Alameda Sat 15-Sep-12 16:52:47

Ma 'italianese' non è italiano

ZZZenAgain Sat 15-Sep-12 16:53:12

d'accordo.

SuoceraBlues Sat 15-Sep-12 16:56:58

I spell really abdly in English too. I do not discriminate.

Alameda Sat 15-Sep-12 16:57:03

Bene. Oggi parliamo umm quello what hai fatto?

SuoceraBlues Sat 15-Sep-12 17:09:34

Ho sat on my culo chiacchierando su Mumsnets tanto.

Mia marito ha lamentato a lungo "why you want argue wid da peoples you not da know on da hinternets? all da fuckings giorno?"

Alameda Tue 18-Sep-12 17:28:09

comportamento lodevole suocera - (think you are saying you have been good and doing housework?) sono cattivo!

SuoceraBlues Tue 18-Sep-12 20:05:35

Giusto!

Aia!

GoldandOrangeAnnunziata Tue 18-Sep-12 20:49:45

Bonasira!

Povero gatti, Suocera! Speriamo ch'idda vieni meglio. T'amu gatti, ma dh l'odio, and won't let me get one.

SuoceraBlues Wed 19-Sep-12 08:26:44

Ahhh Gold waggle tentazione a lui

La piccola sta veremente bene questa mattina. Ha mangiato mia dita piedi con gusto. AIA!

Addesso deve solo crescere ....con fretta.

Pioggia oggi, ouffa!

Forse le medicine is working grin

Allora ragazze, oggi cos'è in programma per voi ?

gottasmile Wed 19-Sep-12 11:48:12

ma veramente lei calls you that??!!

SuoceraBlues Wed 19-Sep-12 11:52:40

Oh si. Bipolare I più Alziemerer's makes for conversazione interessante grin

Ognitanto mi butto giù ma tipicamente I don't really give a fuck, keep calma and carry on, with earplugs if needed.

GoldandOrangeAnnunziata Wed 19-Sep-12 15:13:54

Squueeeee! Molto carina, bedda, bedda! I'm envy... but not of your suocera, sei un angelo!!

Alameda Thu 20-Sep-12 09:33:44

SuoceraBlues Thu 20-Sep-12 11:57:32

Qua è caldo! Ma troppo umido per dry the mountain of clothes I have washed.

gottasmile Thu 20-Sep-12 12:15:23

sono d'accordo - mio marito (siciliano!) cucina!!! Mia suocera must think I'm less of a donna!!!

GoldandOrangeAnnunziata Thu 20-Sep-12 15:01:26

Ciao! Pioggia, pioggia, pioggia, meehhhhh. Ma caldo- em, estate. La bedda estate, spaggia, granita, gelato...

Ultras? Mi figghiu?! No, su picciuottu bonu!! wink They didn't win though, but DH thought they would get gubbed so! They had a great time, said the atmosphere was amazing.

Suocera, essiri molto difficile! A lot of other people wouldn't do it at all.

SuoceraBlues Thu 20-Sep-12 15:20:15

A lot of other people hanno vecchietti chi non get booted out of case di riposo dopo 3 mese.

<soffia desperata>

Cos'è per cena questa sera ?

Qua o pastasciutta (ti voglio bene Sig.

GoldandOrangeAnnunziata Thu 20-Sep-12 15:27:07

She was booted out shock [laugh] Madre mia... wine (excuse the pun)

Cena dumani, lasagne.

GoldandOrangeAnnunziata Thu 20-Sep-12 15:27:26

Scusa, grin

SuoceraBlues Thu 20-Sep-12 15:49:25

<cunning plan for one sided argument>

Quanti vecchietti get expelled from old people's homes for extensive and constant bad behavoir ?

NESSUNO!

Tranne mia suocera grin

Ohhh lasagne, non sono capace io, mia lasagne è più cheese, tomato and large bits of pasta zuppo e meno "lasagna - come si deve".

ElephantsCanCanCan Thu 20-Sep-12 15:52:01

Alameda - Sto facendo Andante.

GoldandOrangeAnnunziata Thu 20-Sep-12 15:58:03

È una cosa spassosissima, oh dio mio! Matri mia would probably make a good go of it!

No beef in yours? I have beef, sausage, spinach and carrot too. And my (well, nonna's) secret was to start with ricotta at the bottom.

Alameda Thu 20-Sep-12 16:04:18

suocera situation sounds orribile e non so what is for cena, sono un po' 'triste perché

Alameda Thu 20-Sep-12 16:05:51

GoldandOrangeAnnunziata Thu 20-Sep-12 16:10:45

Alameda Thu 20-Sep-12 16:36:23

I would think 'complimenti to ME for my amazing skills' if I got told off for progressing to actual Italian Franca - did you actually though?

Alameda Thu 20-Sep-12 16:37:41

ieri ieri ieri

do you have j in sicilianu? Not met one in Italian yet

Alameda Thu 20-Sep-12 16:45:17

Alameda, hai comprato casa in Sicilia???
Io ci sono stata quest'estate.

not, not really told off smile

just a bit of a simpatica tirata d'orecchi grin.

GoldandOrangeAnnunziata Thu 20-Sep-12 20:33:30

Ciao Franca! Grazzi mille!

Alameda Thu 20-Sep-12 20:57:37

bear with me sono molto stanca and ho fame etc (just got in) ma non ancora, not sure voglio comprare but might noleggio (please let that be a word?) una casa invece - addio/adro (?) ottobre mezze term (Catania Siracusa)

the idea won't go away but it is a sort of longer term plan, five years or so

my friend showed me some interesting but remote places in Liguria and I know that would make much more sense and I do love it but it would be a big compromise

Alameda Thu 20-Sep-12 21:00:29

I would buy a villa in/near lerici if I was a squillionaire though and just go to Sicily on holiday, or other way around?

Alameda Thu 20-Sep-12 21:05:20

can't even say it though

LEHHHH reechee not lehREEchi

Ciao Annunziata!

Oh Lerici is wonderful, but yes, you need to be a squillionaire. Liguria is beautiful, but crowded and expensive. However, the idea of a house in the entroterra always fascinates me.

I would try and rent in Sicily, which imho remains one of the most fascinating parts of the world, despite its problems. Have you been to Modica?

Alameda Fri 21-Sep-12 11:03:11

Ages ago I struck up a correspondence with someone who impulsively moved to modica, from Australia! Should track her down and see if she would like to meet up, but nobody ever says 'don't do it it's a nightmare' even if you can get them talking about the difficulties they either romanticise it all or I just hear what I want to hear confused

So I haven't been but it's on my quite long list. Do you like it there? Where would you most like to live?

lemmingcurd Fri 21-Sep-12 11:19:46

greetings a tutti, just had to ficcare il naso in this bellissimo thread, it's extremely divertente.

Cose interessanti that have happened in my collo del bosco recently: assolutamente niente, come al solito nelle marche but we live in eternal hope. Oh mi sono dimenticata domani è la festa del patrono quindi le strade in città saranno bloccate e non si potrà andare da nessuna parte for three days but you can if you wish buy loads of useless tat and marvel at the total disregard for animal welfare on the pet stall.

Buona giornata everybody

Alameda Fri 21-Sep-12 13:45:43

ciao lemming! Dove you at?

Alameda, I am from Milan, Which I must say I like quite a lot, but possibly because most of my friends live here.

We lived in Devon for 8 yrs, and I wouldn't mind to live in London.

But, I would also like to spend more time in Sicily, even if I know it is not an easy place, you have to love it very much.

scampadoodle Fri 21-Sep-12 19:25:17

Some people say Sicilian is a completely different language, it can be quite different.

GoldandOrangeAnnunziata Sun 23-Sep-12 18:54:34

Ciao a tutti, comu stai?

Alameda Sun 23-Sep-12 22:41:10

ciao

infelice, stanca, freddo - piove and dark all giorno sad perché? come posso (faccio?) cheer up?

And ho dimenticato to guardare montalbano and think it was one of the books I liked too where he rents a villa for livia's friends for August when it is too hot for anyone to do any murders and she gets cross when she finds out they shagged while he knew there was a dead body in a hidden apartment underground which looks like it could be the work of a German perv (later murdered by his own dad who commits suicide) but is actually a homegrown weirdo with a flashy car and lots of mafia dealings and no horrible food that I can remember

Alameda Mon 24-Sep-12 15:38:17

Alameda Mon 24-Sep-12 15:46:46

Alameda Mon 24-Sep-12 16:06:42

He's short and bald and bandy so I don't get it either, he feels better looking in the books. They say bedda or beddu instead of bella I think?

Yes that wasn't very discreet of me was it, sorry! Counting the days to half term then will need some other escapism as will be ages before anymore trips anywhere. Povero me.

