AngelieMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 17-Apr-14 13:14:27

HouseTrip are looking for five lucky MNers and their families to enjoy a free stay at a HouseTrip location and post their feedback on MN.

HouseTrip say "HouseTrip is an online platform that allows visitors to choose from over 300,000 full homes from around the world to holiday in. From ivy-dappled country cottages to beach retreats and city-centre lofts, the service offers simplicity, value, flexibility and security for families looking for a hassle free and enjoyable holiday experience from start to finish."

We're looking for families who are able to visit one of the locations below:

-London, UK
-Edinburgh, UK
-Kent, UK
-Cornwall, UK
-Norfolk ,UK
-Brittany, France
-Brussels, Belgium
-Lisbon, Portugal

Available dates for visits include:
-w/c 5 May
-w/c 12 May
-w/c 19 May
-w/c 26 May

You can pick the location you’d like to visit and whether you’d prefer to visit during the week (Monday-Thursday) or the weekend (Friday-Monday).

HouseTrip will be organising the accommodation for the selected testers and they will also be booking any train, air or ferry travel and reimbursing petrol costs.

In return for this free trip (worth on average £800) each MNer will be asked to:

~ Make a video diary of their trip and submit this to HouseTrip. These videos will be edited and may be shown on the HouseTrip pages on MN, on and possibly elsewhere. They will be hosted on YouTube.
~ Add feedback to a thread on Mumsnet – at least twice. We're looking for feedback before you go and when you return. There will be WiFi available at your location, so we’d also like for you to post once you're there. These comments may well be used by HouseTrip on their pages on Mumsnet as well as possibly elsewhere (including on social media, in the press etc). Your MN name will not be used.
~ Add photos to the feedback thread (these don't need to show the children/ yourself, eg they could feature home you’re staying in, food, etc)
~ Add a review on Mumsnet to the Self Catering pages

If you'd like to sign up please add your details here.

We will be in touch with selected testers ASAP and their details will be passed to the team at HouseTrip so they can make the booking arrangements.

Thanks and good luck!

OwlCapone Thu 17-Apr-14 17:11:24

"up to two adults and two children"

so, only neat nuclear families.

Indith Thu 17-Apr-14 17:50:18

I have 3 children.

ishouldcocoa Thu 17-Apr-14 17:53:40

I only have one DC sad

tripecity Thu 17-Apr-14 18:05:32

sigh, I have 3 children as well, how disappointing that I cant apply

Oody Thu 17-Apr-14 18:54:21

Ishouldcoco surely you fit then? Up to 2 it says not 2 exactly.

mjmooseface Thu 17-Apr-14 19:10:15

Gulp. Didn't check the form before I sent it so I may have missed out some vital question, or something! Ah well. If I'm picked, great. If not, I'll go back to looking for a holiday!

sublimecorpse Thu 17-Apr-14 19:19:06

Completed and fingers crossed - could really do with a break!

cottonwoolmum Thu 17-Apr-14 19:33:12

Ooh. Looks too good to be true. DC have begged to go to Brussels in one of those weeks as there's a music festival on that they want to attend. Too much to hope we'd be picked!

Oh man could really do with a decent holiday!!

Didn't write a sob story, so should've done! It would've been true too grin

BarbaraPalmer Thu 17-Apr-14 20:40:16

I'm in - the seven year old is currently obsessed with all things Royal, so crossing fingers for London or Edinburgh.

CuntyBunny Thu 17-Apr-14 21:02:39

I'm in.

Looking on the bright side, this is yet another holiday company I can now cross off my (very short) list of possibles when it comes to booking stays for me, DH and my three children.

Maybe we should just stick to camping until the kids are old enough to be in a room without a parent / me and DH are sick of each other enough not to care being in 2 separate rooms.

ChocolateCoveredMisery Thu 17-Apr-14 21:23:37

I have three DC sad

Spottybra Thu 17-Apr-14 21:38:26

I'm in. Just watching me complete the survey has sent the 4yr old to sleep, and that's after an easter egg hunt, the park, 2hrs swimming, and dinner in a cafe. 2yr old is still wide awake whilst my eyes are pink.

IwishIwasmoreorganised Thu 17-Apr-14 21:46:21

Ds's currently have amber attendance at school (because I keep to the rules and they stay away for 48 hours after a bout of vomiting +/- diarrhoea) and I already know that having had a week off work during the Easter holidays that I can't have any off for half term so we won't be able to apply for this one.

Would be fab if ds's were of preschool age.

Oody Thu 17-Apr-14 21:54:58

The last week is half term for us

I have 4 DC. So glad yet another holiday company is making life easy for us hmm

ImATotJeSuisUneTot Thu 17-Apr-14 22:19:16

I think it's a bit off to complain that this potential freebie doesn't quite fit your set up.

