Found it a bit hard to answer as essentially my labour was in two parts because there was a shift change in the middle

The first half went reasonably well, caring staff, with support from family & the last half was rushed, unsupported, family member sent home & generally very scary.

Can't complete as the majority of the questions are about labour - which I didn't experience due to a planned c-section, and when I try to submit it won't let me did to not having completed the irrelevant questions.

Done though could you checj as connection died as I submitted.
the options for 11 didnt make sense although I selected nonsense one as I assjme it was dont know or dont remember.
also for 20 I assume you mean labour rather than birth - else id better ask my mum :o

Completed as much as I could. As requested I only answered for my most recent which was a failed induction resulting in an unplanned c-section so a lot of the questions needed a n/a option. Got a bit fed up of trying to adapt the answers so ignored a few. Sorry that was probably a complete waste of time.

Some of it was a bit difficult as pre-internet and waterbirth times. Days of yore. Olden times etc.

Just completed this. Annoyed me a bit. There were assumptions inherent in the questions.

SuperDooperJezebel · 29/07/2014 18:46

Completed.

I ticked requested and given for gas and air and pethidine, but I did not want them and feel I was forced to have them by the midwife. An option for not requested but given would be better.

No option for episiotomy - does this count as medical intervention or vaginal birth with no intervention? Certainly felt and continues to feel like a big deal to me!

Completed as best as I could, although think it should have asked very early on if this was your first or not, as the questions seemed to imply they were talking to people giving birth for the first time, and if I@d answered for that occasion then the answers would have been very different.

Also struggled a bit with the question about the care received - individually, as is usually the case, all the staff were lovely but there was no space to say that they needed a lot more staff.... you know, maybe a midwife in the room whilst I gave birth might have been good.

I too found it tricky to complete based on my last birth as the questions seemed aimed at a first birth.

Report
GermyJamie · 29/07/2014 19:13

Had similar issues. Both with the fact i had to only think about my subsequent birth and because i had a planned section.

Report
zoemaguire · 29/07/2014 19:23

That was a seriously badly designed survey! The questions were clearly designed for a first birth, but the instructions explicitly asked for comments about the most recent birth. And most of the questions were irrelevant for a planned c-section (which I did not 'request', incidentally - there was no option for that!). I wouldn't like to be the person trying to make any sense of the replies you get!

GermyJamie · 29/07/2014 19:26

And by asking us to talk about our most recent births you will surely have a higher proportion of planned sections. I also didn't request mine. It was a medical necessity.

That's one really badly designed survey.

Gave up after a few questions-it doesn't apply to a planned section.

Think you should have put a bit more focus on experience and care immediately after the birth, I find the assumption that you prepare for the birth and that then everything just 'falls into place' afterwards one of the most frustrating things about any discussion of childbirth.

Report
Nerf · 29/07/2014 19:39

Yes badly designed. Planned section but all the questions seemed to assume 'real' labour etc with no n/a answer available. So length of labour I put don't know , whereas it should be n/a

Completed but I think you need another option for q16, they are all negative. This was my second birth and it was such a good experience that for a while it made me consider having another. (Until the sleepless nights kicked in but that's another story...)

Agree with others - seriously badly written survey.

I had planned c-sections, but planned not chosen by me. And no labour so all those questions were unanswerable. Answered what I could. Can't imagine the results are going to be very clear.

I did the survey on my phone and when I clicked the submit button it seemed to do something, but didn't then give me the usual page that comes up after I've completed a MN survey. I hit the submit button again and the same thing happened so I've either "done" the survey twice or it hasn't submitted my response at all. Who knows?!?

Report
Meglet · 29/07/2014 20:40

My second birth was a planned c-section, so no labour with that one. I gave up answering the questions after a while because I assumed it wouldn't accept blank answers Confused.

Done. I also gave birth in ye olden days but unsurprisingly the memories are still quite vivid.

Report
gamescompendium · 29/07/2014 22:46

Some of the questions were irrelevant considering this was my third birth.

Also although I had a vaginal birth this was a heavily monitored induction (premmie baby) which wasn't really covered. There's a big gap of intervention between a natural vaginal birth and a birth with forceps.