Alameda Mon 24-Sep-12 16:07:22

Dio cane! Am not even looking!

AnyoneForBeer Mon 24-Sep-12 16:11:41

TheDoctrineOfSnatch Mon 24-Sep-12 16:13:54

GoldandOrangeAnnunziata Mon 24-Sep-12 16:14:47

Ciao anyone!

GoldandOrangeAnnunziata Mon 24-Sep-12 16:23:02

Ahh my last post is wrong. Vedo l'ora, extra non. Scusatimi.

Pigro- lazy. We are both married to lazy bastards!

TheDoctrineOfSnatch Mon 24-Sep-12 16:25:33

Grazie Annunziata!

GoldandOrangeAnnunziata Mon 24-Sep-12 16:28:36

Pregu smile

Non vedo l'ora= I am looking forward to

I love Nigella, but I also like Jamie, he is a good guy. I like Nigel Slater, can't stand Gordon Ramsay.
ANd I am loving the British Bake off, is it on tonight, or is it tuesday?

GoldandOrangeAnnunziata Mon 24-Sep-12 16:32:53

Ciao franca! I should trust my first thoughts then, grazzi!!

GoldandOrangeAnnunziata Mon 24-Sep-12 16:35:26

gottasmile Mon 24-Sep-12 16:40:10

Ciao tutti! Mio marito e' siciliano! Sicilia e' molto interessante, but non mi piace vivere there!

gottasmile Mon 24-Sep-12 16:42:17

GoldandOrangeAnnunziata Mon 24-Sep-12 18:37:30

Ciao gottasmile! Non mi piace vivere chi'anche. Mamma e dal provincia d'Agrigento. (Is that right? Oh well!) Non so about Gino, mi dispiace.

Alameda Mon 24-Sep-12 20:11:33

I met Gino once, but didn't know he was famous. I like his recipes.

My 13 yo doesn't want to come to Siracusa for half term, she gets home/pony sick sad

gottasmile Mon 24-Sep-12 20:18:30

Siracusa e' fantastico! Il teatro....amazing! Si mangia bene anche!

gottasmile Mon 24-Sep-12 20:58:46

Gino sembra simpatico, you're fortunata!

gottasmile Mon 24-Sep-12 21:04:55

Gold, Agrigento ha those amazing Greek ruins.... l'hai visti?

Sandydunes Mon 24-Sep-12 21:23:29

stubbornstains Mon 24-Sep-12 21:44:18

Ciao tutte!

(Mio fourcentesimeworth...)

GoldandOrangeAnnunziata Mon 24-Sep-12 21:59:03

Ciao a tutti, benvinutu!

Siracusa e bedda! I'm envy

Si, certo, gottasmile! When the blossom comes in, it's so beautiful, it's unbelievable. And at night it feels so special, I always think there's such a strange feeling there. And always so hot!

Alameda Mon 24-Sep-12 22:14:06

If I have to go solo I could go on a montalbano trail to agrigento!

Alameda Mon 24-Sep-12 22:16:00

(would that be a bit sad?)

Alameda Tue 25-Sep-12 08:12:05

Si! Vorrei! You can explain my knee on the way! Mio ginocchio ma cosa? ginnochia - perché?

Si, we say:
1 ginocchio
2 ginocchia.
It's irregular plurals (like foot and feet)
We also say:
1 braccio
2 braccia

Alameda Tue 25-Sep-12 08:42:11

ah I SEE thankyou and my knees are still boys? Mie ginocchia? Or miei?

AnyoneForBeer Tue 25-Sep-12 10:11:01

buon morning to everyone.

I can cazzagare at work, but don't get time to "play" on computer at home hence, sono qua soltanto di giorno!!!!!

Don't do chiefs!!!! Neither Jamie or Gino. Still cook my mums stew (being irish and all that) Cottage pie and steak and chips!!!! My house is not an Italian food house. Have run out of bisto so mum mym's has to sent me some..........won't survive until Christmas without Bisto!!!

Dh (Bloody Italian driver) avuto un incidente stadale ieri!!!! Colpa sua. He crashed into the rail comming off the motorway. Abbiamo litigato di brutto ieri sera.......Italian bloody driver!!!

Must pretend to work!!!

Alameda Tue 25-Sep-12 10:29:26

Bongiorno! Yikes! Is he ok?

Molto pleased, italiano class stasera after all (so have wriggled out of date with man hooray) MA is not beginners and probs troppo difficile per me, così confused

Alameda, it is:
il mio ginocchio (maschile)
le mie ginocchia (femminile)
weird, I know.

Oh dear Anyone, I hope your dh is ok! How scary!

LaFataTurchina Tue 25-Sep-12 12:01:07

I hope he's OK too, maybe this'll be a wake up call and he'll drive more carefully in the future?

Io adoro I calamari.

Alameda - It wouldn't be sad, mia mamma has a load of pictures from outside Montalbano's house from the last time she went to Sicilly!

Rosa Tue 25-Sep-12 12:28:37

Stanno filmando Brunetta ...Donna Leon a venezia

AnyoneForBeer Tue 25-Sep-12 12:52:37

Sta meglio di me, thankyou everyone.
No-one else was involved. he slipped and spun around to face the opposite way and "touched" (his words not mine) the rail on the slip road off the motorway. Translated that means, as usual he was going to fast, breaked and slipped!!! Non impara mai!!!! MAI. He's broken the parafango in 2. Still drivable at the moment. Will have to wait for tredicesima to pay for work. We've just forked out 600 for a new fan belt for my car!!!!

My dh's family are from Sicily.............Speak siciliun but I switch off!!! My son has a few words.....god love him Italian/English and Siciliun!!! We've only been once and I'll never go again. we spent 10 there and made it to a beach once (August so fecking hot and fab for going to the beach). Had to visit all the parente!!!! NEVER AGAIN and my dh agrees!!

Alameda Tue 25-Sep-12 13:58:58

Grazie Franca, I can finally speak my knee!

and grazie LaFata, if my daughter decides not to come I can indulge myself without shame (and Franca DEVE venire con me!) but otherwise she will not be impressed.

maybe your suocere will adopt me anyone? I will visitare often.

Alameda Tue 25-Sep-12 13:59:54

suoceri? suocere? Suocera e suocero = ?

suocero + suocera = suoceri

I will come Alameda. The Montalbano area is the area I know the least in Sicily, so I'd love to go.
Sto risparmiando per andare qui:
www.casatalia.it/

Alameda Tue 25-Sep-12 15:32:41

grazie a lot

oh that looks NICE! I want to do a residential language course there with you as my teacher, you're great! Also a bit too €€€good at tourist information grin

In fact, I'd love to be a travel agent, you know those specialised in off the beaten track tours in small but £££ places grin

Ti insegno volentieri, l'unico problema è che abito a Milano... non tutti like to spend too much time here grin (I like it though)

SuoceraBlues Tue 25-Sep-12 19:47:35

GoldandOrangeAnnunziata Tue 25-Sep-12 20:32:23

e mi pace parlare italiano stasera con di more advanced boys and girls, maestro says I have no difficulty keeping up. Must show her this thread!

stubbornstains Tue 25-Sep-12 21:49:41

Annunziata Wed 26-Sep-12 19:40:47

Annunziata Wed 26-Sep-12 21:39:07

Mi piace conigli smile come lu fai? (is that right- how do you cook it?)

Alameda Wed 26-Sep-12 21:48:23

in Italia ho always paura di mangiare any carne in case e cavalli or a bit of squid

Annunziata Wed 26-Sep-12 21:52:23

Si, certo! It's just like a tiny cow.

lol at conigli like a tiny cow!

This time Annunziata I bought a coniglio disossato arrotolato from the butcher, so already like a piece of roast, instead of pezzi.
L'ho rosolato in padella. Poi ho aggiunto rosmarino e aglio.

Alameda, I don'0t eat cavallo too, I have to say. But I eat squid.

Annunziata Wed 26-Sep-12 21:59:23

Non me capisti c'he no piace frutti di mare!

Annunziata Wed 26-Sep-12 22:00:01

Yes, it was good, thanks!

My mum makes coniglio al limone e prezzemolo, but I don't make it as nice as hers.

Annunziata Wed 26-Sep-12 22:01:14

Mangio di tutti <southerner>

You should try with spaghetti alle vongole in a trusted restaurant (when you are by the sea), that's your safest bet.

Anche io, mangio praticamente tutto.

Qualcuno ha visto amici quest'anno? Adorava quella stronzata da 2003-2007.

Torno in Italian l'anno prossimo per living ma with children.

