Hi..

Just wondered what people's views were on Ulrika / her book / her date rape allegations??

I personally am not that interested in her life but wonder why she wants to reveal all!!

Prufrock - you took the word right out of my mouth!!!!
A very sad lady who seems desperate to keep her name and face in the papers.

Can't stand the ropey old bag.

I used to always like her, used to love Shooting Stars, but have completely gone off her recently. I was just in the supermarket and heard 3 80 year old ladies (if not older!) discussing who could have raped her! Everyone in the media seems to know but no-one's naming names, anyone got a clue (and WHY do I care???!!!)

I think she's done herself more harm than good and comes across as a very sad, attention seeker. I can't bear all this airing of dirty laundry in public.

Oooh yes - would love to know who it is - did I say I wasn't interested?????

(feel like a voice in the wilderness) I think she's done a good thing in shattering the nation's confidence in a man who treats women pretty shabbily (but doesn't she pick em??). but feel very sorry for her children, who must be affected by the way she was brought up too (her father making sure she saw him/different women having sex, forgetting her birthday etc etc), despite a shedload of therapy. mixed feelings really. I think she's a good presenter, more spontaneous than a lot of the be-suited, so called glamorous ones. I'll go & hide my face now.

I've never been that keen on her, but I think she has been very silly publishing about this rape after all these years. If she was that disturbed by it she would have taken action at the time surely and it looks like the bloke involved is saying that she consented so its is all going to get messy, and eventually his name will come out and for what?

I'm SO behind - can someone fill me in. What did she DO at that award ceremony recently - all I heard were jokes about it. I'm dying to get up to date. I am afraid I am very sad at the moment - I go to bed whenever I can (pregnancy wimpishness) so miss all the gossip. PLEASE FILL ME IN.

Like Bundle, I think Ulrika is a really good presenter, especially when you consider how hard live tv must be. This makes her revealations all the more shocking - I am so surprised that someone who comes across as so confident consistently picks men who treat her badly. Like Ellasmum, I am not particularly interested in her life but am a bit curious as to why she wants to reveal all.
(As far as who the rapist is... well, I've heard a rumour but I'm too scared to put it down here in case I get sued for defamation of character if I'm wrong as the source of my info is a friend of a friend of a friend etc!!!!!)

I know I'm dangling a carrot here but I really don't think I should say in case I'm wrong. But, you can be rest assured that when it comes out, if I am right, I will say "I knew that" (just like Bella from the Tweenies!).

kkgirl, even if the rape happened a long time ago she's still, IMO, perfectly entitled to bring it up now (or whenever she wants) and prosecute/give the man's name. Or do you think she shouldn't be allowed to because she's Ulrika and is famous? I don't have that much sympathy for her actually but I do think she was treated badly as a child (from bits I've heard, not that up on it either) and it is sad. And she clearly has self esteem issues looking at her poor choice in men. Have personal reasons to dislike her too but like Meid, can't go into them here.

Meid,I have heard a name from two different sources, but am a scaredy cat and it would be awful to say a name if it wasnt true, wouldn't it?

Am I right in thinking that libel laws and the like don't apply on the internet? Or is that crap and did I make it up?!!! In other words Meid, give us a clue!!!

I'll come round and hide with you, Bundle. I feel very sorry for her, and for her children too. She seems to have had a difficult upbringing, and however tedious and attention-seeking some of her revelations are, she was raped as a teenager and she has had to deal with her dd's serious heart defects.

bundle · 22/10/2002 16:22

Marina, thanks for bringing me in from the wilderness! I suppose we all have baggage of one kind or another, just as non-celebs we get to behave in a more anonymous way. living life in the full glare of publicity may make you think it's normal to tell everyone everything, I dunno.

Marina, even though I am being a bit naughty here, I actually agree with you. I thought she came over very well in the documentary (if that's what it was) last week and obviusly loves her children to bits. She seems very messed up and has terrible taste in men, probably due to her childhood
