(250 Posts)
AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 26-Jun-13 09:51:02

Here at MNHQ, it's census time again! smile

It's essential for us to build a profile of the folks who use Mumsnet, to help us attract the most appropriate advertisers and sponsors as well as find out how folks feel about the site.

So we would very much like everyone (this means ALL Mumsnetters! Newbies, oldies, in-betweeners, lurkers, regulars, overseas MNers, even men smile) to complete our census. This is our fourth census survey - we've taken to running them every two years and would like as many of you as possible to complete it.

As a special thank you we have lined up some lovely prizes - everyone who takes part in the survey and who adds their details at the end will be entered into a prize draw where you could win one the following:

~ Family ticket to sportsFest worth £800 - PRIZE DRAW NOW DONE
~ A YouView box worth £299
~ A Mothercare/ ELC £150 voucher
~ George Foreman grill worth £89.99
~ A Dyson DC34 worth £179.99
~ One of two National Trust family admission pass worth £32
~ One of three £50 Dermasalve hampers from Skin Salveation
~ A bumper pack of the new 330ml sparklers from Cawston Press worth £54
or even a stack of books from the towers shelves (worth £100ish)

For more details and T&Cs please click here

Please note as we're so very nosey about you there are about 50 (fascinating) questions but we'd very grateful for each and every response.

Here's the link:

All responses are confidential and no individual details will be passed on to any third parties.

Thanks (and good luck).

I'm in!

rootypig Wed 26-Jun-13 13:50:33

Hi, q17 - I have an ipad and access MN with it, but not via an app - I prefer just to stick to my browser. No possible answer to reflect that.

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 26-Jun-13 14:00:53

rootypig - there is - you'd tick never, do have device but don't access mn via it (which you did tick!) - I have tweaked it a bit though to make it clearer - thanks.

Tigglette Wed 26-Jun-13 14:09:40

Done, I would have liked to see "going through the adoption process" as an option for question 6 - I'm not TTC but I do still hope to become a mum :-)

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 26-Jun-13 14:30:57

Tigglette - good point - bit tricky for me to tweak that Q now. Sorry.

It's not working very well on my phone (it's Android, but don't worry it's probably my screen!) So will yet again later.

I can't believe how much has changed for us since last time!

Done. I think..

Done, does Somerfield still exist confused?

No box for 'not even understanding what an app is' grin.

Lomaamina Wed 26-Jun-13 15:44:31

Done. Although I didn't get confirmation that it had registered, just a bounce back to the home page.

n.b. the question about blogs threw me as I have a work-related blog and I'm not sure it falls into the category (which I'm guessing is more about personal blogs. I ticked 'other' and put it there.

piratecat Wed 26-Jun-13 15:49:55

all done

But, I didn't know how to answer the "What kinda job does the main wage earner have?" because it's beyond me working it out.

I did write a brief massive description in the other box so you can work it out.

Galena Wed 26-Jun-13 16:44:08

I'm struggling with this on my Android phone - ticking boxes is fine but if I try to add text in a box the whole survey goes blank. confused

Your politics question on how I choose how to vote for didn't have a "constitutional matters" option. So I had to tick "none of these". I vote on the basis of which party agrees with my views on Scottish independence.

MalenkyRusskyDrakonchik Thu 27-Jun-13 15:58:13

Done, but you didn't include 'women's issues' in the reasons for voting for a particular party, which I found a bit odd since this is a woman-dominated site.

Done. Can't win prizes as not in uk <sad face> but happy to help

DameFanny Thu 27-Jun-13 17:01:14

Done, but not convinced it submitted...

There is no hope for me.

moggle Thu 27-Jun-13 17:37:50

should there be a final confirmation screen? when I clicked done it just went to the online surveys page, is that right? (not that i can be bothered to do it again if it isn't!)

And yes it just goes to our insight page at the end - a chance to check out other threads and chances to win whilst you're there (and lots of chances to win!)

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 27-Jun-13 20:58:56

Blatherskite - how many have you done then? This is the 3rd one I've worked on.....

Meglet Thu 27-Jun-13 21:05:32

GoldieMumbles Thu 27-Jun-13 21:12:04

Done it - whizzed through quite easily. One thing, though - in several of the questions there's an option 'None - not in the UK'. Particularly when asking about magazines or newspapers and radio stations, they're available online to those of us, like me, who are outside of Britain. Even the clothes shopping I do in the UK quite frequently as I'm back there 3 or so times per year!

Took ages so I better win I never win

themaltesecat Thu 27-Jun-13 22:05:16

Done. A bit of a faff if you don't own an android and still have to answer a lot of questions about apps.

Bringmewineandcake Thu 27-Jun-13 22:06:45

Q9, I'd really like to show that I am in part time paid employment AND part time self-employed, but the radio buttons don't allow. Recommendations? Go for other? Other won't show up as well in analysis.

Fingers crossed now.

Wonderstuff Fri 28-Jun-13 00:22:43

Done. I never know where to put myself on the social category thing. I'm a middle management teacher, should I be in the second category or the top?

DeepRedBetty Fri 28-Jun-13 09:13:45

You know it asked if I'd ever clicked on any ads? Well, yes, but only by accident.

Also I may be a member of FB and Twitter, but I hardly ever use either except to advertise our business, and I don't 'do' Like/Recommend for anything, even you lovely lovely people.

ShaggingZumbaStylee Fri 28-Jun-13 09:32:23

mrsdinklage Fri 28-Jun-13 09:58:26

Done - then I thought of an improvement. So I'll put it here instead - why can't the Add your message only come at the end of the thread instead at the end of each page then I wouldn't look so stupid by saying something that has already been said ten times blush

Isitme1 Fri 28-Jun-13 10:30:42

Done--would love the mother care voucher. Baby no.2 due any day and would come in very handy--
Ps well done

Portofino Fri 28-Jun-13 12:00:44

The Non UK thing is a bit skewed. I don't shop in UK but DO read Newspapers and vote - though was asked to skip those sections but not the shops and magazine part.

