Mumsnetters needed to visit THORPE PARK Resort on Happy Height Day! NOW CLOSED

AngelieMumsnet (MNHQ) Fri 07-Mar-14 15:42:56

We're looking for 50 Mumsnetters and their DCs to attend Happy Height Day at THORPE PARK Resort (tickets alone worth £196) and tell us all about it.

Here's what THORPE PARK Resort say: "We see so many excited kids every year who have just reached 1.4m and are now tall enough to have the ride of their lives. At THORPE PARK Resort we're championing this achievement with our Happy Height Day, and celebrating the moment these kids experience a whole new world of thrills!
Whilst we love seeing these kids giddy with excitement to ride on Stealth for the first time, with over 25 rides and attractions throughout the Park and with a new ANGRY BIRDS Land opening in May, there really is so much to keep the whole family entertained. And that includes those under 1.4m"

Of course THORPE PARK Resort is a day out for all the family and has traditionally been popular amongst older children but for Happy Height Day they are particularly interested in showcasing their thrilling rides and attractions to children who are at least 1.4 metres tall. As with all theme parks, rides are often, from a safety point of view, suitable for various height children. They have 11 rides and attractions suitable for children who are on or this height - the Extreme Thrills rides (here). So, if you have at least one child who fits the bill height wise and is up for a thrilling time, read on...

The event will take place on Saturday 22nd March at THORPE PARK Resort.

The chosen Mumsnetters will receive:
- 4 x THORPE PARK Resort Annual Passes: unlimited access to THORPE PARK Resort throughout the 2014 season, plus 20% discount across selected on Park retail and food outlets. (worth £196, annual pass terms and conditions apply)
- Gold Priority Pass on Saturday 22nd March: allows fastrack access to many of the rides and attractions
- Vouchers to buy lunch or use in the retail shops on Saturday 22nd March (worth £50)

Every family who attends the event day will also receive a Happy Height Day welcome pack and gift as a thank you for attending smile.

Those families selected will be asked, in return, to post their feedback on a thread on Mumsnet after the day to share experiences and also add a review to the reviews area on MN here.

All chosen Mumsnetters will also be asked to use their tickets again to visit THORPE PARK Resort for the launch of ANGRY BIRDS land - dates TBC.

We'd also love it if you could take a few photos of your day and upload them to the feedback thread. Photos may be used by THORPE PARK Resort on Facebook, their website and possibly on other marketing material.

Please note a maximum of 4 people per family can attend the day. Each family will need to make their own way to the park, as travel is not included, however there will be free parking in the car park for those who decide to drive.

If you'd like to take part please add your details here.

We'll be in touch with those selected on 14th March.

Thanks and good luck!

did no one proofread this?

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Fri 07-Mar-14 17:45:49

PsychicPaper - did you mean missing out the link? If so I have added it now

Hulababy Fri 07-Mar-14 17:53:52

I filled in the form but added dd's age as 12 instead of 11y. She's not 12 til April. I'm just so used to putting 12 after looking at summer holiday stuff. Is it possible for MN to change it? Thanks

mamazoo Fri 07-Mar-14 18:01:40

Fingers Crossed smile

Kormachameleon Fri 07-Mar-14 18:40:04

ds would burst if we did this. i have everything crossed

HappyHippyChick Fri 07-Mar-14 18:41:03

Thanks Angelie all done.

booface Fri 07-Mar-14 19:23:14

Sounds great, my son would love this, really hoping!!

Ledkr Fri 07-Mar-14 20:00:13

Done, I'm hoping too but never get picked lol.

Claudiecat Fri 07-Mar-14 20:33:03

Done! Fingers crossed.

schilke Fri 07-Mar-14 21:05:37

I filled in the form and have I think I ticked the wrong height box for dd1 - she should be over 140cm not underblush just measured her to make sure. Can you change it?

beepbeep Fri 07-Mar-14 21:13:30

DCs would be beyond themselves!!

Ledkr Fri 07-Mar-14 21:42:36

I put 12 too as I'd also been booking our summer ferry. Can you change it? She's 11 until May, it might make a difference.

EstoyAqui Fri 07-Mar-14 21:50:21

I've put DD down. She is tall for her age but DH insists she isn't that tall. I'm sure she is. Can I measure her in the morning and withdraw if necessary? blush

muminthecity Fri 07-Mar-14 21:58:53

DD would love this - I've just checked her height and she is exactly 141cm tall so just the right height for the big rides!

Catypillar Fri 07-Mar-14 22:16:42

Not after their half-hearted so called apology for the "Asylum" attraction I won't be.

for anyone who missed it https://www.rcpsych.ac.uk/mediacentre/pressreleases2013/openlettertothorpepark.aspx

I have 2 that are just tall enough to take full advantage of this so fingers crossed. smile

aristocat Fri 07-Mar-14 22:45:16

DD is 1.39m tall ..... so close to the big rides! DS has measured at 1.53m - just realised he is 5ft shock

Quinteszilla Fri 07-Mar-14 22:45:57

Fingers crossed!

MamaSara Sat 08-Mar-14 02:27:04

Done. Would have two very excited children if chosen! smile

Wow! Our DCs are too small yet but good luck to those who've applied!

Dollydowser Sat 08-Mar-14 08:06:32

I have filled it on but there didn't seem to be any drop down or fill in box for height?

