Caught a toddler with anti-bac spray today

I am a little unsure of what to do, when dropping my daughter off today another child approached me as I was kneeling on the floor and I noticed she had the spray in her mouth - spray pointing in.

The main key worker was in the back room changing a nappy, the other main member of staff normally in was off sick so there was another girl I haven't seen before. She was sitting on the other side of the room not really doing anything. I work with children and I just said to the child 'I don't think you really want that do you?' and gently took it out of her hands, this was more a natural reaction and I did it without really thinking. I then passed it to the girl in the room. I have been pondering it all afternoon at work and re-thinking whether I did the right thing, should I have made the girl known to the key worker, should I have just let them deal with it? I am a worrier and would have hated to have my daughter be in that situation.

Nothing was said when I went to pick up tonight so do I just let it go as one of those things that happens? Any thoughts welcome...

That's ridiculous. The child shouldn't have access to that nor should it have gone un-noticed. If the lid came off and she swallowed it or the spray she could choke or in all probability be sick. If she got in her eye or anybody elses it would be very, very painful. Speak to the manager tomorrow. Explain you were shocked by this and want to know how a recurrence will be prevented. Make sure you're happy with the answer.

That is what I was thinking but I wanted to make sure I wasn't over-reacting or making too much of something.

If it was an alcohol based one it can be dangerous, they're about 60% alcohol so I would probably mention it to the nursery management.

Of this happened at my dd nursery I think I would have a chat with nursery manager. Make her aware.

Mention it to the manager. It shouldn't happen. Be matter of fact about it and state what you saw like you have written out down here. If the manager is good then she won't get defensive. Thank goodness you saw what happened and removed the spray.

What would you have done if it's ad been your child with the spray? The answer to that question is what you should do.

*if it had. Bloody auto correct.

You did the right thing.
I'd mention it to the manager tho - factual, as above.
And see what they are going to do about preventing it reoccurring.

Just think how mortified you'd have been if while you were talking to the member of staff, the girl actually swallowed some cleaning material?

Awful, if its a good nursery the manager will already know when you speak to her and already have it sorted.

or she will be very cross and will be keen to sort it
