How do i put DS name down for Nursery?

It is my DS 2nd Birthday tomorrow (today!) and i need to go and put his name down in the nursery down the road. How do i do this? surely they dont just let people show up and come in? if they do im not sure i want him to go there!

he wont be with me by the way, hes with his dad.

So do i just turn up and they will have to believe that i even have a child? do i need to take his birth certificate or ID of my own?

Also - when will he actually start?

I live in Edinburgh, dont know if it makes a difference.

Thanks

How are you?

Call the nursery or just turn up. There will be a reception for such things I would imagine you might have to take ID, doesn't hurt to bring it along. Nurserys usually start September and January (the one's i've looked into anyway)

Hi Quootie,

Feeling alright i suppose..

thanks for that. I dont think there is a reception, im not sure. I guess ill just go and knock on the door and see what happens! i dont want them to think i am some crazy woman turning up asking to look around a nursery without a kid!

Ill take his and my passports. that should do? although we have different surnames so still might look a bit suss!

Ill let you know if they call the police on me!

Try phoning them first. Might be able to do it over the phone? OR arrange a time to go down as im sure there will be forms xXx

I would just give them a call and say you are wanting to enrol your son. Then ask them what the procedure is to do that. They may send you some info or make an appt for you to come and check the place out and do paperwork then.

i wouls just turn up. that's what i've always done and it's what my friend who works in a nursery has told me to do. she says if you have an appointment they will know when you are coming and will make sure everything looks perfect. if you just turn up you get to see what it is really like. just don't go at home time, lunch time etc.

Just for anyone that reads this and wonders..

I went down with DS today, and went to the nursery. Noone came over to tell me what to do, so we asked a woman who was collecting her kids. She told us to go to main school building.

Went there, filled out a form. That was it.

Should i be concerned that i just walked into the nursery??!

what you just walked right in where all the kids were? did they not have a intercom entry system or anything?

There was an intercom system, but the door was open. I pukked the handle and it opened, and i ust walked right in.

maybe i shouldn't send DS there after all?

i'd be very concerned. what was to stop a child walking out? as well as there being the risk of someone just walking in off the street.