Glitterfairys Sat 08-Mar-14 13:27:28

All done smile

Nerfmother Sat 08-Mar-14 22:04:23

Just measured ds. Can u check my entry reads 143cm? Think I put the right category... grin

Oblomov Sun 09-Mar-14 14:53:09

Done

Oblomov Sun 09-Mar-14 14:55:38

Didn't know what to say. Could do dh and me and two boys. Or I put down me and 3 boys. Was that the wrong choice? Have I scuppered my chances?

EstoyAqui Mon 10-Mar-14 09:52:50

I measured DD she is 135. I'll have to bow out. Good luck to all the others. grin

AngelieMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 10-Mar-14 10:01:51

schilke, Hulababy and Ledkr - I've changed all of your responses so that they contain the correct heights/ages smile

Nerfmother, Dollydowser and EstoyAqui - I'll PM you about your responses shortly smile

wheretoyougonow Mon 10-Mar-14 10:11:52

This is the best offer ever! grin

stealthsquiggle Mon 10-Mar-14 11:06:51

DD is ~136cm, so no point entering sad - she is bursting to be tall enough for big rides and keeps demanding to be measured again. We took her on 120cm rides when she was only just tall enough (wouldn't have passed without shoes on). DS, OTOH, is ~160cm and doesn't want to go on some of the rides his little sister is eyeing up hmm

agennaro Mon 10-Mar-14 11:08:44

Done, fingers crossed!

JaxTellerIsAllMine Mon 10-Mar-14 14:38:53

lets hope we are chosen.

NettleTea Mon 10-Mar-14 18:51:32

DD has just hit 140 after literally YEARS of wishing (she has an illness whoich means she is small for her age) so I am hoping that although the height is correct, she is 13 and a half, so may be too old.......
she has missed out on watching her friends ride fast rides for years now, she would love to go to this.....

shanks313 Tue 11-Mar-14 13:45:44

Applied to this but just realised my DDs are still too small.i read the OP wrong.

rupert23 Tue 11-Mar-14 14:55:02

my three sons would be so excited if we got chosen for this day out it would be a nice family day and they could let off some steam. Fingers crossed

Hermancakedestroyer Tue 11-Mar-14 16:54:54

Wow indeed! This sounds great! Good luck everybody x

idleweiss Tue 11-Mar-14 17:21:33

My little girl would love this and has always wanted to go to a theme park..even though she is quite a bit under 1.4m! I haven't been to Thorpe Park since I was 10, would be great to go back and see how it's changed! smile

done .Dd is 11 on Sat and we just measured her and has reached 140cm at last so can ride with her big brothers

both my older 2 are 6 foot plus shock

TheZeeTeam Tue 11-Mar-14 21:49:10

It's going to be Hell! A theme park filled with kids who just realised that they don't like rollercoasters after all!! grin

chichime Wed 12-Mar-14 10:48:42

I would love to be chosen. I have just completed the online form. So I am keeping fingers cross.

Now closed! They are choosing (fingers crossed).
smile

schilke Thu 13-Mar-14 09:57:50

Please choose me! We are paying a fortune to go to Legoland this weekend with German exchange student and would love to have a few free trips to Thorpe Park over the summer. I know begging doesn't help, but I'll give it a go.

wheretoyougonow Thu 13-Mar-14 20:36:54

We find out tomorrow!

Placemmarking - waiting to see when people are notified smile

Nerfmother Fri 14-Mar-14 08:11:18

Marking place, good luck all entrants x

wheretoyougonow Fri 14-Mar-14 09:38:29

Anybody else refreshing their e-mails like mad?!grin

idleweiss Fri 14-Mar-14 15:12:01

Have everything crossed! smile

schilke Fri 14-Mar-14 16:01:15

Oh I want to know! I had forgotten about it until about an hour ago and now keep checking this thread after checking emails!

AngelieMumsnet (MNHQ) Fri 14-Mar-14 16:53:24

Hi everyone, I've just emailed all the selected MNers smile

OMG We're in!!! Thank you so much. smile
I'm so happy.

Vajazzler Fri 14-Mar-14 16:59:02

Woo hoo!!! Just got my email!

lettucesoup Fri 14-Mar-14 16:59:44

not for us sad

schilke Fri 14-Mar-14 16:59:58

YES! Thank you so much. Girls are very excited. Thank you.

Begging did help then schilke. wink

MrsSippie Fri 14-Mar-14 17:02:29

Me too!!!!!!! So excited!!

MrsMot Fri 14-Mar-14 17:05:25

I'm going to hold off telling them until we get there!!!

idleweiss Fri 14-Mar-14 17:08:46

Not us. sad (sniff) hope everyone who got picked has a great time! smile

Nerfmother Fri 14-Mar-14 17:10:18

We are in! Thank you so much, dcs will be so thrilled.

Hermancakedestroyer Fri 14-Mar-14 17:11:25

Not us either :-( haven't won a sausage since the women's football tickets in October which have still not arrived. Seemed to have dropped off mumsnet radar. Have a fab time if you are going :-)

HappyHippyChick Fri 14-Mar-14 17:17:36

Woo Hoo we're in too! Not telling my two until we go!! How brilliant, thanks. grin

MrsSippie Fri 14-Mar-14 17:19:43

It's Ds birthday on the 21st - what an amazing treat for him. They are beside themselves!

schilke Fri 14-Mar-14 17:19:54

It did Ilikepinkwine. Might try it again in future!

