Email inbox lost due to BT fault

I'm at my wits end with BT and wondered if any other Mumsnetters have experienced the same problem? I can't be the only one?!!

I was searching for an email in my inbox last Tuesday and all of a sudden my search results disappeared. When I cleared all the filters, there was still nothing in my inbox.

I eventually got through to customer services at BT (it's a BT email address) and they admitted there had been a fault and all my emails were indeed gone - from their servers too - and they offered to show me how to get my last 7 days' worth of emails back.

7 days?! My life was on there! Hundreds and hundreds of emails - bills to pay, friends to catch up with, plans to finalise, suppliers to chase, etc. etc. 7 days is a drop in the ocean!! I was assured nothing more could be done. Very much a 'take it or leave it' attitude.

I am horrified and can't believe there is nothing more they can do. I raised a complaint but have yet to hear from the 'supervisor' who was due to call me back last Thursday and again last night (they have texted to say they tried to reach me but I have no missed calls on either my landline or mobile?!).

If a server went down, this must have affected hundreds or thousands of BT customers but I can't find anything significant/recent online.

Anyone else out there had the same experience or can offer any advice, please?? If nothing else, I'd like other people to be aware that this can happen...