I don't remember sad-facing over that new car test drive. Excluding me because I don't have a licence, pah! grin

Roseformeplease Thu 17-Apr-14 22:43:09

But there are loads of tests on here I can't do:

Tests for baby stuff (have teens)
Tests based in the South (live in the North)

Etc etc.

And loads I apply for and don't have the magic touch.

dripty Thu 17-Apr-14 22:43:10

I find that in order to participate in any kind of "family" holiday/ day out at theme park, etc, you need to stop at 2 DCsconfused

LackaDAISYcal Thu 17-Apr-14 22:44:38

grumpyoldtrout; there is nothing on the company website that says they don't cater for larger families hmm especially as they deal with houses and apartments. I am assuming that for the purposes of the trial the company have benchmarked some two bed apartments/houses.

I have three DC and I have applied; we will leave DH at home if chosen grin

LackaDAISYcal Thu 17-Apr-14 22:45:41

MN could you please clarify that a single parent with up to three children could also apply, thanks smile

makemineapinot Fri 18-Apr-14 01:20:38

None of those dates suit Scottish school holidays so that's teachers ruled out - as well as those parents not wanting to take their children out of school :-(

But aren't there dates for weekends, Pinot? And I haven't clicked on the link yet but it says families of 'up to 2 adults and 2 kids so I assume if you are a single parent with two children or a couple with one child, you could still apply. Or have I missed something?

neiljames77 Fri 18-Apr-14 08:32:31

What's the catch? Are they all haunted or something?

BiscuitCrumb Fri 18-Apr-14 08:40:56

DH refuses out right to be involved in video diaries so I can't enter. Good luck for those who can!

BiscuitCrumb Fri 18-Apr-14 08:43:02

Cat yes... I think people are reading it wrong. Up to 2 adults and 2 children. They are looking at family holidays so don't want 4 adults. And probably the houses can't cater for more than 2 children.

Thebeachismyhappyplace Fri 18-Apr-14 09:52:48

Can do Cornwall for a weekend. Would be fabulous!

HotCrossCervix Fri 18-Apr-14 10:38:27

buggering exams. Can I go and leave the brats behind?

Legologgo Fri 18-Apr-14 10:47:03

in term time?
yeah right

Would love to do this but even if not I didn't know of the site and so will be looking at the houses anyway as an alternative to Hoseasons.

AngelieMumsnet (MNHQ) Fri 18-Apr-14 15:39:25

Hi everyone, sorry to those of you with families of more than 4 people who were disappointed earlier. We've now adjusted the sign-up form for families up to 6 people, and changed the opening post accordingly. Single parents are also very welcome to apply. HouseTrip will be matching all chosen families with the most suitable properties for them.
So if you're still interested, please do sign up! smile

LackaDAISYcal please PM me if you'd like me to add your DH's details to your sign-up form grin

If anyone else needs to make any changes to their forms, please PM me too!

Bicnod Fri 18-Apr-14 16:38:32

Eek! Have signed up. Fingers crossed.

gazzalw Fri 18-Apr-14 19:18:40

Any idea when this is likely to close? Fingers and everything else crossed - we could really do with a holiday wink

FrontForward Fri 18-Apr-14 20:53:08

I have a dog who isn't invited. I shall leave him at home. For those families with 5+ children I recommend this option grin

LackaDAISYcal Fri 18-Apr-14 22:34:35

ermm, maybe not Angelie grin

bellabelly Fri 18-Apr-14 23:33:23

Entered! Thanks for getting them to change it - my two youngest really don't take up much room... grin

LackaDAISYcal Fri 18-Apr-14 23:39:26

gawd, mine do bella, what with the toys and the clothes and the toys and the clothes and the additional cuddlies just in case the first lot of cuddlies feel too cuddled and the second lot feel jealous that they haven't been cuddled enough hmm

Pre DC, an overnight bag, my hairdryer, some lippy and I was off for a long weekend. Apres 3 DC, we need an MPV and a roof box for a day at the bloody seaside!

bellabelly Fri 18-Apr-14 23:50:13

Oh god, I never even bothered with a hairdryer... grin I do miss those days when you just needed a credit card and a passport and that was the packing done. Now it's half an hour just to go to the local playground so might as well put in an extra 10 mins and be off to Portugal! [Disclaimer: have never flown anywhere with kids before - maybe it'd be a total pain!]

LackaDAISYcal Fri 18-Apr-14 23:52:40

never flown, but have done overnight ferry...that was fun hmm

LackaDAISYcal Fri 18-Apr-14 23:54:36

actually MN, can I forget the DH and DC? winkgrin

when are you doing a "MNers needed for a luxury overnight break for one with massage and ultimate room service thrown in" product trial?

