Welcome to the Mumsnet Musical Theatre thread.

Pull up a sequinned pouffe, get cosy with a porn star martini, kick off those character shoes, take off the wig and let out your inner Bernadette Peters.

This is a thread for lovers of musical theatre, whether watching or participating in it. Anything Goes here so to speak...

I'll kick off by saying that in the last week I saw The Book of Mormon and sob, Merrily We Roll Along. Both excellent in completely different ways.

Anyone else? smile

We are watching Thoroughly Modern Millie - DD is completely enthralled!

showtunesgirl Mon 05-Aug-13 00:05:06

Just popping in to say, if you can go see Titanic at Southwark Playhouse, please do. It's a great show, great cast and sharp direction. I can highly recommend it.

I was so pleased it was good as I've been a fan of the show for many years and know the show by heart.

If you don't know the show, then do get the album as it has a great score.

showtunesgirl Wed 31-Jul-13 10:24:33

Aw, she'll have a great time! smile

KatyMac Wed 31-Jul-13 06:56:38

Nope it's in Finchley now

Right by her aunt & uncles

Still so excited

showtunesgirl Tue 30-Jul-13 23:50:32

Well done KatyMac's DD!

Is the studio still based in King's Cross? I used to go there many moons ago before the Eurostar landed there and all the unsavoury types got scattered. It used to be really dodgy round there but it's all gone posh now!

KatyMac Tue 30-Jul-13 21:28:49

DD has just taken another steps towards being in Musical Theatre; she just got a place on London Studio Centre's Associate Scheme

I am so proud of her as she auditioned by DVD rather than in person & I think that is harder (of course I might be wrong)

She starts Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary & Singing there in September........I feel like singing "Follow the yellow brick road"

Embarrassing aren't I?

Oooh! Fab! Thank you!

SorrelForbes Sun 28-Jul-13 22:11:25

Great news, I'll definitely download it.

showtunesgirl Sun 28-Jul-13 21:47:30

Aww, I bet you're glad to get him back schilke.

And now that the news is everywhere I guess I can say that Merrily will be available as a digital download.

bluesky Sun 28-Jul-13 21:43:11

Sorrel, We really enjoyed Barnum last week, I love Chichester productions.

schilke Bosnia-Herzegovina Sun 28-Jul-13 21:26:46

Dh very sad merrily has finished. I'm secretly relieved he's going to be around in the evenings!

SorrelForbes Sun 28-Jul-13 11:24:15

Show. Sounds an amazing last night.

Dithering over which show to see next. Was intending to trek down to Chichester with my DM to see Barnum but the online buzz is that it's really not great. I think I'll take DH and the DSC to see Book of Mormon and DM and I can go and see down thing else, maybe a play for a change.

I want to see Pippin again sad

SorrelForbes Sun 28-Jul-13 11:21:48

Ooh yes, there are some good roles in Fat Sam's and Dandy Dan's gangs! Or the Speakeasy dancers? It's. a lovely show, she'll have a blast (and a splurge!)

KatyMac Sun 28-Jul-13 11:17:12

She has worked out there are bound to be more girls that boys - so she can go for something good, maybe a boxer or a gangster

She doesn't want a lead - but she does want to do something plus she will be one of the oldest

showtunesgirl Sun 28-Jul-13 10:33:26

post, the cast were definitely very emotional during Good Thing Going. I think it's the lyrics: going, going, gone that got them!

KatyMac, just remind your DD that a musical is made up of more than the main parts! smile

KatyMac Sun 28-Jul-13 06:57:58

DD is doing Bugsy Malone next week; if ever there was a musical without a part for her...........She's no Tallulah & she'd never make a Blousey Brown sad

post Sun 28-Jul-13 00:36:21

Oh, I was wondering if anyone had gone to the last night, that's what I clicked on the thread to see!
How about during the show? Any 'moments' or just in the curtain call?
I LOVED it; saw it 3 times, twice with ds(16) and dd(9) who both insisted they wanted to see it again more than seeing anything else!

showtunesgirl Sat 27-Jul-13 23:00:58

Just on the train home after watching the last Merrily. What an amazing show.

We were sat towards the back of the stals this time round, last time we were in the front row. It was so interesting to see it from the different perspectives.

There were many tears shed by the cast during their curtain call and much cheering for Maria Friedman who was in the Dress Circle.

The next show I'm seeing is Titanic, on at the Southwark Playhouse. On the night I'm seeing it, Maury Yeston is being interviewed after the show by Mark Shenton. I'm VERY excited!

LadyBryan Tue 23-Jul-13 12:30:43

Ooops, too soon. Thanks for the welcome!

LadyBryan Tue 23-Jul-13 12:30:18

He's called Tim Walton. Various West End roles, Phantom in LND.

showtunesgirl Tue 23-Jul-13 12:09:22

Who is your idol? And welcome!

LadyBryan Tue 23-Jul-13 11:58:35

I'm so excited to see this thread! I adore Musical Theatre.

I do am dram in a G&S Society at the moment, having come back into it fairly late, but singing solos in the concert I'm producing in Autumn.

I saw my absolute idol in London in May - it was utterly amazing. I was a bit star struck but managed a picture and a chat and he was utterly lovely smile

My favourite film musical is Slipper and the Rose, favourite on stage is either Phantom or Miss Saigon.

My first love is G&S though.

showtunesgirl Tue 23-Jul-13 11:09:02

Anyone else singing The Circle of Life this morning and hoping that Wills holds the new baby aloft Simba stylee? grin

SorrelForbes Sun 14-Jul-13 11:02:26

Very sad indeed.

showtunesgirl Sun 14-Jul-13 10:48:14

There are quite a lot of deals on at the mo for Merrily. I am going again on the last night.

And isn't it sad about the Glee news? www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-23304609 sad
