On the last day before Xmas break they are having a Xmas cards day. I've been told it means children exchange cards with their friends. DS started the nursery in October for 2 days a week with very little spoken English. He didn't do any form of childcare and our families are abroad so he wasnt used to so many kids but he seem to be enjoying it. He is going to be 3 in a couple of months. Anyway, what I am trying to explain he is not likely to get any cards as he doesn't mention any friends and nursery workers can't identify them either as he joins in, plays alone a lot and his English is not good enough for older children in the group. Now, it might not bother him too much but I think he would understand that while everybody will gave some cards at the end of the day he won't. I am thinking of sending him with 4 cards for children that have been kind to him and 1 or 2 cards from "friends he will make" written by me with instructions to give them to him if he won't get cards from other children. Do you think it's silly?
Have not gave. Writing from phone.
Most nurseries will give you a list of all the chidren in the room. Most parents write cards to all the children on the list. That way nobody feels left out.
I would imagine he will get cards from most of the children on nursery
Most nurseries will give out a list of names that attend the nursery for cards to be made out
I'd get some cheap cards, and wait for next week or so
I'm sure your ds will start receiving cards, and you can ask for the list of names
I did ask his key worker what happens on the day and was told they exchange cards only with their friends. It's then that I asked to whom I should write cards and was told he doesn't have friends but plays sometimes with another boy. I also saw some girls hugging him and trying to communicate with him. I want given a list of names.
In DDs nursery, they gave me a list of her little friends. She is only 20mo and doesn't actually speak! How about raising your concern with the key worker? I assume other parents go by the list the nursery supplies, so his key worker can just add his name on her other chargers? I'm sure no one wants a child to miss out on this.
Oh saw your last reply about his key worker. It sounds like a crap nursery tbh. From other posters it seems its the norm they will give a list so everyone gets cards from someone.
I'm in the same dilemma. I have received the xmas card list, with 30 children's names in it.
What should I do? Should I prepare 30 cards for my child to give to everyone, including all the teachers?
Thank you.
If you have a list, it sounds like everyone will give cards to everyone - so i would write them for the whole class (and teachers if you want to).
OP, your nursery sound a bit rubbish - you'd think the nursery workers could have given you some names! With children that young, I wouldn't expect them to remember many names of their classmates, so the nursery should help out by giving lists or at least letting you know the names of a few people he plays with.
Update: Decided to call the manager today to check what I am supposed to do. She told me to bring the number of cards that equals the number of kids on the day the exchange is going to be, write "from DS" and they will fill in the names. I think the key worker is rubbish, tbh. She saw nothing wrong with DS not having any friends and not getting any cards.
@ NatashaBee : Thanks a lot for your explanation.
May I ask if one of the parents are supposed to attend this event? Normally we have to go to work, but I don't know if you really need to be there on that day.
Thank you.
