TheOtherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 26-Jun-13 16:51:52

As part of our partnership with B&Q, we're looking for 20 MNers who want to wave farewell to their unloved garden. Is it more of a jungle than a lawn? A patio that's seen better days? Or just a wizened window box?

Here is what B&Q say about their unloved gardens initiative: "This summer, we're launching a new initiative to help Britain say goodbye to its unloved rooms and gardens. Most homes have one - a spare room that's more of a cupboard, a tired and broken bathroom from a different era, even an overgrown garden that's become a jungle. With our vast range of home decoration products and simple expert advice, we want more people to see that making a big difference doesn't need to be difficult or expensive. Whether it's picking the right look, choosing the right products, at the right price or simply finding out how to make it happen, we're making sure you'll find it all under one roof at B&Q."

If you're selected to take part you'll:
- Be sent a £300 B&Q gift card to spend as you wish on materials to transform your unloved garden
- Need to be available to complete your garden revamp between 5-21 July (we appreciate that's not tonnes of time so please only sign up if you're up for the challenge!)
- Write feedback on how your revamp is going during that time on a thread on MN
- Need to send in photos to MNHQ of before, during and after the revamp

10 of the 20 participants may also need to film their revamp process on their smartphone (via an app we'll need you to download). Those MNers will receive an additional £25 B&Q gift card as a thank you for doing filming.

B&Q would also like participants to attend a You Can Do It class in store if possible - this would be free of charge but they're only available in certain stores. This isn't essential to taking part but please indicate on the sign up form (link below) which store you could get to if you would like to attend.

If you'd like to take part, please sign up here.

Any queries, please post them here.

Thanks and good luck

Crap i'm on holiday sad

cantspel Wed 26-Jun-13 17:44:52

Does this include front gardens?

Done. I realise my ideas sound very boring.

Hoping the session thingy would give inspiration.

LegoAcupuncture Wed 26-Jun-13 20:07:10

Oooo done! Would love this!

MildlyMiserable Wed 26-Jun-13 20:45:56

My garden could do with a revamp, when my DF mowed the lawn this weekend he also mowed away the majority of the plants bordering it!

Missymjf Wed 26-Jun-13 21:09:11

Done would love to get involved in this x

ouryve Wed 26-Jun-13 21:11:42

Hah! Our garden's still a building site from when we had the garage built 2 years ago. I don't think 3 weeks will quite cover this one! (And I still haven't physically recovered form decorating the boys' room at lightning speed!)

Openyourheart Wed 26-Jun-13 21:16:06

Done. I'd love to tackle the mess of a corner that I have.

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit Wed 26-Jun-13 21:41:04

Done! My garden is sad and barren.

threesypeesy Wed 26-Jun-13 22:00:26

Done! Would love this family project to kick off the summer holidays and leave us plenty of time to enjoy it if lucky enough

Done. Hope I am lucky enough to take part. I really want to revamp the garden that I have just been given (not long moved) and especially as the fence blew down a month ago! D:

BlackeyedSusan Wed 26-Jun-13 22:29:56

a bit bloody tough if you do not own a smart phone.

Dysgu Wed 26-Jun-13 22:41:51

BlackeyedSusan I read it that you only need a smartphone if you agree to video. I don't own one and really really have everything crossed to win this one!

Mumsnet DP does have a smartphone if it is a necessity to being chosen - I don't know what it is apart from the fact it has an apple on the back!

Please choose us - we are sooooooo in need of getting our garden sorted - and it is only a small space so £300 would really go a long way and would make such a difference.

UserError Wed 26-Jun-13 23:00:49

Sent! Sorry for my wall of text, I hope you take my rambling as proof of enthusiasm and not proof that I need a straitjacket.

Babycarmen Thu 27-Jun-13 11:50:07

This would be perfect for us! FX!

Tee2072 Thu 27-Jun-13 15:07:12

Damn. I'll be on holiday. I am also in a rented house.

ldt87 Thu 27-Jun-13 15:07:43

Ooh just entered this. Fingers crossed, I'd be so excited to sort my garden out, it's very much in need of a complete overhaul.

