Questions on Nursery Form

Hi, thinking about sending my daughter to nursery soon and just wondering what sort of questions nurseries ask to aid settling in? Do they want to know the child's volcabulary, best ways to stop them crying etc etc? What did yours ask? Hoping it's common practice to get a lot of info so their care is quite individualised.

Ours didn't ask any of that really, just who they live with and any allergies.

Mine did, had 8 page booklet to fill in! Lots of the questions didn't make much sense when they first started: "Favourite activities - er, trying to crawl, waving at shiny things, chewing things", "favourite people - anyone cuddling me at the time" but yes the more info they have, the better. More important when they went into the Toddler or Pre-school rooms.

Though having a chat with the room leader or key worker would have done just as well, probably.

They get to know your kid through talking to you during settling sessions and actually spending time with your kid, rather than details on a form. Kids change so quickly.

Remember that what works at home, and how your child behaves at home, can be quite different from nursery. DS1 definitely had a 'nursery self' and 'home self'.

We wrote down vague routines (totally irrelevant, they were very different when at nursery!), foods they'd tried when under 12 months, allergies etc.

Tbh we wrote down a hell of a lot more for DS1 starting school, which probably reflects the fact that nursery staff have more capacity to get to know the children as individuals.

We had a form with lots of pages asking that kind of thing, ability level in terms of dressing, toileting. As well as favourite toys, activities who'll pick them up etc.