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Fri 28-Jun-13 12:51:21

portofino - sorry - I guess most folks not in UK can't vote here and we didn't want to annoy just to answer all questions if you can/ want to wink as applicable.

mrsdinklage - are you on a pc/ laptop? if so you can click 'add message' on the line by each poster
eg your post says
mrsdinklage Fri 28-Jun-13 09:58:26 Add message | Report | Message poster | Quote

mrsdinklage Fri 28-Jun-13 14:05:56

yep - the problem is - add message appears at the bottom of each page - if it was just at the end of the thread I wouldn't post before reading the whole of the thread blush

BoreOfWhabylon Fri 28-Jun-13 15:27:03

Done. Am terminally boring.

AmandaPandtheTantrumofDoom Fri 28-Jun-13 15:28:38

Oooh MNHQ. I'm only on question 6 and I'm stuck. Can we have a box for 'no I'm not pregnant but we can't seem to decide whether to TTC again and have been debating it for months'. Based on the number of threads I've seen on this topic, I think you'd have quite a high response rate grin

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Fri 28-Jun-13 16:24:01

grin amanda....

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Fri 28-Jun-13 16:24:32

I get you now mrsdinklage...

AmandaPandtheTantrumofDoom Fri 28-Jun-13 16:35:51

Mrsdlinkage - are you on a pc/laptop or a phone? If you're on a computer, you can change your settings to show the whole thread as a single page. Stops you not at least scrolling past everything, and if you highlight the OP (I like a fetching shade of green) you can see at a glance every time they've updated.

stickchildren3 Fri 28-Jun-13 16:41:37

done, but mn went offline just after I'd confirmed I'd finished. Did it work?

helenthemadex Fri 28-Jun-13 23:56:47

Finally done, HQ, does it matter that the email I put isn't the one I'm registered on MN with? Just realised I've done this on a couple of these lately.

amazingmumof6 Sun 30-Jun-13 06:38:48

I've just realised I'm a bit addicted to MN.
someone brought it to my attention that I've been most prolific poster.again. I'm honestly not trying to be.
but DD is still a velcro baby so when I have to sit and hold her and can't do anything else I post on MN
or watch tv.

very sad really.

I did ask MNHQ about [choc] or [cake] again. and to have a "like" option for a post and /or thread.
I hope they will consider both.
[choc] should be priority!

maybe I should send them more gin?grin

amazingmumof6 Sun 30-Jun-13 06:44:01

btw I don't even want to win a prize. our house is officially full.
unless I can have cash I'm not interested in a grill etc.

amazingmumof6 Sun 30-Jun-13 06:45:27

oh actually I'd be happy with Mothercare voucher.
that would be useful. smile

Done. Didn't see the option of "taxes" in the political voting question. Had to tick economy which isn't quite the same.

just to add having seen a few other comments - i too found the choices as to what governs your vote very limited and non representative for me. but that may be more about our political arena and rhetoric than the survey. i guess i'd want to see 'ethics' there. i think some of us are ethical voters and yes the equality/poverty one (can't remember what it was now) one vaguely fits but it goes wider than that. it's a sense that they're not just corrupt little business boys after their cut of the spoils that would guide me if it didn't feel like that is actually what all of the parties are now sad <@ feeling so cynical

Lepreporn Sun 30-Jun-13 09:15:27

Done !

mikkii Sun 30-Jun-13 14:54:08

I've done it, but taxation policy wasn't an option for reason for choosing political party. Since one or two of the parties figure I only studied hard and work to fund their benefits choices, that makes a difference to me.

purplemurple1 Sun 30-Jun-13 20:20:17

I've had IVF and probably won't ever conceive naturally. I'm not using contraception but I'm not <trying> iykwim.

I've had to tick the 'not trying to get pregnant' box.

Hi YourHandInMyHand - it seems that somewhere along the line you've been unsubscribed to those newsletters. We've re-jig it now, do you should start receiving talk round up, parenting news and money saver again. Do get in touch as if you have any more questions.

i did it a week or so ago. when will we hear if we have won anything?

Done. I would like to win a National Trust Pass please! x

LackaDAISYcal Fri 05-Jul-13 17:54:02

Have I done this already?

I got an email about it today and clicked on the link which took me to the "Fill out our census" page. Clicking on the link at the top of the page takes me the online surveys and product tests main page. Clicked on census link and back to the "fill out our census" and so on and so circular.

Might I have filled it in before and this is why it's doing this?

This is the first one I've done. On these things do you have to join the thread to say you have done it or is doing it quietly & slinking off enough?

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 10-Jul-13 14:19:24

Done but the car question flumaxed me - we have company cars so don't own those but use them but own one campervan and one classic car (hardly reliable enough to count)

Was so loooong!

I'm assuming that when your option "independent bookshop" I include myself in that?
"I have bought books from myself"
because technically, i don't buy books from a retailer, i buy them from publishers, then tell the tax man what i've taken home

haggisandneeps Thu 18-Jul-13 22:56:42

FeegleFion Thu 18-Jul-13 23:36:56

Phew...completed, just in the nick of time wink

mindgone Sun 21-Jul-13 20:56:05

May I please just add that I think I would really enjoy being a secret shopper, and would love it if this was available to do through Mumsnet. I trust Mumsnet, but am very wary of replying to spam emails in my junk box offering this, so have never opened them! So if any companies or supermarkets are in need of my services, please let me know! Thanks very much. :-)