Alameda Wed 26-Sep-12 22:07:20

grazie, i will

was very very very disturbed in sardegna and lived on pasta olio e aglio perche SEA URCHINS

WHY

Pomme, no, non l'ho visto (non ho la tv)!

Vado a letto, buona notte.

Annunziata Wed 26-Sep-12 22:08:29

Amici? Monica e Chandler?

Bonu fortuna, dove?

Annunziata Wed 26-Sep-12 22:09:11

Sogni d'oro franca.

Oh I also like spaghetti with sea urchins! But they are a much stronger taste than vongole, you really need to be used to that kind of taste.

No, I don't think she is talking about Friends, but to an Italian talent show, called amici.

I'd love if Italian tv was able to produce anything remotely close to friends ....

Vado, ciao!!!

Alameda Wed 26-Sep-12 22:12:01

buonanotte Franca

do not have nightmares of bogamari confused

Annunziata Wed 26-Sep-12 22:14:09

Alameda Wed 26-Sep-12 22:18:39

It is a nuisance, this tu/lei thing, lets be clear!

Alameda Thu 27-Sep-12 14:36:43

ciao annunziata smile

Alameda Thu 27-Sep-12 15:10:00

allora, ho preparato mio speechio Thing per class prossimo settimana (in which you say blah blah I have been walking the dog and decorating the spare room and reading la repubblica but she did say 'make something up') so ieri I am with una persona famosa, il commissario montalbano! and c'e una problema con l'aria condizionata and e troppo caldo e how do I say 'so he took all his clothes off'? (I will mime the rest)

Annunziata Thu 27-Sep-12 15:12:51

'Alora, lui spogliati' mi penso...

Annunziata Thu 27-Sep-12 15:13:38

What are you going to mime grin

Alameda Thu 27-Sep-12 15:15:56

grazie! Ummm not sure but it will probably involve the pelvis? grin

I won't really mime, will just go for a swim in the sea and he can make me some risotto or something

Annunziata Thu 27-Sep-12 15:21:04

Haha grin

Alameda Thu 27-Sep-12 15:21:42

grin

Annunziata Thu 27-Sep-12 15:25:56

Mi piace ensalada di pulpo. E pasta bogamari, they are chopped up anyway!

Alameda Thu 27-Sep-12 15:26:02

that is truly a brilliant idea - actually have a 'friend' who looks just like him

but in my speech thing I think we will just have pasta and broccoli

Annunziata Thu 27-Sep-12 15:32:45

Con anchovi? Pasta e broccoli bunissismo.

SuoceraBlues Thu 27-Sep-12 15:54:28

Giorno e notte. <tired face>

I luff her. She luffs my son. La vita non è sempre giusta.

Alameda Thu 27-Sep-12 20:10:18

ooooooh! teeny tiny kitty! what happened to the rest of the litter?

oh she is adorable! I love black and white cats, ho tre (tutti ummmm bimbi? ragazzi?)

SuoceraBlues Thu 27-Sep-12 20:46:30

Non ci sappiamo, c'era solo lei sad

Per me sono bimbi pelosi, io ho otto (includendo Lilly) bimbi feline, quattro bimbi canine and one bastard vampire rabbit who is NOT my baby.

<makes sign of the horns at evil rabbit>

SuoceraBlues Thu 27-Sep-12 20:47:09

Who told you to fuck off !?

What did I miss ?

Annunziata Thu 27-Sep-12 20:47:57

My DH, I asked him if I could have a baby or a cat smile

<makes evil eye at evil rabbit>

Alameda Thu 27-Sep-12 21:12:35

give the rabbit to Franca, it actually sounded quite tasty once I bothered to read it properly!

Annunziata Thu 27-Sep-12 21:12:48

Okay... lei me ha detto che vaffanculo! I think. Ruins the bloody joke!

Annunziata Thu 27-Sep-12 21:13:31

Ciao alameda, comu stai?

Alameda Thu 27-Sep-12 21:18:36

bene grazie, tu? am getting molto excited about going to Sicily with or without figlia number 3 - wish could take mei (trying to remember correct articolo indeterminativo) gli ? cavalli though

Alameda Thu 27-Sep-12 21:22:04

determinativo not indeterminativo

why do they use them? and why don't they sometimes?

Alameda Thu 27-Sep-12 21:24:17

is it gli mei cavalli

i? WHY DO I CARE

Annunziata Thu 27-Sep-12 21:30:31

Bonu, bonu! Ah quannu iri avi bedda! Fai cavilli?

Annunziata Thu 27-Sep-12 21:31:06

No so c'e articolo indeterminativo in inglesi hmm

Alameda Thu 27-Sep-12 21:40:06

you do, like, this boy is A nurse but in Italian it's not there - it's just questo ragazzo è infermiera

Annunziata Thu 27-Sep-12 21:45:21

Aahh! I never did listen in class blush

Annunziata Thu 27-Sep-12 21:49:16

I think it is gli cavalli. But anyway- you have horses? (Fai cavalli? Hai cavalli?)

Alameda Thu 27-Sep-12 21:54:28

Boh. Era molto tarde!

Alameda Thu 27-Sep-12 22:10:53

Non lo so despite reading all the irregular verbs (don't think there are very many) today blush e si è troppo tardi per grammatica

marrone cavalli si chiami Barney and grigio (a volte rosa!) cavallino si chiami Joey

Alameda Thu 27-Sep-12 22:14:03

suffolk e all sole oggi smile am looking after questo bimbo, grandson, he is feeding croissants to the dog

Annunziata Fri 28-Sep-12 08:12:20

<heart melts> I want to be a nonna! But not for a few years. Mi piace Rupert grin I wonder if I need all my bambini sometimes too!

Haja airi un funerale questa mattina..

Lui/ se chiamo? Te is you, isn't? Gahh, non so.

Alameda Fri 28-Sep-12 08:43:40

I wasn't even 40 when I found out was going to become a nonna so it was a shock but now can't imagine not having him (he's a little over 18 months, maybe can sneak a pic onto my profile as honestly have never seen a more beautiful boy and everyone should have a chance to admire him!).

Lui chiama Noah, molto divertente telling Italians as they try to repeat it!

Alameda Fri 28-Sep-12 08:55:23

there, a favourite pic from the summer, he is smiling because the little girl kept kissing him - at the time he pretended to be cross but the camera doesn't lie!

Alameda Fri 28-Sep-12 09:03:39

and another one but that is probably enough, anyway I don't blame that little girl. I am ADDICTED to kissing him

(didn't realise grandchildren come with such a fierce compulsion to show everyone photos and videos of them blush)

Annunziata Fri 28-Sep-12 09:16:00

Ohh he is gorgeous! You are so lucky!

Alameda Fri 28-Sep-12 09:30:51

smile thank you! Don't encourage me!

Alameda Fri 28-Sep-12 11:03:50

Alameda il tuo nipotino é bellissimo. And yes, nonni seem to be compelled to show ANYON their grandchildren pics and films, like my mum does the whole time... and then she and my dad get upset when they haven't seen them for more than 2 days... boh!

Anche i tuoi cavalli (si dice "i cavalli") sono stupendi, my dd would like to ride, but here in Milan it is a bit of a nightmare finding a decent place.

LaFataTurchina Fri 28-Sep-12 13:55:07

Hello,

Sia la gattina e Noah sono adorabili!

I might try that with DP, kitten or baby (I can't have either though as we are too young and poor) grin

I cavilli no pero, non so perche ma I cavalli mi fanno paura.

Alameda Fri 28-Sep-12 16:00:50

thank you both!

am less enthusiastic about i cavalli when is poggia (piovre?) così

Annunziata Fri 28-Sep-12 16:28:49

Ciao a tutti!

LaFata, c'e molto tempo aviri bambini, enjoy being young!

Alameda Sat 29-Sep-12 09:21:43

oh did you really have a funeral annunziata? I misunderstood - condolences to all anyway

cosa fai oggi?

Alameda Sat 29-Sep-12 09:34:12

I have just discovered that euro news comes with italian audio option! Not that is much use to me without subtitles

Annunziata Sat 29-Sep-12 11:15:30

Ciao a tutti! Grazzi Alameda.

Oggi mia figghicedda uscira con un ragazzo! Madonna! The DSes no sunnu contenti, haha. DS1 asked me if I wanted him to go sit behind them in the cinema! Non so che lui fare on his first dates!

LaFataTurchina Sat 29-Sep-12 11:33:15

Cuanti (quanti??) anni ha tua figlia Annunziata?

I wouldn't worry, my first date with a boy (age 16) we were too shy too talk all through the movie, and all through pizza afterwards. We dated for a month, only kissed about twice and purposely sat on different sides of the classroom in most lessons.

