Dh is an SHO3 in our local teaching hospital in a band 3 post (i.e. the one where they pay you silly amounts of money in return for your contract being illegal - too many hours; come December, if it's still illegal he will get his basic salary again each month as compensation). Anyway. To try to make the average weekly hours come in at between 56 and 60 hours there are blocks of leave built into the rota over each three month period. He is on leave at the moment and is rota-ed to be off until 17 Nov. He has his part 2 MRCP exam next week and is using the time to study as it's impossible during normal working time. He had a call this morning from the ward secretary to say that his leave was being cancelled and that he should go to work tomorrow; the rota has been re-written. He has since had a very difficult conversation with the consultant in charge of the rota who has basically said tough, I have too many people to accommodate! Can they really do this??? Asking medical staffing is useless - can anyone help?