LCHammer Fri 14-Mar-14 17:28:46

We're in! Happy kids here.

Let us know details, it must be one of the hugest MN meet-ups too!

Hermancakedestroyer Fri 14-Mar-14 17:36:18

Have just re-read my post and realised that I sound very jealous! I am! But apologies blush

marsybum Fri 14-Mar-14 17:42:16

we're in too!!! now trying to persuade DH that coming with us is much better than commentating on football for hospital radio, his loss!

MrsSippie Fri 14-Mar-14 17:48:33

How will we recognise each other??

Keepcalmanddrinkwine Fri 14-Mar-14 18:01:38

Herman, I have asked Annmumsnet on the Winners' Corner thread to chase up the football tickets- I too had the initial email (and responded at once with my preference and details) but nothing since.

Dollydowser Fri 14-Mar-14 18:08:14

Happy days! Thankyou so much xxx very unmumsnetty kisses

LCHammer Fri 14-Mar-14 18:13:04

Well, if MN doesn't organise us, I'm sure we can do it. Maybe a few check-points during the day at different rides.

MrsSippie Fri 14-Mar-14 18:16:28

Ooh, I suppose MN may sort it so we go round in a scary sort of 'pack' grin

LCHammer Fri 14-Mar-14 18:17:17

A pack of 50 is a takeover.

MrsSippie Fri 14-Mar-14 18:19:41

hahaha!

TheregoesBod Fri 14-Mar-14 18:32:02

Ooh, lots of uncool squealing here!!! Thankyou so much MNHQ I am ridiculously excited. I shall tell the DC the night before - cant wait to see their faces. The big bonus is that DP is impressed which justifies (to him) all the time I spend on MN. It's a win win!

Shall we wear carnations/scarves/carry some 'naice' ham to recognise each other??

ImAThrillseekerHoney Fri 14-Mar-14 18:35:20

Many thanks - my thrill-mad DD is going to be over the moon.

50 Mumsnetters in families of 4 is 200 shock. We're all going to have goody bags I see - I don't know whether that will have identifying items. I know absolutely nothing about Thorpe Park - I need to do planning.

I said we'd come by train - would we be able to change that to driving?

Hermancakedestroyer Fri 14-Mar-14 18:38:26

Thanks keep calm I'm not sure when the season starts. My dh thinks it may be in April. I'm going to email the chap that we emailed originally and ask him. If I hear anything I will let you know.

IAmNotAPrincessIAmAKahleesi Fri 14-Mar-14 18:39:25

We've been chosen!

I'm so thrilled, thank you so much MN and Thorpe park grin

Looking for to seeing a gang of mn'ers, maybe we should hiss at each in other in greeting like the nest of vipers we are grin

muminthecity Fri 14-Mar-14 18:40:54

Woohoo! Thank you MNHQ, I'm so excited!

Nerfmother Fri 14-Mar-14 18:51:09

Ds is beyond excited. I've had to measure him again (he's still 143cm grin) and he's been looking up rides with dd.

Keepcalmanddrinkwine Fri 14-Mar-14 18:57:04

It would be fab to meet some fellow vipers. I have done another name change but wine is a recurring theme lately.

Last time I was at Thorpe Park I was pregnant with DD2 (but I had absolutely no idea). Now she's tall enough to go on them herself!
smile

Oblomov Fri 14-Mar-14 19:01:50

Been chosen. Absolutely thrilled. Thank you MNHQ. See you all there, fellow mn'ers!!

FanFuckingTastic Fri 14-Mar-14 19:05:20

I am so happy, can't wait to tell the kids grin

Dollydowser Fri 14-Mar-14 19:42:51

MrsSippie I'll be the one in the mumsnet scarf grin

Nerfmother Fri 14-Mar-14 20:04:51

Link to a mumsnet scarf? I have one I think by accident smile

Keepcalmanddrinkwine Fri 14-Mar-14 20:54:21

Scarf

But what if it's sunny?

Nerfmother Fri 14-Mar-14 21:14:43

Thanks! No idea I'm always freezing so will be extremely visible grin

FanFuckingTastic Fri 14-Mar-14 21:47:07

I may be the one on a mobility scooter, so I'll be recognizable. I've not met any mumsnetters before, so this will be a new experience. I had such a horrible time recently, coming home to this news was just perfect. Put such a big smile on my face.

Kormachameleon Fri 14-Mar-14 22:16:46

yyyyyyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

i cant believe we have been chosen, i am so happy. ive had an awful few weeks and this has really put a smile on my face

thank you so much mumsnet and thorpe park

Livvylongpants Sat 15-Mar-14 06:26:31

Yay! We are in! You'll see me with a 13 year old 2 year old and a baby in the pram! Soo excited. And they are yearly passes so that's some trips for summer holidays sorted.

Thanks mumsnet!

wheretoyougonow Sat 15-Mar-14 11:48:48

Thank you so much. We will look out for mumsnet scarfs! Is there a special look we can give each other?!smile

Keepcalmanddrinkwine Sat 15-Mar-14 12:00:21

How about the "I'm so stressed because DD has decided that big rollercoasters make her ill" look?

(Hoping not, lucky I have 2 to fit the height bill and one is showing signs of being an extreme rides fan).

smile

NettleTea Sat 15-Mar-14 12:42:11

WOOHOO!!!!! DD is over the moon and think DP is definately coming too. cant wait.
DS is vaguely oblivious, as ever!

