interest in a cereal or toast breakfast and has to be badgered into eating it if it is offered but she will snaffle a banana and hoover a yogurt if they are offered.

I just dont feel like they are enough for a growing child to have for breakfast.

Does she have a snack between that and lunch? Is she maybe not hungry first thing so offer her something a bit later.

I can't actually remember what my 2.5 year old ate (he's 3.5 now) but he tends to graze all morning when he's home, rather than sit and eat a proper meal.

I personally think that's fine - at least she's having something and its healthy.

I think that's quite a good breakfast. Maybe put the yoghurt in a bowl and see if she wants to sprinkle some cereal on as toppings?

Sometimes DD (2.7) will eat two Weetabix and a slice of toast with scrambled eggs, sometimes she will just about deign to eat a banana. I agree I'd prefer her to eat more at breakfast, but I gave up ages ago trying to get her to eat more than she wanted, and she seems to be growing fine etc. Falls into my "not worth having the battle" category!

Yes, it is fine, DD2 (2.10) has never been big on breakfast, she is not usually hungry until later. She often has this, proteins & calcium (yogurt), sugar slow and fast (Banana) plus vitamins. She often has cucumber and ham too, what ever she wants. Sometimes just milk, and hungry child will let you know they are hungry.
Rarely she copies her sister and have bread or corn flakes. If she does she picks at her lunch.
Did you try normal bread (i.e. not toasted, DD2 doesn't like the texture at all)?
Would yours take beans or eggs or crepes/tortillas?

My dd1 only had yoghurt and fruit for about a year from 1 ish to 2 ish. I took the view as long as she ahd something i didnt mind what it was, and she was never particularly hungry first thing. She then suddenly decided she wanted cereal again and toast around 2. I would just go with it for now, in time she will want cereal again. ( for us this coincide with dd2 turning 1 and eating big breakfast) good luck!

Banana mashed into Greek yougurt is DD2's breakfast of choice. She's 22m. Sometimes we go mad and add some blueberries or raspberries too Grin. She's not fussed on 'traditional' breakfast foods like cereal or toast and will only nibble the tiniest amount if we try and give her something different. I figure if she's happy eating it then I'll carry on.

sorry, didnt mean to abandon the thread. posted via the new android app and couldnt work out how to reply to a post!

Yes, she will have a snack mid morning and will usually eat up all her lunch. i am trying very hard not to let food become a battle ground between us but also make sure she actually gets enough food into her.

I like the idea of putting the yougurt into a bowl and seeing if i can get her to put some cereals on it as a topping. Will try that and see how she goes.

Thanks for the replies!

Yes that's a good breakfast - don't worry about cereal, it's not essential and usually full of sugar.
