R u sure it's a cover? Wikipedia entry for "Sweet Home Alabama" says this (my emphasis):-

"Kid Rock's 2007 song "All Summer Long" samples "Sweet Home Alabama" on the chorus and uses the guitar solo and piano outro;... "All Summer Long" also samples Warren Zevon's "Werewolves of London," which has an identical chord progression to "Sweet Home Alabama." ".

Anyway, there is absolutely nothing wrong with covers. It's the note-for-note remakes I can't stand.