NettleTea Sat 15-Mar-14 12:43:37

better make sure the MN scarves dont cause a mass strangulation a la Isadora Duncan..... will add an extra element to the scare factor

MrsSippie Sat 15-Mar-14 16:58:42

I'm so amazed that we got chosen that I'm thinking maybe only a few people went in for it grin How many people normally enter these?

MrsMot Sat 15-Mar-14 19:51:05

I may have bought a blue version of the MN scarf... I'll be easy to spot, the one whose tantruming 6yo can't understand why he can't go on the big rides wink

MrsSippie Sat 15-Mar-14 19:55:56

I've got a yellow stripey-ish one I can wear. I will be the one with the over excited 14 year old and the screeching 8 year old, oh and the husband who is looking completely bewildered...

Nerfmother Sun 16-Mar-14 09:44:45

Do we know what time we need to be there?

MrsSippie Sun 16-Mar-14 09:46:50

They're sending more details in the week - we'll be leaving home about 7 though as it's about 90 miles!

Nerfmother Sun 16-Mar-14 09:47:55

Just checked, it's open ten til six. We could get there for half ten, maybe earlier - how exciting! One of the little ones has filming so might drop him and then come: the older two have told all their friends!

Nerfmother Sun 16-Mar-14 09:48:38

Oh cross post mrs sippie. Think it's the same for us - I was going to leave at 9 blush

Thank you Mumsnet, dd is so excited grin

MrsSippie Sun 16-Mar-14 10:01:02

According to the map it'll take us about one and a half hours but I have a terror of motorways and we wil have to do the m25!! I will sit in the back allowing dh to drive grin

idleweiss Mon 17-Mar-14 11:13:23

AngelieMumsnet - if there is a reserves list, just incase anyone can't make it at the last minute (chances will be VERY slim, I know! Lol) we would love to be on it! smile

planneditbookitjustgottapay4it Mon 17-Mar-14 21:44:10

Just told my girls they are so excited smile thank you only just checked my e-mail as did not expect to get picked smile

Keepcalmanddrinkwine Mon 17-Mar-14 22:45:21

DH just said someone from work recommended having a change of clothes in the car in case we got wet. Not sure how wet we will get but not a bad idea for the journey home.
smile

Kormachameleon Mon 17-Mar-14 22:47:20

Oneif the rides literally totally soaks you to the skin. It also soaks everyone walking past

A change of clothes is very sensible

Nerfmother Tue 18-Mar-14 06:48:56

Eeeeek which one?

TickleMyTitsTillFriday Tue 18-Mar-14 15:23:08

Hi Angelie I have sent you an email, not sure if you got it?

Kormachameleon Tue 18-Mar-14 16:04:36

Nerfmother ive just checked and it is the rather appropriately named tidal wave tide. Trust me when I tell you that if you go on this, or walk too close to it you will need a change of clothes, its not an ordinary 'wet from ride' type of wet, it is soaked right through and dripping wet. Its a great ride though. We did it last then got changed, had a hot drink and went home

schilke Tue 18-Mar-14 16:46:15

I will not be going on tidal wave on Saturday as the forecast is 8c and rain!

Nerfmother Tue 18-Mar-14 17:21:14

Ok will be avoiding that one - it's all yours! Think were now aiming to get there at ten. Ds is counting down the days and is soooo thrilled. Really really looking forward to doing something with the older two as it's always pitched at the little ones when we go out, by default.

IAmNotAPrincessIAmAKahleesi Tue 18-Mar-14 17:25:39

Do you think it would be ok to bring more children if they paid to go in as usual? Is there a limit on numbers or is the park open as usual?

MikeLitoris Tue 18-Mar-14 17:25:55

His far are people travelling to get there?

I'm in Cardiff so will take me about 2.5 hour to drive down. Not sure if train might be less hassle. Would cost twice as much than petrol though.

we only found out today as not got email through and my daughter is now bouncing round like tigger

fanfuckingfantastic we need to race as I will be in my powerchair

marsybum Tue 18-Mar-14 17:37:06

we're travelling a long way too - from Leeds so 3 1/2 hours! worth it though as how often do you get a day out for petrol costs!

Iamnotaprincess I have emailed asking same question as can not get a babysitter for ds4 ~* he is almost 9 but to medically complex to get anyone look after as my babysitters ( ds1 and ds2 will be with me and dd

were coming from East Hertfordshire and you wont miss us as I have a big offroad powerchair

MrsSippie Tue 18-Mar-14 17:45:18

We're coming from cambridge - will probably be there at about 8am!

MikeLitoris Tue 18-Mar-14 17:46:58

I'm not telling my DC until Saturday morning. They will drive me batshit going on otherwise.

I think I'm leaving about 7.30. Should be there for 10ish.

were driving down but waiting on blude badge but do have a rather large wheelchair accessible van to park is there area marked of for parking?

TickleMyTitsTillFriday Tue 18-Mar-14 17:53:26

We are driving as train is so expensive. The kids are beside themselves with excitement, as am I wink 2.5 hr drive for us but I know it's going to be so worth it!

Nerfmother Tue 18-Mar-14 18:13:22

Princess - think the tickets include fast pass for some rides so might be a problem for you all to go on at the same time?

yeah I saw that for us not so much a problem as ds4 to short at 113cm for big stuff

will just take in turns on riding big then someone doing smaller with ds4
ds1 and ds2 can ride with dd as 17 and 19

schilke Tue 18-Mar-14 19:01:31

I'm much closer - only 20 miles away.

