Nurseries

additional needs, higher ratios?

We went to see a nursery in a children's centre for dd2. The facilities are superb and we really liked it.

In the preschool room there were a lot of children with obvious additional needs (both physical and otherwise, I'm not sure if this is related to it being a children's centre?) and I was wondering if this means they would have higher staff ratios? It seems like a big ask of the staff otherwise.

The child's needs would be assessed and if necessary 1-1 support in place. we have a child with fairly complex needs in one of our rooms, we have a 1-1 for him (that wouldn't be obvious to others).
Did they seem like they were coping?

My sons nursery has 1:1 for some with special needs.

It just seemed like the weren't many adults around for the high needs of some of the children. Maybe that's because they were elsewhere when we were doing the tour. I really liked the nursery, just not sure about the preschool room.

Go back for another tour, ask about staff ratios, observe for a while. Obviously they will not be able to say, we have a 1-1 for those children, but you should be able to gauge it.
