Caitlin Moran

Special snowflake if ever I encountered one. Blocked me on Twitter after she posted a comment about British jobs going to British people, to which I asked which country her Topshop jeans were made in. Hardly inflammatory, more inviting discussion. Her Times columns have taken on a new vibe since being blocked for a seemingly innocent observation. I have her books and until recently bought The Times Saturday for her musings. Since the Twitter block I've come to the conclusion that Caitlin Moran is an attention seeking, self-publicising dolt. Her name isn't even Caitlin, it's Catherine, and she says her version of the pronunciation of Caitlin is 'cat lin', not 'cayt lin' as most of us know. Look at me, look how different I am.

I'm going to get flamed for this but she can be summed up by the sentence 'I grew up on a council estate in Wolverhampton and was home educated, moved to London, got lucky in writing bile for a music magazine, got luckier in attracting the interest of a bloke who I make a career out of extolling the virtues of his ineptitude as a human, and I am better than you because I am a council girl done good who writes for a right wing newspaper, so up the bum to you'.

Can't stand her, meself.

She blocked me, years ago, when I Hmm at India Knight for making goady comments about depression.

Blocking seems really arsey to me. I bet lots of teitterers lose life time fans on twitter

I bought her last 3 books, and DH has just commented that she has a new one coming out and would I like it, to which my answer was a polite 'no thank you'. It is my opinion that she is so far up her self-involved arse she could kiss her own socialist colon.

You're putting a lot of energy into hating her.

She sounds like an arse.

Cat-Lin is the genuine pronounciation of Caityn though. Kate-Lyn is anglised. Anyone is allowed a pen name/professional name or to adopt a new name.

I still can't stand her though, glad I don't tweet!

Cinnamon - hate is a very strong word. There are few people I hate, there are many people I dislike. Moran piqued my extremities tonight after DH asked if I would like her latest book. Just wondered what others thought.

She gives off the same self-satisfied journalist-turned-novelist vibe as Bill Bryson, although BB is far more intelligent. It takes me about 3/4 of one of his books for me to get annoyed with him!

Not keen on her myself but Cat-Lin is the correct (Irish) pronunciation.

Thought she was a hero on this site! No criticism allowed!

I don't find her as funny as she thinks she is and she has always annoyed me, though probably for unwarranted and basically petty reasons. I did read How to be a Woman and felt it should have been called 'How to be Caitlin Moran'.

BIL bought me her book How to be a Woman or something. I got so bored of reading about how much she masturbated as a teenager I couldn't finish it, even though it was really lightweight.

I don't give a damn how she pronounces her name but it is undeniably true she is indeed some metres up her own arse.

I can't stand her, she comes across as trying too hard and insufferably smug to me.

I'm always a bit Hmm pf people who bang on about their wc regional roots yet shed their accents asap and then talk all posh

I acquiescence the spelling of her name, did't realise it was an Irish pronunciation and didn't realise she had such deep Irish heritage. My bad. (Never has that modern phrase had a more appropriate use - I blame my son!) She is still a Special Snowflake.

She's not really working class (by my way of seeing it, I know people can have different opinions). They were poor because her parents made a lifestyle choice to be hippies.
I agree that she has a high opinion of herself, but if I could make loads of money out of writing about my childhood, I probably would as well.

The gaelic pronounciation is more like Cotchlin. I like her , she makes me laugh but isn't perfect. Is anyone perfect?

I don't understand her popularity

Her first book was funny and she seems quite popular with teenage girls, which has she is a feminist has to be a good thing( even if she is a bit irritating at times)

I like her.

I think she's funny. I liked her book How to be a woman especially her writing about her childhood.

As fur Twitter- meh - it's up to her if she wants to block people, she doesn't have to listen to random strangers.

I don't understand her popularity at all. The cover of 'How to be a Woman' just reminds me of Geri 'Look at me' Haliwell.

I admire her, think her books are funny and her columns are well written. She makes feminism accessible which can only be a good thing.

I think she's great. She's funny and thoughtful. I don't agree with everything she writes but there aren't many people I agree with all the time in any case.