MrsSippie Tue 18-Mar-14 19:09:29

Wish I hadn't told my two till nearer the time!!

Dollydowser Tue 18-Mar-14 19:14:39

Princess according to Thorpe Park website, saturday is Happy Height day and the first 500 get in free.

Nerfmother Tue 18-Mar-14 19:23:58

First 500 measuring between 140 and 141 cm I think?

Nerfmother Tue 18-Mar-14 19:30:37

First 500 between 1.4 and 1.5 without shoes.

TickleMyTitsTillFriday Tue 18-Mar-14 19:41:17

I am buying am extra ticket for my youngest, the free tickets don't specify if they are adult or kids do they?

TickleMyTitsTillFriday Tue 18-Mar-14 19:43:26

Ha! MrsMot my 5 yr old will be exactly the same!

Yes i spoke to Thorpe park and we can buy extra tickets as park is open to the public to
though they will not get the gold express passes unless we decide to buy them

LCHammer Tue 18-Mar-14 21:28:12

If anyone has a 14 y.o. or thereabouts and would like to pair up with my DS, could you please PM me to arrange for them to meet. I'll be focusing on the younger ones and don't want DS to feel lonely. Also I don't really want to go on some of the scary rides with him. Thanks.

MrsSippie Tue 18-Mar-14 21:31:47

I will pm you!

MrsSippie Tue 18-Mar-14 21:33:42

Argh can't do it on tablet! However, will be in touch tomorrow if that's ok? Have 14 year old who loves the scary rides but we don't!

dd who be 10 loves the big rides .I shall be holding coats while her brothers ride with her .

TickleMyTitsTillFriday Wed 19-Mar-14 00:00:28

Korma we have a 10 yr old going smile

we have a 10 year old tomboy going

Kormachameleon Wed 19-Mar-14 12:06:18

Great, my boy is an only child so if anyone wants to meet up with similar aged children that would be lovely

Can I ask what do we need to take for proof that we are who we say we are ? as we could all be hairy truckers

LCHammer Wed 19-Mar-14 13:02:22

A scarf in a certain pattern.

MrsMot Wed 19-Mar-14 19:15:35

I have a 10yo Korma, he doesn't know we're going yet... Also have 14 yo dd. My blue leopard print scarf has arrived. Will only take us 30 mins or so to get there, we're just off j16 of the M25 so having the annual passes will be great!

LCHammer Wed 19-Mar-14 19:23:01

I've PMed you, MrsMot.

Nerfmother Wed 19-Mar-14 19:26:37

I have an 11 year old boy - a very fizzy excited one!

Hermancakedestroyer Thu 20-Mar-14 14:23:42

keepcalmanddrinkwine I've heard back from James at continental tyres re FA wsl season tickets and he says we will receive them before the first game of the season which I have looked up and is the 16th April. So hopefully we'll have them soon!

Keepcalmanddrinkwine Thu 20-Mar-14 19:44:53

Me too Hermancakedestroyer. I haven't seen a Herman cake for ages... smile

Vajazzler Thu 20-Mar-14 20:20:16

I had to decline our tickets this morning so someone might get a late email!

MrsSippie Fri 21-Mar-14 08:03:41

Weather looking a bit blergh!

Keepcalmanddrinkwine Fri 21-Mar-14 08:53:33

Forecast on Sky News for Chertsey tomorrow looks ok. Am I looking in the right place? Hope so.
smile

MrsSippie Fri 21-Mar-14 09:20:43

Ooh I'll have another look!

yup keepcarlm

Were planning taking a change of clothes in case of rain or more likely water rides so something dry and warm as sadlt not that warm

Oblomov Fri 21-Mar-14 13:34:16

MEETING UP

TOMORROW

LC Hammer sent me a nice PM. We have exchange mobile numbers and plan to meet up tomorrow.

Assuming that we will all be spending our £50 lunch vouchers in one of the restaurants, we should see eachother then. Fancy that?

I don't have a MN scarf.
But I may wear a silver, full of holes, crotchet one. Does that help?
Probably not!!

Trying to think of other ways to make myself obvious!!
Any suggestions!!

Dh(large) and Me (little ) - Little and large!!
Will be with ds1(10) and ds2(5). Ds2 has ginger hair and is VERY loud, so is not hard to miss.

Am looking forward to trying to find Korma and HumanCatapult
And MrsMot.

Keepcalmanddrinkwine Fri 21-Mar-14 13:37:43

Oh yes, lunch. I always take our own picnic on days out so the fact we are having lunch there is just as exciting for my 2 as the rides! Possibly more so.f

Oblomov Fri 21-Mar-14 13:40:15

Likewise Wine.
Will still take snacks, because my 2 eat like gannets.

But the idea of £50 of lunch vouchers was just a TOTAL bonus.

Oblomov Fri 21-Mar-14 13:46:59

Just thought I would give directions.
Seeing as I live here.

There are 2 options.

1)Come off M25 at Junction 13. Staines. You do not go into Staines city centre itself. Bypass the city centre. Past the sainsburys on your right.
2 more roundabouts, both going straight ahead, you get to the Thorpe park Site.