Madondogs Thu 27-Jun-13 15:11:04

Done! Want this SO much, my garden is in desperate need of a loving touchgrin

WibbleBoy Thu 27-Jun-13 15:15:19

I've been meaning to sort out our bombsite garden for ages now. It's in dire need of a path, fence and some steps, and some weeding, and a tidy up... and possibly some furniture; though I did actually manage to get a gate up last year. This would be a definite incentive ;)

Forgetfulmog Thu 27-Jun-13 15:25:08

Ooh I would love to win this! I cant sit out in my garden atm as its just a bit of a state & full of cat poo. We really need to re-turf & get some new furniture & this would really help us to do that.

I've done it.

My garden is an embarrassment.sad

OMG so hope I am chosen, we would be sooooooo over the moon!!

Done! Fingers crossed!!

Glitterfairys Thu 27-Jun-13 16:36:01

I would love to revamp our garden and make it a safe and enjoyable space for my boys to play in. Fingers crossed were picked 😃

Oh, this would be a dream come true - previous owners just laid down uneven concrete and paving stones with poor garden beds mostly of rubble. The kids still love it with their plastic bits and chalk but I'd love proper sitting area and play stuffs and some storage.

OpheliaBumps Thu 27-Jun-13 16:54:41

Done, would love this as ours is empty of plants, and full of kids' toys!

smilingthroughgrittedteeth Thu 27-Jun-13 17:07:48

Me please, dp and I would love to sort our garden and it's tiny so £300 would transform it completely

hurricanewyn Thu 27-Jun-13 17:49:46

Done - fingers crossed so tight!

k8vincent Thu 27-Jun-13 17:54:22

Got very excited to see this this am. Am hoping we might be able to sort out the concrete mess outside and do something about all our uneven slabs. Then I might actually be able to go in the garden without sighing!

Lotty8 Thu 27-Jun-13 17:55:53

Done I think :s is there a confirmation or anything? Just went back to the previous page when I clicked send so not sure if it did.

Messandmayhem Thu 27-Jun-13 18:29:59

Done, I'd love this, sorting our garden would give us a much needed lift and give us somewhere to send the kids to play when the sitting room can't take it any longer!

DonutForMyself Thu 27-Jun-13 18:59:00

Done, fingers crossed! Mine looks like a prison yard, no plants, surrounded by brick walls. It would be lovely to have a garden to be proud of this summer - I could invite people for a BBQ without embarrassment!

JaquelineHyde Thu 27-Jun-13 19:03:00

I was just in the middle of doing the form and my laptop went mad and leapt to another webpage confused

Could you possibly check if an incomplete form has been submitted and if so delete it.

I will fill the form in again now and submit it, please don't delete the fully completed one grin

littlemonkeychops Thu 27-Jun-13 19:31:24

Done, ooo exciting!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud Thu 27-Jun-13 19:42:51

TheOtherHelen -

This sounds fabulous - the MN gardening posse are always trying to recruit others to the joys of gardening - but could you also persuade B&Q to offer freebies incentives a competition for those of us who are already keen gardeners but may still need a bit of a boost?

thanks <-- home-grown of course

hotair Thu 27-Jun-13 19:49:05

Signed up- was just telling my dh how desperate I was to fix the garden- fingers crossed this could be the windfall I needed!

rholo Thu 27-Jun-13 20:29:50

Done! This would be fab. Our patio/gravel/collection of bright plastic tat is long overdue a bit of tlc.

chocoreturns Thu 27-Jun-13 21:58:47

ooh this would literally transform our summer!! Done grin

redwellybluewelly Thu 27-Jun-13 22:08:26

Cor - sounds fab!

5madthings Thu 27-Jun-13 22:41:47

Entered this would be fab!

LackaDAISYcal Thu 27-Jun-13 22:45:28

Oh, I can't commit to that timescale sad

theroseofwait Thu 27-Jun-13 23:04:33

Done! Fingers crossed that the newly chopped down jungle has not given it's life in vain!

Wearegoingtobedlehem Thu 27-Jun-13 23:26:14

Done, crossing fingers and toes! Would really relish this opportunity!

