So - I was about to change nursery - or rather DD was. Smaller, nicer, CHEAPER nursery, where the staff seem to interact more with the children, where I am more confident that they would not give my (then) 9 month old child juice rather than water, close to work, lovely staff, lovely manager....

And I would have had a 2 week break between nurseries and so saved some money

The new nursery have just called and told me that they are closing at the end of August.

I have already handed in notice at the old nursery

I have to say that I am gutted for the staff too - apparently they only found out 3 hours ago. For me it is a nursery place, but for them it is their job

I would be none too chuffed with juice. The place I want ds to go to doesn't do juice full stop (and they look after 2-5 yo's).

Why not see if there is a local childminder who could look after your DD until you have found another nursery. Some childminders are happy to provide short term or long term contracts.

I did have a childminder lined up in Jan - then her OH left her with a 2 week old baby, so she couldn't do CM in April - fair enough.

Most local CMs are full full full

Deep sympathy, Norma - it gets me how parents have to give nurseries 3 months notice but they don't apparently have to give parents the same - we got lucky in as much as DS had just left before the nursery announced they were closing in 4 weeks.

I am sure you can retract your notice with the old one - far from ideal though it sounds - and then start the hunt again, I guess...poor you (and poor staff, of course)

Thing is - the nursery has been running for years - my friends child went there - oh- 7 years ago...

so why is it closing now!

i am going to ring them tomorrow and find out where the other children are going to go...
