toddler is always freezing in the swimming pool problem

Last winter we put DS into a lycra swimsuit -from M&S -it was the only way to keep him from shivering & lips turning blue when we took him swimming.

I bought a next-size-up, but Mothercare sunsuit for this autumn... and I don't think it's going to work. It's short sleeve & pants, and DS seems to need long sleeve, long trousers to prevent the shivering & blue lips. And that's in August!

Now the shops have restocked for autumn, and where am I going to find an affordable full body lycra suit for a nearly 3yo?

Help!!

Zebra, my son's got a to the elbow sleeved/knee length shorts all-in-one lycra sunsuit. It's lime and navy fine stripes. He only wore it once last year and once this year and next year it will be too small. He's 3 as well. Try and get my email from Mumsnet and we could talk if you're interested in it!

Zebra, where do you take your ds swimming...the north sea!!!? Just kidding. I think some people just feel the cold more than others. Like your son, I turn blue in water that most people find totally comfortable. I even find the mediterranean in august too cold for swimming. While my dh (and my ds) would quite happily swim in the most freezing cold water (like the north sea) at any time of year.

all pools have different temperatures - in my area one is known for being especially warm. Do you have a choice of pools locally? phone them up and compare temperatures. Maybe you could find somewhere warmer?

www.incywincy.org has an online catalogue with great-looking neoprene swimsuits with long shorts and long sleeved tops (neoprene is what divers use and is very warm. Otherwise, maybe avoid swimming unless he really likes it. I really, really feel the cold in water and rarely to into swimming pools because of it - and only swim in the carribbean (and can't afford to go there any more..)

The incywincy suit is about £22, I think.

MandyD -- would you email me? mama dot zebra at ntlworld dot com.

Robinw -- yes, DS is skinny. DH's lips also turn blue in the pool. Family of stick insects, my husband's. I get too cold just sitting in the pool, too, though.

Thanks for the tip, Aloha, but we're still talking £28 for a swimsuit -- ouch.

We could skip going, but I tend to think it good for kids to have experience (& fun) in water.