LuisGarcia Fri 28-Jun-13 00:49:26

wishes really hard

Spirael Fri 28-Jun-13 08:53:48

Will B&Q be lenient with timescales if it rains solidly for the transformation period? wink Given what summer has offered for the past few years...

Mind you, if chosen we'd be laying turf - so the rain would be a good thing for that! But not so good for installing a security light or painting the fence.

I applied on behalf of my garden last time around and wasn't selected... Hopefully this time I'll be luckier! grin

KatieBMumsnet (MNHQ) Fri 28-Jun-13 10:41:23

JaquelineHyde we have your completed form, thank you
BlackeyedSusan we only need 10 of the 20 testers to record videos on their smartphones so please do apply and say you don't want to take part in video feedback on the form.

Good luck flowers

So so want to win this, so my garden can actually look less like a bombshell and more like a garden

Done. School is offically out for summer today and my kids would love to help out with a project like this over the holidays.

charlieandlola Fri 28-Jun-13 13:15:55

Done !

IslaMann Fri 28-Jun-13 14:59:05

done, fingers crossed !

IslaMann Fri 28-Jun-13 14:59:50

Though I never win anything sad

JaquelineHyde Fri 28-Jun-13 15:53:17

MNHQ Baring in mind how tight the timescales are on this, do you know when you will be notifying those who have been selected?

Done. Would love to do this, my garden is very boring and miserable, needs some TLC and this would give us the kick up the bum that we need to do it!

Doughnutmaestro Fri 28-Jun-13 20:46:29

Oh well balls!
The exact time we will be on the only holiday we are likely to ever get. :-(

Dysgu Fri 28-Jun-13 21:01:58

I would so LOVE this - today I have been studying gardens on the school run and then went for a nose round B&Q to see if the ideas would work!

Everything crossed!

done, i'd like to do my front garden
and no I don't mean my pom pom, I mean my actual garden grin

bet I don't bloody get picked

JakeBullet Sat 29-Jun-13 08:51:40

I have applied, I applied last time as well for my garden but suspect B&Q looked out of the window at the rain and said "no way" before selecting all indoor projects. grin

Done! <<UnGreen fingers crossed>>

Done. I'd love to pretty up my barren scrap of practicality!

CheshireSplat Sat 29-Jun-13 14:02:39

Done. Fingers crossed...

timidviper Sat 29-Jun-13 14:05:31

Our garden has the bare bones of a good place it just needs a bit of love to put some soul into it.

florencebabyjo Sat 29-Jun-13 15:44:09

We would love this! My back garden has been taken over by the DC's, climbing frames, sandpits, swings. You get the picture. But my front garden could be a little sanctuary and maybe with a bit of a make over give the impression that civilised folks live in our house after all! I am imagining roses and lavender paths, maybe even geraniums in a pot by the door!

Link is not working for me. ?

TheFutureMrsB Sat 29-Jun-13 19:56:51

Link not working for me either sad

ChocChaffinch Sat 29-Jun-13 21:54:00

ooooh fingers crossed we need so much doing, would be a great kick start ...

Mummybookworm Sat 29-Jun-13 21:56:39

Done, will keep everything crossed smile

halestone Sat 29-Jun-13 22:47:28

Done, would love this as my 'garden' is a patch of soil with weeds in and some very unloved fences.

Snazzywaitingforsummer Sun 30-Jun-13 00:46:51

JakeBullet Sun 30-Jun-13 06:46:23

Not sure I will get picked as my one was too generalised. Suspect B&Q will go for clear visions of what people want to achieve.

I am really looking forward to the feedback thread though and to seeing what people do with their gardens.

5madthings Sun 30-Jun-13 09:30:05

I have just realised i dont think i completed question 6 properly in that i described our garden now but not what i want to do with it!!! Duhhh mnhq any chance i can email you the answer to no 6 again so it can be added to my form?!!

Jamillalliamilli Sun 30-Jun-13 15:39:20

The link refused to work before, and finally worked earlier today, but then I’m pretty sure it crashed as I pressed send, and has gone back to not working. :-(

I have all the questions and answers to them saved, don’t suppose there’s any chance of emailing them is there?