2)Leaving M25 at Junction 11. Chertsey. Head toward Chertsey, going past St Peters hospital. Roundabout where there is a Hungry horse(Harvester/Beefeater type restaurants), on your left. The next roundabout is the Thorpe Park roundabout.

See you all there!!

MrsSippie Fri 21-Mar-14 13:53:26

I guess we may see each other in the special bit where we get our stuff? I will be so boringly dressed in jeans and coat, I'll just blend in! I also have LC mob number though, so will hopefully find a few of you.

I am so worried though as I am one of those paranoid on motorways types sad dh driving and it's m ways all the way. We are leaving at about 6am so it won't be too bad hopefully! Gah.

Keepcalmanddrinkwine Fri 21-Mar-14 14:39:10

We're hoping to be there for opening but it's a bit of a drive. Will be lovely though, as DD was born at St Peter's, so will be excited driving past. Used to live in Addlestone but moved away nearly 11 years ago. smile

Slapntickleothewenches Fri 21-Mar-14 15:18:55

Just a word of warning to anyone with DC's on the 1.4m border. I have just heard from angelie that DCs will be measured with no shoes on despite height restrictions at theme parks always being done with shoes on and no mention of this in the MN literature
I think I will have a very disappointed DS as I fear without shoes he will fall under the 1.4m. I will measure him when he gets home and if he won't make it will let him decide what to do <sees a traumatic evening ahead> hmm

LCHammer Fri 21-Mar-14 15:38:28

I'm sure they can still go, just not on the 1.4m rides.

LCHammer Fri 21-Mar-14 15:45:46

I look forward to meeting as many others as possible. Maybe around lunchtime or at some of the rides? I have a couple of numbers. I don't know what I'll be wearing (apart from v bright fuschia lipstick).

booface Fri 21-Mar-14 15:50:38

We are all so excited! Forecast looks ok and we plan to get there not too long after opening time to make the most of it (and beat the traffic!). Will look out for any of you. Have fun everyone!

schilke Fri 21-Mar-14 15:52:26

Measuring makes me nervous. DD1 is bang on 140cm without shoes - I have measured her about 5 times!

Slapntickleothewenches Fri 21-Mar-14 15:56:48

I'm not sure what's worse though LC, not going at all or going and seeing the big rides that you're not allowed on after thinking that you were (and watching your DSSis going on them) hmm

LCHammer Fri 21-Mar-14 15:58:15

Will he be just over 1.4 by the end of the annual passes? You'd still make good use of them.

Slapntickleothewenches Fri 21-Mar-14 16:11:45

He will be LC and TBH he would get on the rides tomorrow if they were using measuring at the queue as they do normally.
And it's easy for me to say "don't worry we'll come back in a couple months" Not so easy to accept when you are 9 years old though.

MrsSippie Fri 21-Mar-14 16:42:44

Just measured mydd and she's 138 shock I honestly thought she was 140. She's not too fussed about the big rides luckily but ds who is about 175 can't wait!!

We're going to be there tomorrow, so excited and the dcs cannot wait! We're also coming from Cambridge. I have 5 dcs but only taking the elder two and the baby, dd3 who is 2 is staying with my parents for the day and ds2 (7) will be with his dad for the day (exh). So we'll have dh and myself, dd1 (12), ds1 (10) and dd4 (5 months).

Dd1 is well over the 140 but measured ds1 again today (paranoid!) and he's just on 140 without shoes, phew. He would have been gutted not to be able to go on some of the rides. They've both been looking the rides up and have decided what they want to do and when, I foresee a long day of standing around holding stuff while they have a fantastic time grin

MrsSippie Fri 21-Mar-14 17:21:02

Yay! Cambridge person #2! What time are you leaving?

MrsSippie Fri 21-Mar-14 17:22:06

Just packing a rucksack of clean clothes! Dh thinks I'm mad...

Slapntickleothewenches Fri 21-Mar-14 17:39:38

Well further measuring reveals that DS may just make it with a pair of thick socks and a good nights sleep (he is all for lying down on the journey just so "my spine doesn't get too crushed" grin)
We had tears at the thought of not getting on the big rides but I have promised we will return another day if the worst comes to the worst.
We will be leaving at 7 as we are travelling from Dorset- the notoriously bad travelling DSD is apparently feeling poorly. God give me strength <weeps>

Dh reckons we'll need to leave about 8.30, I think we'll aim for earlier as it takes forever to actually get out of the house! Going to make some sandwiches tonight for the car, dd1 has asked if she can take 4...I bet she'll probably manage to eat all of those as well as lunch there too and no doubt ds1 will want the same.

Also taking spare clothes and lots of changes for the baby, I'm really excited! What time are you leaving?

wheretoyougonow Fri 21-Mar-14 17:46:12

ONE MORE SLEEP grin

Kormachameleon Fri 21-Mar-14 17:53:01

I will probably wear the MN scarf to make it easy for you all to spot me grin

Kormachameleon Fri 21-Mar-14 17:56:49

And typically i had to get emergency drs appointment yesterday for the lovely and well timed throat and chest infection o have suddenly acquired

but in still going despite not being able to actually breath

glendatheveryexcitedwitch Fri 21-Mar-14 18:08:03

I am in a panic - I can't for the life of me remember what I put dd down as height wise but checking now she is 1.35 cm DS on the other hand is 1.60 but is 14 - I've checked all the mn literature and it doesn't say about being over 1.40 AND under 12??

