Obscure 1960's-70's rock bands

Every Xmas and birthday I get my partner a cd that he normally wouldn't think to get, it's just a way to get to know different bands.
This year I'm running out of ideas.
Any suggestions, his favourite band is Led zeppelin but he also likes quite folky rock too.
Last year I bought Edgar Broughton Band and
he loved it.
He doesn't like music of the noughties,
Help!

Have you ever heard of Pavlov's Dog? I used to love them and their album "At the sound of the bell" I think was the first album to feature an early synthesiser

They also had another album called Pampered Menial.

I don't think so, think male but high. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pavlov's_Dog_(band)

Mark Knopfler (ex Dire Straits) has gone quite folky now, don't know what his latest stuff is like.

If he likes Folk Rock this is my thread!
What about The Band's greatest hits.
Creedence Clearwater Revival's Greatest Hits.
Captain Beefheart.

He should have a listen to the Raconteurs second album Consolers of The Lonely - some ace Folky rock stuff on that, even though it's modern.

Wishbone Ash - Argos, i think it's called. Not to be confused with the store! Or is it Argus. Hmm

King Crimson. (embarassed smilie)
Trying to think of bands like Led Zep....hmm.
Deep Purple?

Second Captain Beefheart, but I suspect what he really needs is some Can.

Also try The Incredible String Band. And fuck it, try some Jethro Tull- but tread carefully. Aqualung is a good album to start with.

Fairport Convention.

I'm guessing he already has a copy of Love's Forever Changes? As an old hippy myself it's one of my most favourite records ever

White Demin are brilliant. Might be worth getting the album with All you really have to do on it.

Also band called Deer Tick - perfect. Singer sounds like a tuneful Dylan.
This is a good album he might like

I second Jethro Tull too. I've got Original Masters, i think it's called.

I'll second The Incredible String Band (Wee Tam and the Big Huge), or some early Floyd

Out there, man!

Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden. It doesn't quite fit the criteria you've asked for but I guarantee he'll love it. Everyone I know who likes the bands already mentioned does.

I disagree with White Denim. I bought Workout Holiday.

Bored me shitless, it did.

Ooooh, I know!

Have a look at a Swedish band called Dungen. As for albums, I'd get either Ta det lungt or Tio Bitar.

I guarantee he will love them.