Link now working for me.

Hope I get picked, my garden could do with a bit of help.

JakeBullet Sun 30-Jun-13 16:58:09

I didn't get a confirmation either, just a straight return to the home page so reckon your one has gone through. Good luck, sounds a great idea.

littlemonkeychops Sun 30-Jun-13 17:26:02

Oooooo still so excited, since applying yesterday been browsing the b&q website for more ideas. Knew our garden was feeling a bit unloved buf it's only whdn i started thinking about this thread that i see just how sorryvit's looking, especially when you start looking at neighbours green flowery gardens.

Looking forward to reading the feedback thread, will we be able to see everyones before and after shots? Hope so.

halestone Sun 30-Jun-13 18:05:21

Has anyone been chosen yet? Just wondering if i should stop hoping its me grin

Lilliana Sun 30-Jun-13 18:44:40

Our garden is a disaster. Please pick us as i need a kick up the backside to get it sorted.

lorka Sun 30-Jun-13 19:18:54

Would absolutely love this and my daughter is so excited to be able to help in her little garden too. Fingers and toes crossed!! Xxgrin

TheFutureMrsB Mon 01-Jul-13 00:00:52

Link worked but not sure if it actually went through! sad

Nerfmother Mon 01-Jul-13 07:40:13

Lorka -make sure you get picked before you tell her!

My garden currently has weeds taller than my 3 year old! Would definitely be up for this. Have already mentally bought my new garden grin

ratbagcatbag Mon 01-Jul-13 14:09:20

grin madamtwo swords - me too, thinking of all that lovely storage stuff I want and pots and planters etc. smile

Mnhq - have the lucky people been picked yet? Being as its due to start in four days and the winners need to shop grin

ratbagcatbag Mon 01-Jul-13 14:15:44

Oops realised I'd not actually entered, doh. Just done it. smile if I get picked I hope dd naps a lot (16 weeks) so I can get all my grand plans put into place. smile

ratbagcatbag Mon 01-Jul-13 14:22:53

Hmmm, MNHQ can you check you received my entry? I didn't get confirmation? Cheers ratbagcatbag

JakeBullet Mon 01-Jul-13 14:54:29

Might check email....just in case grin

ChocChaffinch Mon 01-Jul-13 14:58:22

any news......;?? smile
<eyes dilapidation>

when will the choosen ones be announced please?

ChocChaffinch Mon 01-Jul-13 20:07:04

florencebabyjo Mon 01-Jul-13 20:25:39

I can't walk up my path without imaging how it would look all country gardenified! At the moment it looks a bit abandoned and overgrown. Up to now I've kept telling myself it's a great haven for wildlife but now is the time for change! Hurry up mumsnet and choose!

ChocChaffinch Mon 01-Jul-13 20:46:54

d'you reckon the giftcards will be useable online for the lucky few?

ChocChaffinch Mon 01-Jul-13 20:53:32

oh lordy lord I've been on B&Q website and the sheds are luscious.

LegoAcupuncture Mon 01-Jul-13 21:09:15

I love the anticipation of threads like these. Good luck everyone.

ratbagcatbag Mon 01-Jul-13 21:29:27

Haha choc, I have allocated £100 of my currently wishful thinking gift card on garden storage. Sheds would use yup too much money straight away and I want planters too.

Suburban Mon 01-Jul-13 21:29:29

Oh I would love to win this. Our garden appears to have been very badly done in the style of ground force and then just left for 15years. Wonder when the winners will be announced!

DH is eyeing up sheds too...I have a feeling that this could prove expensive if we were selected!

ratbagcatbag Tue 02-Jul-13 07:00:31

<wanders in nonchalantly after checking emails and pms this morning and realising there's nothing there>

JakeBullet Tue 02-Jul-13 07:11:36

Wishing everyone good luck, maybe today is the day you (and hopefully me) will hear good news.