Ledkr Fri 18-Apr-14 23:55:24

Done but rarely lucky

bellabelly Sat 19-Apr-14 00:05:20

Oh yes, I'm in - MN-ers to come, sans famille, for luxury break. Spa, fine dining, etc included. I'd be there... [daydreams a bit...]

ILoveMyCaravan Sat 19-Apr-14 13:06:53

Filled the form in but it didn't give me the option of w/c 5th May?

NannyPeach Sat 19-Apr-14 14:04:26

I have pm'd you Angeliemumsnet - please can you amend my details to include all of my family! Thank you. grin

I've entered too. This is a very exciting competition!!

custardcream1000 Sun 20-Apr-14 10:20:56

bellabelly - It's not too bad flying with children/babies as long as you are well equiped with toys and junk food.......ummm sorry, I mean healthy snacks smile

PickledEggMobile Sun 20-Apr-14 15:13:15

I've done it. Fingers crossed!

HoopyViper Mon 21-Apr-14 00:33:56

Oooh yes please smile

muminthecity Mon 21-Apr-14 00:45:59

Oh I could've added more DC - I will PM you now Angelie smile.

muminthecity Mon 21-Apr-14 00:48:26

Actually, on second thoughts I think I'll just leave it as it is.

theITgirl Mon 21-Apr-14 13:09:35

Done, sounds great, wonder if dh could get the time off work. or we could just leave him behind.

serin Mon 21-Apr-14 22:04:19

Done! Fingers crossed for Norfolk smile

Tealady1983 Tue 22-Apr-14 08:20:27

When is this picked?

idleweiss Tue 22-Apr-14 13:25:13

This would be fantastic! Would love a little family holiday before my third LO is born!! Would be good to see another side of London, would love that, even though I live here!! Fingers crossed! smile

vindscreenviper Tue 22-Apr-14 15:46:40

When will the chosen ones find out?

mumsbe Tue 22-Apr-14 21:23:47

I have applied fingers crossed

fuckwitteryhasform Tue 22-Apr-14 21:25:45

Was hard picking top three locations , I would go to any them for free!

Done! I'm a single parent with 2 kids and couldn't afford a holiday this year so fingers crossed. We don't have passports so I just put in for London, Kent or Cornwall. It would be nice to have a home away from home as opposed to the budget hotel deals that I usually book.

Chatelaine123 Tue 22-Apr-14 23:12:16

This is such an interesting post for me. We have been considering registering with House Trip for several months. The house is ready (ish) but now we are having a "wobble" because of the negative comments on sites such as TripAdvisor.

custardcream1000 Wed 23-Apr-14 14:15:54

Keeping my fingers crossed smile

Tortoise Wed 23-Apr-14 14:22:41

I never know what to put in the 'why' box!
Fingers crossed.

Oblomov Wed 23-Apr-14 18:07:51

Can't believe I stand a chance, but worth a go.

Nigglenaggle Wed 23-Apr-14 20:40:59

Was going to join the righteous indignation re larger families but searched on the website and there are some bargains for 5 people..... depending on where you want to go smile So as others have said, they have to choose a size for the product test, but the company cater fine for 3 child families.

LackaDAISYcal Wed 23-Apr-14 23:16:06

MAybe the ones who are unlucky should get together and organise a mass MN houseswap grin

BrieAndChilli Thu 24-Apr-14 12:30:15

We rented an apartment in London last Easter for 3 adults and 3 children through rightmove. We got a phone call on Easter Sunday the day before we were meant to go saying the landlord had cancelled the booking due to scheduled work n the building. Left us with no accomadation with everything booked up seeing as it was Easter bank holiday and all., thankfully housetrip pulled out all the stops and found us an even better apartment.
I would be in two minds wether to book with them again as I would be worried that the same would happen and they would be unable to find us alternative, on the other hand they were great.

Deana2807 Thu 24-Apr-14 17:27:01

Fingers crossed

custardcream1000 Thu 24-Apr-14 22:20:23

Crossing my fingers extra tight now that it's closed!

Good luck everyone smile

Ledkr Fri 25-Apr-14 08:52:08

When do we know?
Reviews aren't great are they, let's hope whoever is picked can give good ones.

Ledkr Fri 25-Apr-14 08:53:37

lacks you can come to my house as long as you don't move the furniture and see the dust grin

DoItTooJulia Fri 25-Apr-14 12:33:09

Ooh, wonder when the lucky ones find out! Fingers crossed its me!

idleweiss Fri 25-Apr-14 13:48:45

Here's hoping! I need a few days away from my flat, it is driving me mad!

LackaDAISYcal Fri 25-Apr-14 17:24:58

Same here ledkr...the dust bunnies here have their own warren under the sofa!

Tealady1983 Sat 26-Apr-14 18:43:33

Has anyone heard anything yet?

