My favourite bit in the show was the burlesque ladies. Hilarious. I'm going to record it and watch in peace tomorrow morning. Way too noisy in my front room this evening to properly focus. Oh, god though, Mama Rose's final song- a little too close to the bone for me to comfortably listen to, as a stage mum. I cried at the theatre- snot and a red face from trying not to sob out loud. Luckily I was not the only one....

I've missed the first ten minutes and have never seen it before - have I missed anything vital to the plot?

Fantastic.
Imelda Staunton is wonderful

Katymac · 27/12/2015 21:12

No, Mother (Rose - had 3 husbands) puts both daughters on the stage

Not really, the first scene is showing the girls, June and Louise auditioning for an kiddie vaudeville show with little success desire their pushy mother.

I'm recording it as I'm pooped and want to enjoy it properly when feeling awake

hoping Lara Pulver is in this, have I got that right? I love Imelda S too.

That was superb

Savagebeauty · 27/12/2015 23:19

Wasn't it?
I wish they'd do it with more shows

Report
balletgirlmum · 28/12/2015 00:16

Absolutely. They filmed Legally Blonde on Broadway & of course there was Billy Elliot Live but they should do it more.

It's made DD decide on DT rather than MT as she can't sing that well Sad

I didn't see the broadcast, but I saw it during the run at the Savoy and - despite being a massive Imelda Staunton fan, and thinking she was very good - I didn't much care for it, rather to my own surprise. I think I'd expected it to be more Sondheim-y, despite knowing he only wrote the lyrics, not the music. I thought Peter Davison (Davidson?) was adequate and I didn't think Lara Pulver was good as Louise, which left it a one-woman show for me, and I found it a bit brassy and one-dimensional. I didn't leave inwardly humming tune for days, and having to look up the lyrics because I was annoying myself half-remembering....

Katymac, remember the voice is like any other muscle- the more you practise the better you get. Plenty of time to exercise that muscle. Your DD will grace the west end stage in a big role- I'll put money on it!

Do you think - she has certainly worked hard enough (....new photos on my profile Wink)

It's not her decision anyway - the college decide based on ability

Casta - I felt a bit that way, it was amazing and impressive and I was blown away but I've connected with other musicals more