Snazzywaitingforsummer Tue 02-Jul-13 07:31:40

<glares at weeds>

<checks email>

smilingthroughgrittedteeth Tue 02-Jul-13 07:53:07

I have a feeling there's going to be a lot of very disappointed MNetters sad

I've been checking my emails, I'd so love to be chosen, we've been planning what we would like to do with the garden since we moved in 2 years ago but haven't been able to afford it, this would be an amazing opportunity.

florencebabyjo Tue 02-Jul-13 08:27:21

You can feel the excitement levels rising! I would so love to do this, could be an exciting weekend!

ratbagcatbag Tue 02-Jul-13 09:25:09

No email yet sad

JakeBullet Tue 02-Jul-13 10:40:36

I think they all have to go to B&Q for approval so not expecting to hear anything today tbh. I am philosophical, all my plans remain plans and will be done eventually. This would allow me to do it all a bit quicker though.

ratbagcatbag Tue 02-Jul-13 10:53:32

Bugger, I didn't put tons of detail in as dd (16weeks) was whining and was worried it would shut before I'd entered, mine was quite vague. sad oh well, never mind. Will know for next time that war and peace is required grin

ratbagcatbag Tue 02-Jul-13 10:54:31

I wonder how many people entered? I tried to work it out, but I suppose not everyone puts info on the chat thread.

I didn't put a lot of detail in either. I thought it said you didn't have to be specific.

Good luck everyone. Can't wait to see your

5madthings Tue 02-Jul-13 11:37:10

Mine wasn't detailed either, I don't think it has to be. I don't think we will hear today, maybe tomorrow?

I am not holding out much hope, but you have to be in it to win it!

ratbagcatbag Tue 02-Jul-13 11:45:58

True mad, I've just won £10 on my husbands deodorant can, enter a code and they gave you a driver and position in the formula one, if it came in exact they send you a cheque for £10. DH laughed when I retrieved his can from recycling to enter. Like you say you ave to be in it to win.

<keeps everything crossed> smile

JaquelineHyde Tue 02-Jul-13 14:24:14

I bet the lucky 20 were notified days ago but have been so busy working in their gardens they haven't come on to tell us all yet grin

My inbox is still empty, as it was an hour ago when I checked grin hmm

LegoAcupuncture Tue 02-Jul-13 14:53:01

My email box just pinged several times, got extremely excited, but just some NAS stuff.

Snazzywaitingforsummer Tue 02-Jul-13 15:10:22

<looks desolately out at the scrubby lawn outside in the rain>

<looks hopefully at inbox>

<looks wearily back at rain>

LIZS Tue 02-Jul-13 16:22:41

Still no response ? <Looks forlornly at decrepit shed>

ChocChaffinch Tue 02-Jul-13 19:52:40

oooosh they're obviously locked into some planter-filled bunker; weighing us all up.

UserError Tue 02-Jul-13 23:40:34

I think they should do a Next Top Model type reveal: divide us all into groups, then tell the groups whether or not they've won and then the losers get to cry on Elle McPwhoarsome or Tyra Banks. I wouldn't mind so much if I didn't win, if I got to cry on Tyra Banks.

JaquelineHyde Wed 03-Jul-13 00:02:07

Can I cry on and rub against Tyson Beckford please. If so them I am IN!

ratbagcatbag Wed 03-Jul-13 02:12:18

But then I'd have to be one of those people " thank you so much for an amazing opportunity, it's been a terrific journey" sniff, sniff, sob, all the time glaring daggers at you fortunate biatches who are still in the running.

Lotty8 Wed 03-Jul-13 05:40:10

It's got to be today surely?! Not sure I can take it much more!

WibbleBoy Wed 03-Jul-13 06:20:52

Well; with the unloved rooms one, people were notified on the first day of the "fix" period. If this follows suit then it could be as late as Friday.

If anything, least this promotion has finally convinced me to get the mess sorted, even if not selected.

JakeBullet Wed 03-Jul-13 06:57:06

The last one gave me "vision", this one has clarified that vision. it will get done but might take longer if I don't get picked.
Not expecting to be chosen as my "vision" wasn't written down clearly enough.
Will be good to see what other people do though so will hang on I. This thread...or the feedback one.