Oblomov Tue 29-Apr-14 10:09:07

no news?
when are the results mnhq?

custardcream1000 Tue 29-Apr-14 11:26:34

I am quite surprised no one has been chosen yet - the 5th is only a week away!

Hopefully we will find out today smile

Tortoise Tue 29-Apr-14 12:03:57

I need a holiday! Stressful few days. Please put us out of our misery MNHQ!

Deana2807 Tue 29-Apr-14 14:15:37

Has any any one been lucky enough to be selected. smile

Mnhq when are the results.

Ledkr Tue 29-Apr-14 17:44:21

I wish they'd stop sending e mails about other stuff to get me unnecessarily hopeful grin

LackaDAISYcal Tue 29-Apr-14 17:48:06

I know Ledkr; I even had one entitled Housetrip and got all in a flutter, but it was just confirming changing my form to include DH!

Ledkr Tue 29-Apr-14 18:00:26

Oh no! I bet you nearly passed out!
I was quite excited when I got the Thorpe park pass (even though I was clearly a reserve)
If I don't get picked ill console myself with not having to pack and organise pets etc

DoItTooJulia Tue 29-Apr-14 18:50:21

Nothing here yet.....<still hopeful>

gazzalw Tue 29-Apr-14 20:59:55

PRobably a bit late to hear tonight now although Angelie is still working - sending thro' surveys, so who knows?

Ledkr Wed 30-Apr-14 12:21:22

Was this a troll thread? grin

AngelieMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 30-Apr-14 16:06:40

Really sorry to keep everyone waiting! I'll be in touch as soon as I can.

DoItTooJulia Wed 30-Apr-14 17:10:16

Oooh, there's still a chance!

custardcream1000 Wed 30-Apr-14 17:35:13

Thanks for the update Angelie.

Wiifitmama Thu 01-May-14 20:26:33

I hope they don't pick anyone to go on the 5th May! That's only 4 days from now!

gazzalw Thu 01-May-14 20:38:35

That would indeed be a great rush! Wonder how many applicants they got!?????

AngelieMumsnet (MNHQ) Fri 02-May-14 11:52:00

Just emailed everyone who has been selected smile

Sorry to all those who have been disappointed, if anyone drops out, I'll let you know!

neiljames77 Fri 02-May-14 13:44:36

Ledkr Fri 02-May-14 13:58:02

Yes, everyone have a fab time <hides thread> grin
I'm kind if relieved as its a bit short notice for me now.

LackaDAISYcal Fri 02-May-14 16:30:09

Tortoise Fri 02-May-14 17:07:35

Well done to the lucky ones.
sad not to be selected though.

vindscreenviper Sat 03-May-14 08:39:57

grin at Cat have a lovely time.

Wonder who won the Norfolk hol, that's the one I was after? Guess I'll have to get the camping gear down from the attic.

Moogdroog Sat 03-May-14 12:23:44

Woohoo! Been selected grin thanks
We're off to Edinburgh - originally Lisbon but time felt a bit tight to get passports sorted for us all - thank you Angelie for sorting that out for us thanks!
Any tips for things to do with the kids gratefully received.

Hi Moogdroog,

Congratulations! Why not look here for more information about what's on in Edinburgh - and you could even PM LEEdinburgh for some more tips!

And anyone else who's been lucky enough to be chosen to do a HouseTrip visit in the UK, do check out the relevant Mumsnet Local site, pick the brains of the Local Editor and ask questions on the relevant Talk board too - we're happy to help!

Enjoy your visits, everyone!

Moogdroog Sat 03-May-14 13:00:07

Ah yes! Why didn't I think of that, thank you LEMerton! Lots of research to do smile

Have fun, Moogdroog! Edinburgh is fantastic!

Oh have fun Moogdroog and thank you Vindscreenviper. We are very lucky indeed. The kids can't believe it!

Have you booked your accommodation yet Moogdroog ? Did you find the site tricky to use? It took me a while as the screen kept flicking from the booking page for the particular house to a more general site/home screen.

Moogdroog Sun 04-May-14 10:03:30

Catwithflowers - not booked yet. Spent a while umming and ahhing about which apartment to go for and in the end after enquiring our first choice isn't available. Must get on with it asap! I'm finding that the website is behaving itself so far though, thankfully.

LackaDAISYcal Sun 04-May-14 20:49:00

Edinburgh...the zoo, the castle, a walk up Arthur's seat, visit the sea front in Musselburgh, Our Dynamic Earth and the Scottish Parliament, The Museum in Chambers Street, The Gallery of Modern Art, A ghost tour in the Royal Mile...

The Grassmarket or Rose Street for the cafe atmoshere (during the day, it gets lively at night)

It's been a while since I lived there and I'm sure there are better things to do now, but those are a good start smile

Oblomov Mon 05-May-14 15:13:39

Not me. sad
But glad for those selected to go to Brussels and Edinburgh.
Have a fab time.