Annunziata Sat 29-Sep-12 11:42:36

DD2 avi quattordici, lafata. Era molto vistituni, bless her. I'm dropping her off now... eeek! In bocca al lupo!

Awwwww, il primo appuntamento! Sweet!

Annunziata Sat 29-Sep-12 21:53:00

She looks like this: grin

Mi penso c'e amore! La prossimma settimane veni per cena! Dios mio!

Alameda Sun 30-Sep-12 10:32:53

Ooh what will they have, will you cook?

Che bello!!!

Annunziata Sun 30-Sep-12 13:13:05

Si, certo, c'e cenore di duminica! Mi penso ravioli e carne. Maybe gelato.

I wonder if she's mentioned her four brothers? grin

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 08:55:08

That is troppo fratelli, ho tre so I know (invece con tre sorelle). Quanti fratelli and quante sorelle ha?

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 11:38:35

PLEASE come and play with me sad

spero everyone bene anyway

Ciao, noi abbiamo trascorso un fine settimana molto rilassante. Però io oggi ho il torcicollo.

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 12:26:28

ouch, me too actually - neck/shoulder, hazard of riding slightly strong horse in my case.

Very pleased I managed that without the dictionary, except I thought noi abbiamo was 'we will have' despite revising it. Why am I so thick? sad

Don't worry about the verbs, they are difficult grin

You should see ds (10) revising them for school, taking the passato remoto for a congiuntivo and so on grin

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 13:27:03

ah it is not only me then, phew, although it is frustrating how often I 'learn' and forget, and it was the main thing to learn for class - the regular are ire ere verbs and the main irregular root verbs but is soul destroying to keep forgetting them each time!

hopefully am rounding up some spare italian students from my friends' english school to do regular language exchanges - they can enjoy my english conversation and repay me with some italian

hope your neck is better soon!

Verbs tenses etc from another language are one of those things that you acquire by actually using them all the time, imo.

English phrasal verbs for instance: they were a nightmare for me BEFORE I moved to the UK. 8 yrs in the UK have sort of helped grin

Annunziata Mon 01-Oct-12 14:44:08

Hope everyone's neck and shoulders improve soon! I really struggle with verbs too, my family have a strange tendency to use the English verbs but Italian/ Sicilian nouns.

Haju dui figgia e quattru figgiu.

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 14:45:48

8 years! But even though you could speak English fairly well before? it's a long road confused

It's shocking though how possible it is to resist learning, I smile at the memory of a friend asking 'what's focaccia?' in a cafe seven years after moving to (I still don't know if they are in Liguria or Tuscany, somewhere between) Italy. It's been 9 years now and I visited her a couple of weeks ago and she still doesn't speak any Italian, on the plus side her husband has progressed to being able to order red AND white wine by the bottle instead of getting something the size and colour (and sort of taste) of a urine sample when asking for large carafe of red wine.

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 14:46:46

I have a strange tendency to cross post with you annunziata! Ciao, va bene?

Annunziata Mon 01-Oct-12 14:47:24

Oh wait- miei fratelli? Dui sorelli e cincu fratelli.

Annunziata Mon 01-Oct-12 14:48:08

argh! Ciao! Bonu, e tu?

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 14:50:11

Do I mean come va or can I just say what I like?

I need to do an actual talk about myself tomorrow that isn't all ho tre figli, tutte femminile and un nipotino (si I am even older than I look) etc or my fantasy life with il commissario Montalbano

Well no, it didn't take me 8 yrs to learn phrasal verbs, but it is a work in progress.
Yes, I was convinced I spoke fairly good English when I moved to England, and had passed the Proficiency Test etc, but once I moved, I realized that I still had a long way to go. And still after all these yrs, after having read 100000000000 books in English, after having watched 100000000000000 TV programs...it is not as good as I would like it to be grin

Anyways, wow Annunziata quanti figli!!! smile Congratulations! Brava!

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 14:52:05

cincu? Cinque? Five? My mum would be envy she wanted six.

Annunziata Mon 01-Oct-12 14:58:30

I think you English is brilliant Franca, it's so well written!

grin They keep me busy! And mad! Grazzi mille. Quanti figgiu avia?

Annunziata Mon 01-Oct-12 15:00:26

Si, cincu!

Cazzo, my own English was shocking there! Scusatimi!

Grazie smile!

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 15:00:50

I might just say that, the point is to try to use as many of the verbs and tenses on the list as possible, not hide the fact that I am not entirely as normal as I would like to be? grin

Annunziata Mon 01-Oct-12 15:01:07

Oh lovely ages! Bedda!

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 15:04:52

no wonder your husband isn't keen on more babies then, four is plenty isn't it? Wait to be a nonnative?

I got muddled for a minute and thought you had five boys of your own not five brothers

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 15:06:11

NONNA

what IS a nonnative? A non-native?

Annunziata Mon 01-Oct-12 15:07:47

I have six babies! Five brothers, 2 sisters, 4 sons and 2 daughters grin

God no, I couldn't have another one, not at my age! I still want a gatti though.

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 15:15:43

oh of course, sorry, six - is not helped by the total blank I draw with numbers in English blush but yes, complimenti to you!

I love big families and hardly seem to come across any now, which is sad because in lots of ways they are fun to grow up in I think.

Annunziata Mon 01-Oct-12 15:20:51

Grazzi! One is adopted though, I shouldn't get too much complimenti.

Aye, it was great fun. And the expression on people's faces when we all appear grin

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 15:26:41

well a cat is not much to ask for after all those babies whether you grew them all yourself or not!

Annunziata Mon 01-Oct-12 15:36:11

SI! Precisamente! grin

Lui odio, he says he's never felt so unloved at his mothers because the cat gets fed before he does, it growls at him and it does have a nasty habit of digging her claws into him and tripping him up. ROFL.

LaFataTurchina Mon 01-Oct-12 15:38:45

I'm also v. impressed - I work in Early Years so regularly find my self looking after 6plus children but never by myself and also I get to give them back at the end of the day! grin

I'm feeling rather proud of my self as I've applied to 4 jobs today.

The bit of Italian grammar I struggle with is who gets 'lei' and who gets 'tu' - I know in theory but it practice I always get frazzled.
For example, someone serving me in a shop but my age (24) or younger - seems far too formal to call them 'lei'. Or someone elderly but my relative confused

It is OK to "dare del tu" to a shop assistant who is your age or younger, but I think it is more polite to use il lei. I don't always do it though, it really depends.

How old is your youngest Annunziata?

Annunziata Mon 01-Oct-12 16:43:23

14 Franca. Li chiu anticu avi 22.

Annunziata Mon 01-Oct-12 16:46:06

Bonu fortuna, lafata. Spero che va bene.

Si Lafata, in bocca al lupo!

Wow, Annunziata, all those kids in 8 yrs!!! I am impressed!

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 16:49:42

yes good luck lafata but povero lupo (only just learned the response to that phrase)

Annunziata Mon 01-Oct-12 16:52:01

Ah ma solo cincu, we didn't adopt DS3 till later!

Giori di caos, as my suocera says!

Annunziata Mon 01-Oct-12 16:53:38

Autocorrect, giori!

Alameda, we did it again! Che cazzo!

Well, it is still quite impressive grin

I didn't have the guts to go for a third.

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 16:56:26

me neither Franca, but she just sort of came anyway confused life is full of lovely surprises!

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 16:58:05

and AGAIN I think?

DEVO learn these verbi tonight or die trying, wish me luck without killing any wolves! x

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 16:58:32

giorni?

Annunziata Mon 01-Oct-12 17:02:08

In cullo al ballena, mi penso, no lupo! But I think that is rude, or it used to be?

We never planned them all, they just kept coming! blush

Si dice anche "in culo alla balena"!

I don't think that in bocca al lupo means anything bad for the lupo? Or am I missing something?

Ah, that's what you said Annunziata! I read "in culo alla ballerina" instead of balena grin

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 17:05:03

cullo sounds pleasingly rude smile

like enculé? (sp?) in French

Annunziata Mon 01-Oct-12 17:05:11

Bad spelling blush

Crepi is bad for the poor old wolf!

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 17:06:03

crepi il lupo?

Ah yes, of course!!!!!!!!! No povero lupo, we don't want him to die.

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 17:07:17

and x post again with crepi!

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 17:09:41

ma on balance I think I prefer the mouth of the lupo to that part of the balena

LaFataTurchina Mon 01-Oct-12 17:11:55

Good luck with the verbs Alameda, Italian verbs are horrible. I learned them and then promptly forgot them all again the second I finished my Italian A level!

Thanks for the good luck wishes everyone, the response I know is 'che crepi il lupo' as well.

