I want to teach myself to play the keyboard. Any tips?

I could do with getting a teacher, but no money in the pot. Does anyone know of any particularly good youtube channels, books etc?

I'm a bit bamboozled at the moment and don't know where to start. Scales, I'm guessing? I never played any instruments so going into this blind!

I used the "It's Never too Late to Learn" adult piano tutor books. I could already read music but they worked equally well when I used them to teach my dd at about age 10 and she was starting from the beginning.

Lots of stuff on youtube and certainly enough to get you started. Lots of different styles and approaches so I would just type in learn to play piano and play around till you find someone that appeals.

In the long term you do need to play scales to progress but first I would concentrate on learning some tunes to get your confidence going.

I didn't start learning properly till I was 40 and I find playing and learning very rewarding. My first instrument is the violin but I find it a bit frustrating at the moment as I do not really have enough time to practise to my ability.

What sort of Keyboard is it, and do you want to learn 'Keyboard style' or 'Piano style'? The black and white keys LOOK exactly the same, but the playing and learning styles are TOTALLY DIFFERENT.

My dd has taught herself by picking a song she wants to play and then looking up lessons for that song on YouTube.
