Drop off fees charged by nursery - pro rata for PT place?

My 3 yr old has recently started at a day nursery. She attends 2 full days a week. She has been offered a nursery school place at our local primary school, starting in September, which I am keen to accept.

The nursery school session is from 12.15 to 2.45, which means I will need to get the day nursery to drop off and collect her from school (which is 1/2 a mile away) on the 2 days which she attends day nursery.

The nursery has informed me that they charge £300 per year for this service, and that it is the same amount, whether it is a full-time place or a part-time place.

Has anyone else any experience? It seems unfair that a child who requires the service only 2 days a week pays the same as one who does it 5 days a week. The nursery is part of a local chain, which does numerous drop offs & pick ups to local schools.

That does sound unfair - they could have offered to halve it for you.

I suppose their reasoning is that because they take your dd 2 days a week doesn't mean they are going to miraculously find another child that needs to be taken on the other 3 days. And they have to have insurance for every day, not just the days they take your dd.

Local childminder perhaps?

I can see your point, but I think £300 is pretty reasonable for that, as a childminder I would be charging more like £750!

Really? For 2 days? Perhaps £300 isn't so bad after all

Well, if you look at it at £10 a day, which is my minimum charge for taking to school, that's £20 a week x 38 weeks = £760 and then there is collection as well., so I would probably say £15 a day for both trips.