Speaking of lupi - has anyone else ever heard of this slightly terrifying ninna nanna which I remember from my childhood -
"ninna nanna ninna oh.
questo bimbo a chi lo do
lo daremo al lupo nero
che lo tiene un mese intero"

there's other verses too but the lupo one is the one that sticks in my mind.

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 17:13:26

is that from one about coffee beans?

Annunziata Mon 01-Oct-12 17:14:21

Andiamo, ai iri nutriri miei figghiu, a presto!

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 17:19:34

hungry

does listening to various ninne nanna on YouTube count as 'studying'?

OliviaPeaceAndLoveMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 01-Oct-12 20:15:09

Ciao ciao ragazze

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 20:17:19

ciao! Are you actually Livia from insp. montalbano? And are you good at making irregular verbi fly out of the text book and into people's heads?

Annunziata Mon 01-Oct-12 21:30:13

Ciao! Comu va le verbi? Any better?

Aiu pulito la cucina e stiraruti, sonu stancarisi.

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 21:59:32

well you've taught me two new ones now! Pulire and stirare, new concepts and new verbs smile

but otherwise, umm confused

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 22:03:12

(both regular, transitive, the -are one is first conjugation and ire will be something else)

Annunziata Mon 01-Oct-12 22:08:25

God, I don't even know what that all means! grin

It will be fine, no worries! Sogni di oro cara smile

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 22:22:21

oh that is beautiful, thank you and to you!

(transitive I think means it involves something else, like you iron things, you clean things whereas sognare and dormire can be intransitive in that they can just happen without needing some object to complete them but of course they can be transitive too - not that it actually matters blush)

Alameda Mon 01-Oct-12 22:41:22

anyway from now am simplifying things and have decided there are two main sorts of verbi: ones that end in -are (most of them?) and ones that don't

and any other sort of sub classification is optional

NOW I can sleep

Alameda Tue 02-Oct-12 12:45:47

CIAO A TUTTI

cosa ha fanno?

Alameda Tue 02-Oct-12 13:28:26

you are always too busy doing valuable things!

am setting up a message board for my new classmates, everyone is miles apart which is the way of things in Suffolk and some go to different classes but we share a tutor and lesson content, so we can discuss things online or arrange to meet between classes etc - anyway, any ideas for what to call it? And where to host it?

LaFataTurchina Tue 02-Oct-12 13:55:55

Ciao Alameda!

I think Italian verbs fall into 3 groups - 'are' 'ere' and 'ire', and in each of those there's a regular pattern of endings for them (the regular verbs at least!)

Your message board idea sounds great - we have one for my uni cohort and everyone uses it and is really supportive on it. Ours is on facebook, and I know some friends who do a lot of collaborative work via google documents but that might be a bit too 'worky' for your needs.
Names hmm parliamo insieme (might be a bit cheesy maybe) Il messagiero ?

Io oggi sto molto bene perche'......the best of the jobs I applied to yesterday called me today and I've got an interview for Thursday. This job would be perfect for me so I've cosmic ordered it on the cosmic ordering thread! grin

Alameda Tue 02-Oct-12 14:01:14

ciao! Was just hovering on brink of registering parliamo.me.uk actually!

thank you, you are right about the verbi of course

Alameda Tue 02-Oct-12 14:03:32

oops too soon, I love cosmic ordering! Very best of luck for Thursday

Alameda Tue 02-Oct-12 14:06:03

Eeeek now if I register that domain people can look up my name and address on the Whois database

Annunziata Tue 02-Oct-12 14:07:29

Oh, molto eccitanti Lafata! You must let us know!

Annunziata Tue 02-Oct-12 14:07:53

Ciao alameda! Again haha.

Alameda Tue 02-Oct-12 14:09:56

haha ciao! He is one of my favourite ones (was a bit obsessed as a child, in fact had life plan: become a nun, a missionary, get martyred, prepare for canonisation blush - have accepted this might not happen now)

Annunziata Tue 02-Oct-12 14:15:24

Me lei piace anche, un giorno vaiu a Assisi!

grin at prepare for canonisation... it still might!

Ciao a tutte and congratulatoins Lafata, we'll keep fingers crossed.

are ere ire

Annunziata Tue 02-Oct-12 14:34:23

Alora, un buon giorno per tutti! More good news!

Alameda Tue 02-Oct-12 14:36:07

it might, tutti possibile con dio?

ciao Franca, nuota?

Alameda Tue 02-Oct-12 14:41:01

ok have done it but how best to say ho preparato un message board for all the students, please invite them?

Alameda Tue 02-Oct-12 14:51:09

is called il messaggero local name, is not too bad is it?

Annunziata Tue 02-Oct-12 14:57:43

That sounds fine! Can you maybe speak to them before or after the class?

Un aquazzune molto grande guisto bagnarutu tutti mei bucatu! Nooo!

Alameda Tue 02-Oct-12 15:13:19

oh no! This is why god invented the tumble dryer!

Yes I can ask my lot, but also emailed tutor asking her to invite all her other students in other villages and towns smile hopefully at least a few will be interested

can't be the only obsessively enthusiastic student around?

Annunziata Tue 02-Oct-12 15:52:32

Alameda Wed 03-Oct-12 10:27:19

nobody has joined it yet sad

Annunziata Wed 03-Oct-12 14:34:19

It's still early, people might need to work all day? sad

Annunziata Wed 03-Oct-12 19:06:33

Di chi parti e tutti? Speriamo che tutti va bene.

Ciao a tutte, ho avuto un very busy day.

Hope all is well, Alameda come va il message board? Sembra un'ottima idea!

Qui e' caldissimo, aiuto!

Annunziata Thu 04-Oct-12 14:39:11

Ciao a tutti.

Caldissimo? Fortunatu, ca' e friddu, solo 6 degrees questa mattina! Eugh!

Alameda Thu 04-Oct-12 14:43:16

Ciao smile ogni ok today?

No members yet, never mind, will go through my english to italian homework alone - it's revision for everyone else but all new and difficult to me confused

maybe I should cosmically order some study mates on my very old thread that I just saw bumped in active conversations

Alameda Thu 04-Oct-12 14:44:06

Not again annunziata!

Alameda Thu 04-Oct-12 14:44:41

I must type v slowly but you were not there when I started

Rosa Thu 04-Oct-12 14:46:23

6 gradi ...qui su 20 e sempre sticky e poi c'era bloody nebbia sta mattina mad ...

Annunziata Thu 04-Oct-12 14:46:44

grin

What is the homework?

Annunziata Thu 04-Oct-12 14:48:27

Ciao Rosa! Oh vorrei aviri 20, I don't think we got that all summer!

PM me if you need help with homework alameda!

Alameda Thu 04-Oct-12 15:12:02

Ciao rosa, is quindici qui ma windy (am waiting outside the bank and stupid knitted skirt keeps lifting up to show everyone my pants, or where my pants are hiding under woolly tights)

homework is mostly ok, just sentences, some are annoying though like 'what size waist are the white trousers in the window' as if am ever going to be clean enough between dog, horses, cats, grandtoddler nipotino to wear white clothes?

Alameda Thu 04-Oct-12 15:13:47

Ciao Franca, posso? Quand in casa con wifi etc? Molte grazie - promise not to laugh?

No worries Alameda!

Annunziata Thu 04-Oct-12 16:43:55

Ahh, indossavu jeans biancu a ch'era una picciotta.... grin

Alameda Fri 05-Oct-12 13:06:14

ciao a tutti - franca I hope it is still ok to pm the bits I am stuck on, but there is no rush to reply, only if you have a spare minute!

No worries, PM me!

Annunziata Fri 05-Oct-12 16:15:33

Ciao a tutti.

Roll on weekend, sono distrutta!

LaFataTurchina Sat 06-Oct-12 11:45:38

Ciao a tutte.

Bad week Franca or just super busy?

Guess what......I got the job!! Sort of - during the interview the said that I didn't have enough experience for the one I wanted, but they really like me so they were going to sort if out so I could be maternity cover for another position with less responsibility and I'm getting only a bit less money than I would with the originally position! I, of course gratefully accepted smile smile

All going well, I start in 3 weeks. It also means DP and I can finally move in together as the job's in his city. It does mean though we have about 2 weeks to find a flat we agree on and move in.

Annunziata Sat 06-Oct-12 11:57:48

LaFata that is absolutely brilliant! Congratulations! Onwards and upwards!

Brava Lafata, complimenti!!!

No, not bad week, just super busy and bad backache makes me even more distrutta alla sera!

Annunziata Sun 07-Oct-12 12:13:34

Ciao a tutti- hope you are all enjoying your weekends!

Oggi veni il innamoratu, eek!

