does your nursery have a 3 month notice period?

we are switching dd to a local nursery where you have to give 3 months notice before you pull yr child out? I think this is very long, bearing in mind we hardly know what we are doing from month to month. How common is a 3 month notice period, and how do people cope with it?

I think DS's has a 2 month notice period - we had to give that much notice for changing his days anyway.

the problem with 3 months is, for example, if we found the perfect nanny share, we may want to take her out altogether. but the nannyshare would not wait 3 months for us to do that. also; if dd simply doesn't take to the nursery. i think there has to be a bit more flexibility within any child care arrangement

her current nursery only asks for 1 month notice, but it is a big impersonal place in the middle of London, which is why we are transferring to a local one where she can make a few local friends

Three months seems way too long. As most adults only have to give one month to leave a job you wouldn't expect tolddlers to have to serve more notice! One month seems to be the norm, but there are no hard and fast rules. You can cross that part off your terms and conditions and explain that you are happier with one month's notice and if they agree ask them to write it in and initial it (by both). Have never heard of a mum and dad being sued for breaking a nursery contract before, and you can pull your child out at any time and the most you can lose is your deposit if you haven't given them an agreed amount of notice.