ChocChaffinch Wed 03-Jul-13 09:06:29

will have no fingernails by Friday. however it's forecast hot hot hot so gardening time ahoy there's lots of stuff I can be doing with zero funds.

florencebabyjo Wed 03-Jul-13 09:11:45

Up until now I have always avoided checking the posts every ten minutes. I think I got overexcited last time B & Q did this and now I can't stop!

KatieBMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 03-Jul-13 10:08:08

Hi all, just to let you know we'll be in touch with those selected tomorrow. Good luck grin

Glitterfairys Wed 03-Jul-13 10:12:27

Fingers crossed !!

UserError Wed 03-Jul-13 13:33:24

Is now the time to mention that I am a very good cook? <bats eyelashes>

JaquelineHyde Wed 03-Jul-13 14:28:07

Sod the cooking, bribe them with wine

ChocChaffinch Wed 03-Jul-13 14:32:46

yep bet the B&Q'ers in the bunker love to party

ohhhh not long to go now then!!

lorka Wed 03-Jul-13 14:38:31

Good luck everyone!! grin

ChocChaffinch Wed 03-Jul-13 14:48:28

yeah grin good luck can't wait to see the pics of your gardens nosey face

JakeBullet Wed 03-Jul-13 15:43:34

I didn't get picked last time be fair I wanted to do my garden then as well. It did suggest garden as one of the options but it was all indoor projects in the end. I reckon B&Q looked out of the window at the time and thought "ooh no way" for those of us who wanted to do gardens.

I was in B&Q today looking at the decking boards. So hope I get chosen now, would love to have a go at building them smile

Ohhelpohnoitsa Wed 03-Jul-13 23:14:02

I so hope I get lucky here. Just forked out £420 getting a harcore base down for the climbing frame to go on. Run out if ££ now. Will have to construct the thing ourselves (instructions day 2 people 6-8hrs) ouch. & there is certainly no £ left to pretty up the adult bit - will be a vase if shoving down some old patio slabs and the finishing touches will just have to wait untul next summer. sad

I've just spent my bath fantasizing of a shed painted to look like a beach hut with deck chairs that ds and I could camp out by all summer. I'll enjoy it until the bubble bursts tomorrow!

halestone Thu 04-Jul-13 01:52:20

Ooo i've got my fingers and toes crossed that i'm chosen.

JakeBullet Thu 04-Jul-13 05:56:04

Ooh fan, that sounds lovely. If you get picked I'd love to see the photos.

JaquelineHyde Thu 04-Jul-13 06:56:29

So today is the day, who will the lucky 20 be and will they do as good a job as we all believe we could do ourselves? grin

Messandmayhem Thu 04-Jul-13 07:04:04

Ooooh, I thought we found out yesterday and had resigned myself to not getting my garden made beautiful this year! Fingers crossed!

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit Thu 04-Jul-13 09:12:20

Fingers crossed!

ChocChaffinch Thu 04-Jul-13 09:12:59

<eyes inbox>

hurrah for sunshine grin
oooh love the beach hut shed paint idea will collect some images hold up

ChocChaffinch Thu 04-Jul-13 09:14:01
ChocChaffinch Thu 04-Jul-13 09:15:29

Fab aren't they ChocChaffinch? I want a pale and white one!

Good luck everyone..

ChocChaffinch Thu 04-Jul-13 09:36:12

fan I like the stripes, love the vertical striped doors against the horizontal striped sides. probably mint green and ?? or sage green and chocolate... or pale blue and biscuit....

My post should have said blue! Ds always picks those colours out at seaside as they are his football teams colours but would lend themselves perfectly to this. Ee have a garage full of junk already so it would be a little den.

