Anyone hosted foreign students?

Is any of you have hosted foreign students, how did you get them and how long did they stay for? I've looked at the local university website but they need to be housed within a 30 minute walk.

You usually get them from Language schools and sometimes state sixth forms that have places for Overseas students. Usually you have to take them to the language school on the first day to help them with the buses etc. You also have to provide a breakfast and evening meal (and sometimes a packed lunch) you are also expected to converse and generally welcome and help them. How long they stay depends on the course length and your availability.

The pay rates aren't great. Where I live you get more for renting the room to a lodger than what you earn for being a host.

We host for a language school called OISE. Our experience is pretty much the same as misty We get £100 per week for doing sod all really. After the first few days they make friends and most days buy an evening meal in town together before coming home.

Look up your local English language schools and enquire with them, also there are a lot of summer type courses that are run for foreign students so now is a good time to look. I have them from varying amounts of time, from 3 day stays to 3 weeks. The 3 day ones are usually school trips where they visit places of interest and the longer 2-3 week ones are studying.