MrsSippie Fri 21-Mar-14 18:42:48

We're leaving at about 6.30 cheese due to my paranoia of motorways! We'll be there by around 8.30 I reckon!

Also a bit worried about the height/age thing. I'm sure I had to give ages though. Dd is 8 and ds is 14. He's well over 1.4 and she is just under with out shoes sad will we get thrown out?

I don't think it opens until 10 does it? That's a long time to be waiting around!

I think you'll be fine MrsSippie smile

MrsSippie Fri 21-Mar-14 19:25:57

we'll have a walk or something! DH always likes to leave early as well. We're a bit odd like that!

glendatheveryexcitedwitch Fri 21-Mar-14 19:31:54

Mrssippie - same ages as my 2!!! I'll be pushing my youngest in a red bugaboo with beige hood and wearing my greenwich uni hoodie with my arm knitted scarf - no idea if it meets mn standards or not???

Hope it isn't persistent rain all day!!!

Look forward to seeing you all tomorrow xxxgrin

marsybum Fri 21-Mar-14 20:27:22

I've just measured my twins and they're a little bit smaller than I thought :-( without shoes my DD is 139cm and ds 137 - am worried we're going to drive for 3 1/2 hours and be turned away now :-( I honestly thought they were tall enough as they were going on rides where you have to be 130cm 2 years ago and have shot up since then - not sure whether we should even try to go now sad they'll be absolutely distraught if we can't get in sad

Slapntickleothewenches Fri 21-Mar-14 22:27:39

marsy we are banking on a good nights sleep (you shrink during the day so fingers crossed) and thick socks. He has also mentioned hair gel but I shudder to imagine how much we would have to use in order that it's not squashed flat at measuring hmm
TBH if you paid for entry your DTs would be measured at each ride entrance, wearing shoes. I assume the no shoes thing is to stop people putting tall shoes on their DCs as apparently the first 500 children there also get free entry.

dd is smack on 140 . Odd that measuring in barefeet thought that was just the first 500 ? but I would then imagine on the rides be measuring them wearing shoes so be ok

glenda sure the under 12 and height thing is just the 500 first free nothing at all about it in our emails

Kormachameleon Fri 21-Mar-14 23:07:05

marsy im not sure tbh. the entry criteria is for children over 140cm and yours are someway under that. Not sure if they will actually turn you away but there isnt a lot that your children can go on so probably not much point given how far away it is

Kormachameleon Fri 21-Mar-14 23:08:05

your DD may get away with it if she stands up reallytall but your DS wont be allowed on the rides

THey can't stop you going into the park, they just won't be able to go on the thrill rides. Most of the other rides are 120 and over so they'll be fine for that

Kormachameleon Sat 22-Mar-14 00:13:17

well no they cant stop you going in the park but they may ask you to pay for entry given that the competition criteria is for children over 1.4

fingers crossed they dont check x

Hadn't thought of that Korma. Fingers crossed then!

marsybum Sat 22-Mar-14 05:37:43

I'm hoping I've measured DD wrong as I couldn't find a measuring tape and I used a ruler - and when I look at the 30cm ruler there's 1/2 a cm or so in excess plastic, so by pacing it end to end against the wall I might have set the bar a couple of cm too high? Tbh DS is a shall we say more reserved child and in the last hasn't liked anything upside down or high! fingers crossed....

Am up about grab shower and then wake the Dc whp im sure5 will bounce out of bed

power chair charged up .

MrsSippie Sat 22-Mar-14 06:43:55

Just about to leave! See you all there grin

Nerfmother Sat 22-Mar-14 06:53:23

Those of you worried about height, the competition was for families with at least one child meeting the 1.4 size. so if one does you haven't done anything wrong if one doesn't.

glendatheveryexcitedwitch Sat 22-Mar-14 07:07:56

Morning - thanks catapult that's what I thought!!!

Weather looks fine except between 10-4 grrrrrrrrr!!!!

I'm up just packing bags and ironing clothes before I wake everyone up with bacon butties!!!

See you soon x

Keepcalmanddrinkwine Sat 22-Mar-14 07:14:30

Morning all! See you in a bit. smile

schilke Sat 22-Mar-14 08:16:54

Same as humancatapult - dd is dead on 140cm. I keep worrying though. Clarinet exam to do first....

FanFuckingTastic Sat 22-Mar-14 08:37:45

DS is dead on too. He'd best not slouch, lol.

I couldn't get a scooter, so I'll be sporting my purple walking stick and purple scarf.

In the car! Hopefully there for around 10.30, might miss the opening queues then. Please no rain! I'm wearing a pink too and blue jeans, probably a photo on my profile actually! I'll be the one breastfeeding dd4 throughout the day grin

its busy but got our tickets

glendatheveryexcitedwitch Sat 22-Mar-14 10:54:02

Got here at just after 10 don't worry about kids sizes they're not measuring ours!!! Fab goody bag with ponchos and the gold pass is fast track on all rides all day!!! Kids are v pleased!!!

Oh and the sun is shining!!!

If you see me with my goody bag (I heart Thorpe park) wave or say hello!!!

Kormachameleon Sat 22-Mar-14 13:23:21

We are here ! I have the scarf on and a black cardi - say hi if you see me it would be lovely to meet some of you.
hope everyone has a fab day x

I spotted at least one mn at calypso BBQ place .Were still here feeling be one of last to leave my older 3 are having a blast

schilke Sat 22-Mar-14 16:13:16

We're home. Had a great time. Had to leave early as dh went and got himself a gig (how inconsiderate) and needed to get to the rehearsal.

