Hi can anyone help me my DS 7months is going to nursery soon they said they would tell me what I needed on his trial day (which is the day before he starts). I just want to be prepared and get some bits ready before I go back to work. Can you tell me what you have given to the nursery or take with you everyday. (nursery provides nappies and wipes)
If nursery are providing nappies and wipes then you will probably need to supply nappy cream if needed and any milk formula. They tend to keep these and let you know when supplies are running low. On a daily basis then you'd ned to take in a couple of changes of clothes, and possibly sterilised bottles if nursery don't clean them for you.
Do you have any shorter "settling in" sessions before the trial day? Might be worth asking if they can do this to get him used to the staff and surroundings before going in at the deep end. I'm currently doing the same with my 4 month old DD who is refusing to take a bottle at the moment, so we need all the trials we can get!
At my DSs nursery all he needed to take was a fully labelled/named change of clothes , 2 if they are young. Coat, scarf, hat & gloves and once they are big enough wellies. Everything else was provided. We did take in a potty to match the one at home as he didn't get on with the nursery ones. However my friends DC went to a nursery where they needed to provide bottles, formula, nappy cream, nappies, clothes, etc etc.
A change of clothes - all named in case of accident. I also have an extra jumper in case she is going outside to play. At 7 months, won't need indoor shoes but maybe socks with grips on them - I buy mine in Primark but you get them in gap and next too. I'd get heaps of labels for clothes, snack pots (if they dont provide snacks) I tend to have certain clothes that dd wears to nursery - dark coloured, cheap and not fiddly. That way I didn't need to name everything in her wardrobe. If they have a sleep aid - like a glow worm or teddy - think about getting one to leave at nursery so there is less to trail back and fore or forget.
Full change of clothes (x2) to be sure. Coat, hat, gloves, Wellies (although not necessary for a 7 month old), sunglasses. We always put a tiny sudocrem and a bonjela in his bag side pocket. His favourite teddy (or comforter).
Sometimes a muslin smelling of mum, or dad can help a little one sleep in the unfamiliar setting of a new nursery!
Does your child sleep in a sleep bag/ or have a certain blanket? We suggest that parents bring in these to help them sleep, although we do provide a wide range of blankets.
A written copy of your child's routine detailing sleep times, how long, how e.g back/side/tummy, dummy? teddy? e.t.c, what kind of food they eat, what texture, any food allergies, intolerances or requirements, what toys they like to play with, how much milk they drink, when they drink it and what temp. And any other relative information.
You may need to provide bibs as well, bowl, spoons, bottle, plates.