Annunziata Sun 07-Oct-12 12:43:01

Lei carriare sbuccia! Aww. Me piace, he's sweet.

They are sitting about a million miles apart on the sofa. DS1 is watching them like angry

grin

Alameda Sun 07-Oct-12 14:14:05

ooooh your special guest? Is someone jealous?

I am covered in mud, horse hair and worse stuff and need to clean the kitchen and myself before I try to cook for a few people using only a small halogen oven and a crusty microwave hmm - hope kitchen is finished by Christmas

have NEARLY finished my homework, just a couple of stupid bits left smile

how is your back Franca?

Alameda Sun 07-Oct-12 14:14:58

What are they peeling? My dictionary is rubbish

Alameda Sun 07-Oct-12 14:16:23

Oh massive complimenti to you lafata! Sorry, my phone + no glasses not good

fantastically well done x

Annunziata Sun 07-Oct-12 20:45:52

Haha no, he brought flowers! Sweetie. DS1 is just protective, there's 8 years between then. Big numpty, I sent him out to give them peace. Hope your dinner went well and Franca's back improves!

My back is still crap, tomorrow I am going swimming, so hopefully it will help.

Annunziata Mon 08-Oct-12 18:49:45

Wasn't it? Just lovely! I felt the need to pinch his cheeks, I must be getting old.

Back pain is a killer, so hard to shift.

Emmm, talianu.... Ch'una giorna da bon tempu, friddu ma molto soleggiato, I had on my occhiali da suli!

Alameda Tue 09-Oct-12 12:32:43

ciao a tutti, molto soleggiata (?) qui oggi

in case franca's back is still bad here is some revisione for everyone to help

vorrei ... spremuta senza ghiaccio
vorrei ... vitello al forno (yuck never)
vorrei ... torta di castagne (is that an actual cake?)
vorrei ... polpette di manzo
vorrei ... bruschetta con acciughe e aglio
vorrei ... carciofi al prezzemolo yum
vorrei ... spinaci all'agro
vorrei ... pomodori ripieni al forno (are there sea ceeatures hiding in there though?)

Alameda Tue 09-Oct-12 12:33:18

I forgot ... albicocche mature

My back is still crap, but I can help nevertheless grin

Do you want me to write down the answers?

Alameda Tue 09-Oct-12 12:42:32

Is it cheating though? Have pages and pages of these things, I think these are the answers:

oh god I just looked at the table of il al del gli dagli argh millions

Alameda Tue 09-Oct-12 12:43:24

is the first one alle?

Alameda Tue 09-Oct-12 12:44:27

alla? dalla?

Alameda Tue 09-Oct-12 12:45:07

SI PER FAVORE

OK, for these kind of exercise del/delle/degli aren't articles, but aggettivi partitivi, it means you would translate them with some.

I won't give you the answer now if you are worried about cheating grin but think about the gender of the name and choose accordingly, you wanna try?

vorrei ... spremuta senza ghiaccio
vorrei ... vitello al forno (yuck never)
vorrei ... torta di castagne (is that an actual cake?)
vorrei ... polpette di manzo
vorrei ... bruschetta con acciughe e aglio
vorrei ... carciofi al prezzemolo yum
vorrei ... spinaci all'agro
vorrei ... pomodori ripieni al forno (are there sea ceeatures hiding in there though?)

with "some"

OK, I will do the first one, then you try:

Vorrei DELLA spremuta d'arancia

Alameda Tue 09-Oct-12 12:54:52

ok I think della or delle or alla or alle spremuta, dallo vitello?, ummm dall'apricots, della torte?, delle polpette, della bruschetta, dei carciofi? and dei spinaci and degli pomodori

are any of them right?

Alameda Tue 09-Oct-12 12:56:06

Ooh I cross posted, yay was right first time!

thank you for helping, are any of the others ok?

Alameda Tue 09-Oct-12 12:57:40

(thinking about all this food is making my tummy rumble)

vorrei DELLA spremuta senza ghiaccio
vorrei DEL vitello al forno (yuck never)
vorrei DELLA torta di castagne (is that an actual cake, yes, it is it's called Castagnaccio, I am ?)
vorrei DELLE polpette di manzo
vorrei DELLA bruschetta con acciughe e aglio (however, usually you'd say UNA, not della, imho)
vorrei DEI carciofi al prezzemolo yum
vorrei DEGLI spinaci all'agro
vorreiDEIpomodori ripieni al forno (are there sea ceeatures hiding in there though?)

It is a difficult exercise this one. Think about the usual articles ie:
I POmodori ... dei pomodori

gli spinaci degli spinaci

Add message | Report | Message poster

Alameda Tue 09-Oct-12 13:25:06

Oh my goodness, thank you so much. I will write them all down and see if I can make sense of why which thing takes which contracted form (?), but the table has 35 possibilities and they are not labelled m or f or even singular or plural but there is a row of il lo la l' i gli and le along the top. It's not the most helpful book actually, mia figlia ha a much better one. Might steal it.

Also have a few sentences am still stuck on, feel free to ignore if this is getting a bit annoying blush

which restaurants do you prefer? quali ristorante preferisci (is that it?)
which dessert do you like most of all? quali dolci ti piace più di tutti?
and 'with whom do you go normally to the restaurant' I don't do anything normally, do you think they mean normally go - normalmente ?

I am actually beginning to appreciate how difficult it is to learn a new language!

I'd say:
Quale ristorante preferisci?
Quale dolce ti piace di più?
grin at normally! Here i'd translate as di solito Con chi vai di solito al ristorante?

Annunziata Tue 09-Oct-12 13:41:35

Wow that's hard

<head explodes>

Alameda Tue 09-Oct-12 13:51:58

grazie grazie grazie

is it hard? It is for me, it's very basic revision for everyone else in my group but I am (surprisingly) much better at listening and reading comprehension and even at saying things than most - which is good otherwise would lose heart

this week's verbi irregolari is sapere which luckily I do actually know so I can manage those questions (do they know where Gigi is, I don't know his name but I know he is rich etc) and then there is a little story to read and answer questions on which I like doing.

Alameda Tue 09-Oct-12 13:53:32

Argh have accidentally hit 'hide' instead of flip, will I ever find this thread again once I navigate away? sad

Annunziata Tue 09-Oct-12 14:00:30

I think it's hard hmm but I was never taught properly.

We could make a new one in somewhere it won't get lost?

Alameda Tue 09-Oct-12 14:12:09

Is ok, I switched to desktop site and found 'manage hidden threads' there were loads I never knew I'd hidden!

but those partitivi articles, a lot sound the same to me confused

I wish they didn't exist, there must be a way of making learning them fun!

Alameda Tue 09-Oct-12 14:17:57

might have to reward myself with a bit of montalbano on iplayer

the homework story is boring, he's not even in it, just a couple of friends who have very boring lives, no salacious murders at all sad

It is hard.

But then you should now see me having a nervous breakdown as I am trying to knit a bloody scarf for dd, who said that knitting was relaxing? B* hell!

Aggettivi partitivi are a nightmare because they are = a preposizioni articolate. Ds has been studying them, and struggling.

Annunziata Tue 09-Oct-12 14:32:18

He liked (what do they say in Italian?, just like?) another ragazza's photo dal Facebook. Stronzo hmm Ma idda partiri. Ah well.

Ma non sono aiuto con knitting.

Alameda Wed 10-Oct-12 11:27:00

oh naughty boy

I've seen a 'piace' FB button on italian things, probably montalbano related, I clicked it anyway cos I do piace him molto or piace molto him, I just can't say I molto piace him or I get told off for putting words in the wrong order - suppose it is flexible as languages can reasonably be expected to be?

love knitting but you have reminded me that I didn't send my square for one of the MN blankets sad why am I so horrible? Perché io sono orribile?

Annunziata Wed 10-Oct-12 14:44:33

I don't use it myself but supervise DD2s, and DD1 likes to show me her photos on it (some of them I wish she wouldn't!)

Alora, he deserved to be embarrassed!

Mi piaccerebbe to knit, forsi sia impari quannu sugnu pensionnatu.

Quanna oggi fina a quanna sicilia?

Alameda Wed 10-Oct-12 18:53:47

non capisco as usual

the tender little italian receptors in my brain are not glowing very brightly at all tonight

Annunziata Wed 10-Oct-12 19:03:37

Hard day?

'I'd like to be able to knit, maybe I'll learn when I'm retired. How many days until Sicily?'

Alameda Wed 10-Oct-12 19:12:12

Oh I thought that's what you said, should trust myself a bit more blush

I don't know how to spell it but only diciotto giorne

can't wait! need someone to come with though, daughter definitely wants to stay with the horses

Annunziata Wed 10-Oct-12 19:23:18

Aaahh so soon! You're so lucky. It's still up near 30 I think.

