Wahey after a few stutters and stalls it is possible that I will be opening a nursery.
So far the plan is to open in Sept 07
Portacabin/modular building/temporary structure ? for ease of description I will call this our ?building?
Our building will need:
· Electricity - separate metering
· Drains possibly maintenance as part of the rent or as a service charge
· Water ? Separate metering
· Telephone line ? above or below ground?
· Post box/address ? by main gate? On building? On gate by village hall?
· Planning Permission ? this is agricultural land ? may not be possible. Initial discussions with planning suggest that this would not be ideal.
· Outside play area (enclosed) ? Grounds maintenance (e.g. grass cutting) part of the rent or as a service charge
· Landscape gardening (incl Large trees/shading/outdoor toys/living fence)
· Staff room Adult/disabled toilet
· Children?s toilets and nappy changing (incl boys & girls separate)
· Kitchen?
· Under 2 room
· Under 3 room (or combined with the under 2 room and separate)
· 3-5 room
· Space for out of school club? ? Possibly used by school if needed?
The outside play area should be a similar size, fenced (around 1.2m (4ft) high) and significantly shaded.
Day care for up to 6 children under 2 (requiring 3.5m2 each needing 21 m2 and 2 staff) ? this would be in one room, with a sleeping area off to the side.
Day care for up to 8 children 2 to 3 (requiring 2.5 m2 each needing 20 m2 and 2 staff) ? I am still involved in research as to whether these children would be in a separate room or part of the 3-5 room.
Day care for up to 12 children 3 to 5 (assuming 6 starting the term after their 3rd Birthday and 6 in the year above) ? with sessional care for 6 in the morning and 6 in the afternoon (requiring 2.3 m2 each needing 27.6 m2 and 1.5 staff)
Sessional care for up to 8 children (4 in the morning and 4 in the afternoon) (assuming 4 starting the term after their 3rd Birthday and 4 in the year above) (requiring 2.3 m2 each needing 18.4 m2 and 0.5 staff)
There is also the issue of reception children who attend for mornings only and they would need to be accommodated in the building ? the ratio is 1:8 for this age children.
Finally it would make sense to run the before and after school club and holiday play scheme actually at the school (rather than at my house). So there would need to be space for these children, potentially higher than the 6 places I can currently accommodate (especially if the school gets bigger). Hopefully this would combine with the rising 5?s from reception and would leave a room which the school could use sometimes (if you want?)
This gives a staffing level of about 6 for the nursery, maybe extra for the afternoons for the reception children and out of school club. There would also need to be an admin person/catering/cleaning.
It is however unlikely that we could get to full capacity in a short time. It is more likely that we will run at less than half capacity for at least 2 years. This would (probably) mean that reception classes would not increase in 2007 or even 2008.