Had a fab time. I spotted a mumsnetter near Logger's Leap. We'll be going back soon - only 30 mins drive from us.

booface Sat 22-Mar-14 17:44:09

Had a wonderful day and enjoyed chatting with a couple of mums netters! What a great day out. Don't think the huge rides are for me as I had to keep my eyes tight shut in the X ride…! But the boys loved it and up for more next time.

Oblomov Sat 22-Mar-14 17:55:11

Back home.
Saw a lovely mn'ers dh is the swarm queue.
Met LCHammer at lunch. Sorry fir rushing off.
Saw lots of other people who I was sure were mn'ers but was a bit too shy to say. Saw lots if the pink bags!!

Had the best best time.

Oblomov Sat 22-Mar-14 17:56:47

So if your dd was on swarm, with your dh, this morning. Then it was me your dh was talking to!! And your dd doesn't know your username, because I asked her!!

Oblomov Sat 22-Mar-14 17:57:33

And your dd is 12. And you have another dd, who you were with. Possibly 10?

Nerfmother Sat 22-Mar-14 18:04:53

We are back. Am going to name change for the feedback thread with photos. It was awash with bags and angry birds poking out! Lunch in the bistro had mumsnetters either side but no one spoke to me and I didn't want to approach them! Then one waved at me and I spoke to another one who replaced one table - like a conveyor belt !
Did point at someone in a spotty queue while waiting for Rush - hope you realised I was recognising you!

We've been back about 45 mins now, had a great time, they loved it! I saw a couple of MNetters and had a brief chat with one between the tidal one and another water ride.

Didn't see you at lunch but you said you saw me <waves>

Nerfmother Sat 22-Mar-14 18:13:11

Left hand side of the bistro, table 17, about 12.30 smile

We were there around then, table 22. Pram with baby dd4, dh, me, blonde haired ds1 (10) and plumish haired dd1 (12).

Oh and dh's just said we were at the bar and grill place so maybe not the same one!

Nerfmother Sat 22-Mar-14 19:27:00

dd 1 with glasses? Lovely cute baby in pink? We sat in the middle of you and another mumsnetter who ordered burgers not that I was staring at people

Yes dd with glasses and baby had a pink long sleeved top on with blue bottoms and very little hair grin I think you must have been behind me, I wondered what baby dd kept pulling off from feeding to look behind me at grin. Should have said hello!

MrsSippie Sat 22-Mar-14 19:46:46

Just got back after nightmare journeys there and back! Got hopelessly lost on the way and not much better home. Her. Alsonsaw lots of the bags, met LCHammer and shared a water ride with one of you grin sea all had a great time apart from me wussing out of any scary rides! Dd was braver than me and went on one with dh. Ds went on most of them but swarm broke down just as he was about to get on. Loved the fast track passes!

FanFuckingTastic Sat 22-Mar-14 20:06:02

I was rubbish at finding other Mumsnetters, I spotted one nice lady at the cafe and our daughters ran around with their angry birds. We went on the same ride too. But I was having a hard time keeping the girl child under control and not melting down, so I found it hard to make conversation. Would be nice to actually arrange to meet some people next time for the Angry Birds visit.

At the end there was loads of you, but I was absolutely exhausted and my daughter was being miserable so I had to just get my head down and get to the car. Definitely going to bring a scooter next time. I did have someone at the gates recognise my walking stick and say hello, didn't catch your name though. Wasn't sure if introducing myself to every one as FanFuckingTastic would sound rude, there is a problem with the whole naughty words in real life.

I loved our day out, and will get to telling all about it in the morning after a long sleep and some painkillers.

glendatheveryexcitedwitch Sat 22-Mar-14 21:17:46

We left at 6pm and got home at 7pm with sleepy kids and tired feet!!!

Met a lovely mnetter while I waited for dh and ds at the bottom of the swarm!!

Saw lots of pink bags and smiled at a few but didn't want to seem like a loon also dd2 was hard to entertain as I didn't realise there was only the carousel for her to go on - she wanted to be out of the buggy exploring and climbing but we were dashing around here there and everywhere!! Dd1, ds and dh made the most of the rides and had great fun.

We went to eat but didn't realise most places were under just canopies and more outdoorsy so we went to Pizza Hut which was like a plague of locusts - rude locusts!!!

Did everyone get their annual passes today? When we got there Zoe said as it was busy get them next time we go??

We got our annual passes about 5.30 as was a lot calmer by then was a few Mumsnetters in there doing the same to.Ds3 has gone to bed with his angry bird but I keep hearing random voices from upstairs as talks when squeezed

Keepcalmanddrinkwine Sat 22-Mar-14 22:07:01

Phew! We're home. Absolutely shattered but what a fab day. Met a few lovely Mumsnetters. Thank you to the one that lets us share her table when I needed a coffee break.

Oblomov, I think that was my DH & DD. They said they were chatting to another Mumsnetter but DD said she couldn't remember my name.

It would be lovely to do a group picnic on Angry Birds Day if anyone else fancies it. Hopefully it will be warmer so we can make a bit of a base with blankets etc.

Having a glass of wine now after a lot of driving, so my review and photos will have to be tomorrow.
