Every Xmas and birthday I get my partner a cd that he normally wouldn't think to get, it's just a way to get to know different bands.
This year I'm running out of ideas.
Any suggestions, his favourite band is Led zeppelin but he also likes quite folky rock too.
Last year I bought Edgar Broughton Band and
he loved it.
He doesn't like music of the noughties,
Help!

I like it all really but I think Can will be the first one I get, then ill keep the others in mind for future birthdays and Xmas.
Thanks all for your help smile

Legendary Pink Dots? I saw them supporting Arthur Brown a couple of years ago, they put me in mind of Hawkwind.

I'm considering Hawkwind too.
My Dp loves Tim Buckley, not very rocky but good. If anyone has anything along the same lines to recommend...

I would get the Can album Tago Mago to start.

Does he have any Nick Drake? If not, he really, really should- in a similar vein to Tim Buckley, but, well, far better IMO.

There is a film made in 1970 called London Rock which he would enjoy- T Rex, The Faces (does he have any Faces stuff?) and Fairport Convention all feature... can't find it on DVD though. Will have another look.

What does your DH like, dita?

usualsuspect3 Thu 15-Nov-12 17:46:09

Fear by John Cale.

Fantastic album

usualsuspect3 Thu 15-Nov-12 17:50:57

The sensational Alex Harvey Band.

If he likes Edgar Broughton Band, try a bit of Budgie brilliance. Not really obscure, but nowhere near as big as they should've been.

Also, Tygers Of Pan Tang

Oooh, good call on The sensational Alex Harvey Band, usual.

Any Good? smile

I love Tim Buckley, his voice is wonderful. If he hasn't already got it then you should get him Jackson C Frank's eponymous album, he only released one but he's been covered by loads of artists including Nick Drake and Paul Simon

Must recommend 'Head Down' by Rival Sons - a current band from L.A. who sound a bit like Free, with some motown thrown in, difficult to describe really, but very excellent smile