Solo 3 sad

Annunziata Wed 10-Oct-12 20:28:51

I think my c'e's are wrong. Ach well.

Alameda Wed 10-Oct-12 20:44:32

Tre gradi! How can you live? Makes me want to cry, I hate being cold. It says it is tredici qui, ora, and non ho felice (non sono felice?) about that

Annunziata Wed 10-Oct-12 20:56:34

Non sono mi penso.

Si, tre! Tre! Dumani s'avi fa 10, mi penso. I feel the cold so badly too. Stivali, capottu, guanti e coccolu! grin (e tea, voglio bene tea)

Mi piacerebbe aviri una pillicia, ma I would look like a grizzly bear, I am molto curto!

Annunziata Wed 10-Oct-12 20:57:00

*Non sono felice, scusa!

Brrrr 3 gradi! Povera Annunxiata!

Alameda Wed 10-Oct-12 21:15:44

Ho una pelliccia! sono un po' cattiva (?) was an impulse buy years ago. You can borrow it, your need is greater!

Annunziata Wed 10-Oct-12 21:32:45

Grazzi haha. But seriously, grizzly bear grin

Alameda Thu 11-Oct-12 12:13:57

sono wider than I am tall e non sono curto so goodness knows what I look like in it, in my imagination I look like Julie Christie in dr zhivago but a grizzly bear would be a good look too!

allora . .

Voglio andare a letto sad

(It's not whingeing if in italian is it? Is conversation practice)

Alameda Thu 11-Oct-12 14:34:19

naso non rotto, just runny

O povera Alameda... comunque, non ti preoccupare a noi italiani piace whinging!!! It is our national sport, so lets whinge as we please! smile

Annunziata Thu 11-Oct-12 14:42:23

Nun e lamenti, no!

Alameda Thu 11-Oct-12 14:58:19

smile grazie mi sento (senta?) meglio (meglia) adesso - sympathy is best medicine smile

penso l'inverno troppo bruto - malsano?

Annunziata Thu 11-Oct-12 15:03:04

Hehe Franca I have an elderly aunt and you say to her 'stai bene' and she says' sto bene? Sto bene!' and then launches into a 40 minute rant about her general health grin

Lol Annunziata I can perfectly picture your aunt. Ooooh it is sooo typical!!!

Alameda Fri 12-Oct-12 09:08:25

at last, something I might be good at!

Alameda Fri 12-Oct-12 09:34:40

does that make sense?

anyway I am SO ILL I might not even go to the gym today shock or anywhere else much, voglio ascoltare finally to the CDs that come with the course while leggere the book

Alameda Fri 12-Oct-12 09:58:41

dimmi, che cos'hai? (while I am still alive)

Annunziata Fri 12-Oct-12 15:40:29

Ciao!

Alameda Fri 12-Oct-12 16:11:31

Si si terribili. did I mention that ho il raffreddore? Vado all'ospedale nearly, it is a miracle that I can even type this!

Annunziata Fri 12-Oct-12 16:19:36

Tu povero sad

Alameda Sat 13-Oct-12 10:58:02

how would I cope if I ever had anything seriously wrong with me! Which (obviously hoping is not serious) reminds me how is your back Franca?

anyway che tempo fa? Oggi fa molto freddo a suffolk, preferisco stare a casa really and leggo and ascolto musica ma andrò vedere (and what is ride?) gli mie cavalli

Annunziata Sat 13-Oct-12 11:29:05

Ciao! Bleurgh.

I think this is spelt wrong but it sounds like cravacare when they say ride?

Alameda Sat 13-Oct-12 11:38:13

can't find anything like it in dictionary sad in the other book it suggests andare a cavallo, like andare in bicicletta + essere

spero fa bello più tardi!

Annunziata Sat 13-Oct-12 11:41:53

Anch'io!

That is odd. Montare sounds better to me the more I think about it. confused

Alameda Sat 13-Oct-12 12:12:10

Vado a cavallo? 'clinging on for dear life' at the moment more like, pregiamo ...

Oggi qui piove e fa freddo, e io sono già stufa. Vorrei che fosse sempre estate.

Annunziata Mon 15-Oct-12 14:54:59

Sono felice che tu schiene e meglio! Fa friddu chi anche. E fa nibbiusu sta mattina,

Qualcuno te guardese Malena? La pellicula con Monica Bellucci? Someone gave it me for my mum, but I don't know if it's going to be too much for her.

Annunziata Mon 15-Oct-12 14:55:18

Forgot my manners: Ciao a tutti, comu stai?

Annunziata Mon 15-Oct-12 14:55:52

And my punctuation, dear god. My bambini are not at school today, you see what they are doing to me?

grin

No, never seen malena... I don't think it is a particularly good film, but I might be confusing it for a different one grin

Annunziata Mon 15-Oct-12 15:13:01

It looks terrible to be honest, I think the basic story is 'Monica Bellucci is beautiful' but she'd get upset if there were bombs and Germans. DH has, very kindly, offered to watch it. He says it'd be a terrible problem, but, well, for my mother <shakes head>

LaFataTurchina Mon 15-Oct-12 15:37:43

Ciao everyone,

Have just looked at the IMDB synopsis for that movie - it sounds a bit, uhm, 'saucy' for want of a better word!

Annunziata Mon 15-Oct-12 15:48:56

Si, mi penso ce chistu mernu e molto friddu. sad

Apparently the last bit is very upsetting too. I think I'll watch it first.

It is 10 degrees here, it was 22 just 3 days ago! I am not ready for winter.

I moan a lot in the winter grin

Annunziata Mon 15-Oct-12 17:20:18

E una differenza grossu!

Mi penso che tutti moan in winter. It's horrible!

Alameda Tue 16-Oct-12 10:34:10

sto troppo male, non posso vivere così sad

actually might be slightly better but no energy, so depressing, is spring coming yet?

Oh povera Alameda! Get thee some zinc + vit c supplements from Boots, they work! (ime)

Annunziata Tue 16-Oct-12 14:12:06

Ciao a tutti! Povera Alameda sad Mi penso che duviriamo hibernate.

La pelliculla era trash, but very enjoyable trash blush I don't know if I'll give it to my mum though, quite violent! Ma il paisaggiu e vestiti eranu beddu.

Alameda Tue 16-Oct-12 18:48:29

grazie grazie per essere comprensiva (there must be a better way to say that!)

is there zinc in berocca? I just need to pull myself together, should save the sulking for when it is actually cold really blush wish had made it to Italian class but tutor has kindly sent lots of homework

please all feel free to help!

Alameda Wed 17-Oct-12 11:50:56

Oggi I will mostly compile a massive pm for Franca to mark at her leisure, penso.

LaFataTurchina Wed 17-Oct-12 12:15:05

Poor Alameda!

My top tip for general healthiness when you feel really blurgh:
Get berocca (which by the way is magical, and has zinc) and instead of dissolving it in water, dissolve it in a big glass of fresh orange juice for extra vit C. If you can't face a pint of berocca at breakfast time drink it with your dinner - multivitamins get absorbed best when had with the main meal of the day.

Alameda Wed 17-Oct-12 12:24:08

Grazie, am lapping up the sympathy grin

mi piace MOLTO berocca, is a miracle working substance - never thought of dissolving in oj (bit scared of the calories)

Annunziata Wed 17-Oct-12 13:01:09

Ciao a tutti! I have not done homework in <counts on fingers> 26 years, it scares me grin

La pioggia e violenta oggi!

Alameda Thu 18-Oct-12 09:44:46

Alameda Thu 18-Oct-12 17:36:42

penso will go da sola

wondering who you fly with annunziata and can you get direct flights out of stagione?

Consils Thu 18-Oct-12 19:20:55

studio Italiano com Michel Thomas. non e facile.

Alameda Thu 18-Oct-12 19:29:36

buone sera consils, ti e piaciuto studiare con Michel thomas? Chi e?

Annunziata Thu 18-Oct-12 20:00:02

Ciao a tutti!

Flights are a nightmare to be honest, none from Scotland afaik. Normally we go via London and then drive down. We use BA, it's not ideal, but we can get the airmiles/ points things (especially because there are so many of us!) which helps.

Ciao ragazze!
Alameda, stai meglio?

Morti

Annunziata Thu 18-Oct-12 20:08:59

Oooh, frutta martona from the morticieddi! Yummy.

Alameda Thu 18-Oct-12 20:11:35

Si grazie Franca and ciao all! 27th ottobre >> Milan 29th >>> Catania! Hooray

am bit cross about the flights as Alitalia have cancelled my return flight so now am flying out of gatwick and back to heathrow grrrrrrrrr is really unhelpful of them!