If we don't get picked someone somewhere needs to make my hut. I'll be happy just to know its real grin

ChocChaffinch Thu 04-Jul-13 10:18:25

see now I've worked my way around the whole B&Q site I've got about 6 different plans grin

ChocChaffinch Thu 04-Jul-13 10:50:40

anything yet, anyone...? good luck all

Spirael Thu 04-Jul-13 10:52:28

I hope the announcement comes soon, otherwise I'm going to run out of fingernails! shock wink

ChocChaffinch Thu 04-Jul-13 11:07:19

by signers on this thread approx. 80 entrants? probably more who haven't signed in = 100 entrants = 1/5 chance??? grin

UserError Thu 04-Jul-13 12:22:13

Has anyone found out yet? I am sitting in Starbucks and if I'm chosen, I should probably leave so I don't startle anyone when I squeal.

JakeBullet Thu 04-Jul-13 13:41:20

No news as yet....of course this coild be because I haven't been chosen lol.

Whether I get picked or not [fingers crossed] this thread has encouraged me to start actively planning what I want in my garden and what I'd like to change. It's nice weather (supposedly) this weekend, so I will be treating my fence. It's currently various different panels and shades so treating it will smarten it up nicely.

I would like some colourful lanterns hanging from the fences to brighten them up, and somewhere nice to sit and eat.

I'm also pondering what to do about my dog damaged lawn......

Oh and I need to sort out all my patio area that's got weeds between every bit of paving!

JakeBullet Thu 04-Jul-13 14:20:53

I've got a weed choked patio too. Must check email. ....again grin

LoveBeingUpAt4InTheMorning Thu 04-Jul-13 14:33:40

come on

ChocChaffinch Thu 04-Jul-13 14:56:44

any news ....???

No email here yet

I suppose all the lucky ones are down at B & Q, and have no time to Mumsnet.

If I don't win I hope seeing everyone's photos gives me a kick up the bum to do my garden.

Especially if we're getting a heat wave!

Good luck

ratbagcatbag Thu 04-Jul-13 15:01:49

No email either, mnhq must all be watching the tennis with pimms, I can only see that as the reasonably explanation why they haven't emailed me yet grin

ChocChaffinch Thu 04-Jul-13 15:03:00

don't they all quaff lambrini?

UserError Thu 04-Jul-13 15:04:06

Bastarding bastards. I checked my e-mail, saw 'Mumsnet' and my heart leaped... then I realised it was just the newsletter. Stop toying with meeeeee.

PeachActiviaMinge Thu 04-Jul-13 15:19:32

Its going to be the same as the steam mop you know. Everyone was told emails would go out one day then at 7pm told it'd be the next day, same thing happened next day too grin

florencebabyjo Thu 04-Jul-13 15:21:04

This is actually torture!

Messandmayhem Thu 04-Jul-13 15:24:17

I haven't been obsessing over this all day at all, oh no

Any news?

LIZS Thu 04-Jul-13 15:31:44

so has no one heard yet?

I was thinking the same, I bet the have forgotten to let us know again!

ratbagcatbag Thu 04-Jul-13 15:33:50

Choc I reckoned about forty posters on here saying entered, majority of posts are duplicates from us lot obsessing smile so better than 1 in 5, and also depended on whether we ticked the happy to be filmed box as well, I think some weren't. smile

Do you think a lot of people enter and don't comment or vice versa?

I think there will be quite a few people who enter but don't comment on thread. I don't always comment when I enter these things.

Fingers crossed there aren't that many for this one though and that our odds are good smile

I think my chances are slim. I have already won on Mumsnet this

I think my chances are slim. I have already won on Mumsnet this

UserError Thu 04-Jul-13 16:02:45

I'm going to defect to NetHuns cry if we don't hear soon.

JakeBullet Thu 04-Jul-13 16:16:08

No news yet for anyone? . Got a feeling that MNHQ had to wait for rhe final nod from B&Q before, so that might hold things up. Think that last time people were notified 24 hrs after the original plan to send emails as B & Q were lateiin notnotifying their agreement back.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth Thu 04-Jul-13 16:19:05

I must have checked my emails at least 100 times today and check this thread every 15mins to see if anyone has been chosen

Looks like its going to be tomorrow now. Unless the lucky 20 have been chosen but are too busy in B&Q to post grin

KatieBMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 04-Jul-13 17:07:07

Sorry for the delay folks, we'll be in touch with those selected tomorrow we just wanted to keep you waiting a little longer grin

JakeBullet Thu 04-Jul-13 17:10:10

Thanks Katie grin will expect my email tomorrow then

Sokmonsta Thu 04-Jul-13 17:28:40

Remaining optimistic then. Especially as ds1 has decided to make a start and dug several small holes around the garden, the little monkey treasure.

