Hi, I'm might be going to Leeds in November but am really unsure where is a good place for a base....which area is good to stay at & where should i avoid.

also any accomadation recommendations (cheap but in nice area & good for transport connections)

Never been that way in my life...hence help needed...just meeting up with an old old friend who i remet via friends reunited and Leeds seemed the most middle point of meeting. (ps it is female friend so don't go getting any ideas ladies)

Dixie, I'm only about 10 miles from Leeds but its somewhere I never go. The transport is quite good around Leeds - large railway station with direct trains all over the country and large bus network too. Chapeltown is the red light district and parts of Harehills and Beeston can be a bit rough, but I'm no expert. I think Tetley is nearer Leeds than me so she might be able to help. There are also lots of really good tourist information offices and they should be able to help with accomodation if nobody comes up with anything on here.

Commuted to Leeds for 5 years whilst doing a degree but never really got that find of it - alwasy dashed straight in and out. My only comment would be thatYork is only just up the road and has many lovely places to stay and visit so might offer a more exciting alternative. Its well connected to Leeds by Train and Road.

I travel to other cities (Leeds included) a couple of times a year on business, my knowledge of Leeds is a bit limited. I know you've probably already done it but looking on the web for accomodation is quite a good way of getting some really good deals. Before going I usually ring up tourist info (you can also view websites for number) and ask them to send me a map and also ask for advice about which areas to avoid as a lone female traveller. Sorry can't be more specific.