Oooh sodding Alitalia! Awww catania, we ate in a loely trattoria this summer, mind you Alameda the highlight were frutti di mare!!! Oooooh I miss Sicily.

Annunziata Thu 18-Oct-12 20:14:37

Alameda you'll be there for Ognissanti!!! envy Get the frutta martona e ossi di morti, amazing!!!

RavenVonChaos Thu 18-Oct-12 20:16:23

How do you pronounce vuole?

Alameda Thu 18-Oct-12 20:17:54

I badly wanted mia sorella to come because she loves frutti di mare and could have guided me through - she might still, is going to sleep on it and let me know. Actually is one night with friend in Milan then Catania (then Siracusa please let there be frequent trains)

I kind of do want to go alone too though, in some ways, is nice to please yourself isn't it!

Alameda Thu 18-Oct-12 20:19:16

Ciao raven, that is a question for the italiani isn't it but I say 'vwo-lay'

Annunziata Thu 18-Oct-12 20:21:10

Ciao, Raven! My very bad attempt at writing it down is like vole with a y. So voleh. hmm

Either will it will be brilliant, Alameda! You must dimmi tutti when you come back!

Alameda Thu 18-Oct-12 20:22:13

vwolay par-lah-ray Italia-nay-zay/ee?

Alameda Thu 18-Oct-12 20:23:59

voo-oh-lay?

venga con me mia amica siciliana!

Annunziata Thu 18-Oct-12 20:27:28

Who knows, I have the oddest talian out!

God I would be there in a shot if

a) I could get time off work (ha)
b) DH wasn't incapable
c) mie suocera wouldn't kill me for leaving her darling
c) the DC, I had to separate them tonight because DS1 (22. 22 YEARS OLD) went to McDonalds with DD2, stole her toy cannon from her happy meal and proceeded to spend the evening shooting the cannon at everyone, leading to a fight in my bloody living room)

<exhales>

Vu as the french vous
O as omega
Le as noooo idea! grin

Annunziata Thu 18-Oct-12 20:28:09

Bit of a rant there. Mi diaspiace blush

Annunziata Thu 18-Oct-12 20:28:43

A, B, C, D, Annunziata! Boh.

Rant? Ma nooo! A good Italian always rants and is proud of it.shall I start?

Annunziata Thu 18-Oct-12 20:35:18

Go for it!

grin

Alameda Thu 18-Oct-12 20:36:22

hahahaha al a b c c grin

I would trust the dog to do a better job of babysitting than my 20yo, she is lovely but either her or the 13 yo or both would come to a terrible end if left alone? So I know I know!

I actually hate saying vuole (and vorrei) more than any other word except 'gli' (my jaw is just too static for that)

Alameda Thu 18-Oct-12 20:37:34

goodie, ranting italiani!

will take notes smile

BellaTata Thu 18-Oct-12 21:06:23

I'm here! Thanks for the link! Only know very basic Italian so I'll have a flick through the pages and try and keep up!

Annunziata Thu 18-Oct-12 21:14:16

Ciao BellaTata!

Do they still use tata as cutie or whatever? Is that ancient?

BellaTata Thu 18-Oct-12 21:18:23

I am under the impression that bella is beauty and tata is nanny, as in... io sono una tata. That may be completely wrong with masc/fem endings etc. I start my course on Monday so hopefully I will pick it up quickly.

BellaTata Thu 18-Oct-12 21:21:50

Scusa, I should greet you first. Cioa Annuziata, come va? Grazie for showing me the thread. Will be good to have people to practise on and that I can't see them laughing at me when I pronounce things incorreectly!

Annunziata Thu 18-Oct-12 21:23:47

Nessun problema! Va bene, grazie! Abitare in italia? Che fortuna!

That might be me going dialect-ally again!

LaFataTurchina Thu 18-Oct-12 21:27:48

Benvenuta BellaTata!
I thought tata was nanny as well, it's also dialect for auntie in my bit of Italy.

My mum's going to Sicily for a few weeks this November, I'm jealous I haven't been since I was about 12. I wouldn't mind going to Milan either

But really the place I want to go back to in Italy is Gardaland. Has anyone ever been? I love that place blush grin

Annunziata Thu 18-Oct-12 21:30:17

Haha, the DC loved there! Have you been to the waterpark?

The whole lake is lovely too.

Back in the days of dinosaurs you could call your girlfriends 'tata' blush

BellaTata Thu 18-Oct-12 21:36:22

Si, io live vicino Milano. Io sono una tata per 3 ragazze. Bellisimo nazione. Getting slightly freddo at notte now, prima giorno con the heating on!

BellaTata Thu 18-Oct-12 21:38:37

Ciao tutti! The eldest ragazza io look after went in the summer e loved it! I will go myself in the spring!

Annunziata Thu 18-Oct-12 21:45:19

Oh lovely! I think there are quite a few people on here from around there.

Io sono Italian-Scottish smile

Alameda Fri 19-Oct-12 09:14:37

yay someone else to help me with homework who is learning ciao bellatata, benvenuta smile mia figlia was an au pair in Italia (for about venti minutes before she got homesick) she loved italian school though

È nuvoloso and gloomioso oggi, devo pull self together somehow ma molto stanca Again - what is everyone else up to?

Ciao Bellatata, io abito a Milano!

I have just checked the prices for flights to Catania, as I'd really, really NEED only 3 days of Sicily (I was thinking maybe one day by the seaside, and one day at the Gole dell'Alcantara), but it is too expensive for the 4 of us, I left it too long! Uffa.
Prenoterò per le vacanze di Pasqua.

Io oggi sono LIBERA, free as a bird.... Until the school run.
I have just baked a cake! Now I should tidy up, but non ho voglia.

Ciao a tutti!

alexpolismum Fri 19-Oct-12 09:34:13

How long have you lived there, BellaTata? I have never been to Milan. When I was in Italy, I was in Tuscany (where I picked up a few local words) and then in Sicily. Both lovely places!

Bellatata, wow you are in a beautiful area. I live in central Milan, which I love. We lived in the Uk for 8 yrs, until 2007. We didn't pick a great time to move back to Italy grin. Still, I like it, all my friends/family are here.

BellaTata Fri 19-Oct-12 09:37:02

Tu cant beat Yorkshire te, io sona una yorkshire ragazza myself! I get to go home in Dicembre so io will bring a box back qui. Io think its the zucchero that makes it taste different.

Tuscany and Sicily are a marvellous part of the world.
I'd like to go to Greece next summer, take the dc to see some ruins, ds will study gli antichi greci this year! I haven't been for ages!

alexpolismum Fri 19-Oct-12 09:37:34

I know the feeling, Franca, this isn't exactly a great time to be in Greece either!

Where did you live in the UK? I haven't been back for about 4 years now.

alexpolismum Fri 19-Oct-12 09:38:45

Ciao, Franca!

I know Alex, I feel so sad and worried for what's happening in Europe. Lets hope we can rise up from this (and here in Italy we have the added problem of not seeing Berlsuconi back ever again)!

We lived in Exeter. Lovely area. I miss it greatly, though I struggled the first few yrs. I must say that I like living in big cities.

alexpolismum Fri 19-Oct-12 09:40:30

BellaTata Fri 19-Oct-12 09:43:18

Scusa per being piano/lento. io have been qui since mid Augusto, molto bello area. I worked in Lugano for sei mese prima io came qui. Both mio bosses work a Milano, io have not been to the centre yet, usually got o Lugano on my giorno off.

Sorry for random word placed everywhere, need to learn where they go in the sentences.

alexpolismum Fri 19-Oct-12 09:46:08

alexpolismum Fri 19-Oct-12 09:47:45

BellaTata - you can say "prima di venire qui" - before coming here. I always used to use "prima" with "di+infinitive", it's the easiest way!

BellaTata Fri 19-Oct-12 09:51:15

How do i pronounce 'venire?' I have my first lesson on Monday so will hopefully pick it up quickly, the bits I know now are from working here.

alexpolismum Fri 19-Oct-12 09:55:39

venire - ven-eee-reh

The stress usually falls on the syllable before last, unless there is an accent on the final syllable, and you pronounce every letter in Italian.

Good luck with your lessons!

alexpolismum Fri 19-Oct-12 09:57:17

try it out with some other words, too.

Prima di andare - before going
prima di mangiare - before eating

alexpolismum Fri 19-Oct-12 09:58:56

I have to go to pick up my children from school (I am still an hour ahead of you in Italy!), it's nearly 12 o'clock, and they finish at half past 12.

a dopo!

BellaTata Fri 19-Oct-12 10:00:32

Grazie, io will try these. Buona giornata!
