Im off shopping on Saturday and I want to get my son some of that paint that he can happily paint away, eat it and all sorts. Does anybody know if somewhere like ELC or Woolies sale it?? Im being a bit lazy really, I dont like shopping much and dont really want to try every shop for it.

ELC sell all sorts of paint, we got our son a pack of 5 'finger pot paint' which I must say I didn't really check it out I just assumed that if it was 'finger' paint it must be alright.....but it might be a good place to start as ELC are normally pretty good with their labelling & advice.

You don't say how old your son is, if hes really little they only need one colour. If you can be bothered, this recipe makes great paint:

Dissolve 1 cup cornflour in a little water.
Add 1 litre boiling water.
Boil until thick. Take off heat and beat in 1 cup soapflakes (not soap powder).

I used to add red food colouring to this and my daughter painted quite happily with it for ages. It washes out too!

We use the ELC finger stuff too and my son has definitely put it in his mouth and is still here to do more painting. I haven't checked if it is non-toxic but I guess my son has!
I don't know how old your son is but we do most of our painting outside as otherwise I am constantly having to watch where the brush goes. He hasn't quite grasped putting it back in the pot and just leaves it/them in random places.
Hope you have fun.

I would definitly go to elc, they go over and above the call of duty, when I was looking for crayons for my daugher that would survive being chewed, the assistant tried to chew one herself, ended up biting off a chunk!!

I'm sure that all the Crayola stuff is fine and Woolies have a good selection, or else the Galt finger paints, but don't know who stocks it?

Thanks everyone, I will pop into ELC on saturday and have a chat with them and thanks Jolly I will try your homemade paint too, seems the best idea if I cant be 100% sure of the shop paints. Also thanks for helping me not to spend all day around the shops, phew.