LoveBeingUpAt4InTheMorning Thu 04-Jul-13 18:19:54

Yes you may email me tomorrow grin

Thanks Katie, still in with a chance then grin

JaquelineHyde Thu 04-Jul-13 21:32:59

Oh hurrah, I can dream about my amazing new garden for one more night before MNHQ and B&Q cruelly crush those dreams and laugh in my face.

I knew that was gonna happen!

florencebabyjo Thu 04-Jul-13 22:00:20

It is lovely going to bed feeling this excited, a bit like Christmas.
sad, I know, but true. smile

DH keeps asking me if they've chosen yet. Think he's fantasising about a non-leaky shed!

halestone Thu 04-Jul-13 23:32:49

Hopefully still in with a chance then, i've already asked my nan to babysit if i win so i can get it done in peace without worrying about the babygrin

The suspense of waiting to be told I haven't won is killing me.

ratbagcatbag Fri 05-Jul-13 09:07:52

And so another day of refreshing thread and checking emails begins.

halestone Fri 05-Jul-13 09:52:12

I agree with Petecampbell, the suspense to be told i havn't won is killing me haha.

LegoAcupuncture Fri 05-Jul-13 10:24:01

Just popping my head in the door before I go to work.

JakeBullet Fri 05-Jul-13 10:59:05

The suspense to wait for the email NOT to arrive is killing me too grin

UserError Fri 05-Jul-13 11:33:54

Mumsnet, you are ruining my plans for the day. How can I possibly take DS to the park, where I won't have internet access? <sobs>

Hurry up, yer mean barstuards. wink

WibbleBoy Fri 05-Jul-13 11:55:57

I've just received notification that I'm a winner...

...of the Nigerian National Lottery <evil grin>

B&Q just emailed me.

Not about winning anything though.

Messandmayhem Fri 05-Jul-13 12:05:54

I'm driving past b&q later... Give me a reason to go looking for inspiration!

ive just had my lunch, a nice tuna and egg salad, yumyum and thought i'd check in

CheshireSplat Fri 05-Jul-13 12:31:03

Has anyone heard yet? Will the winners get emails or PMs? Want to win but a little worried I over estimates what can be done in 2 weeks' worth of evenings and weekends!

Hellohippo Fri 05-Jul-13 12:33:11

I have a week off, I have high hopes for what I can achieve if I ever get off MN and I'd need the gift card

I'm a sahm and my dd is at school, so really I should be able to get a lot done grin

I'm very bossy so DH will get loads done. grin

AngelieMumsnet (MNHQ) Fri 05-Jul-13 12:41:19

Hi everyone, I've emailed those who have been selected, so congratulations to the lucky 20 and sorry to those who weren't selected this time

What if I deviate a bit? Will you come and take it all back shock

k8vincent Fri 05-Jul-13 13:36:12

Sigh. Back to staring out of the window at my pile of concrete.

Hellohippo Fri 05-Jul-13 13:38:48

Excited and scared of appearing in a video,, thanks for the chance to overhaul the garden. I have already been looking on b&q website.

Spirael Fri 05-Jul-13 13:41:29

Aww... That's twice B&Q have rejected my garden, now! I guess I should just take the hint. wink

Well done to the lucky 20! This has definitely given me a kick to do something with the garden though so ill be saving pennies as of today grin

hurricanewyn Fri 05-Jul-13 13:49:40

Well done everyone who was picked

lissieloo Fri 05-Jul-13 14:00:14

I've been selected too, I'm so pleased. I went to the hospital to have an injection into my hip this morning, so was feeling pretty crappy, and then I got the email!!

Thank you, we shall get the decking ASAP and DH and I can spend his days off getting it tidied up and done.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Sokmonsta Fri 05-Jul-13 14:20:04

Congratulations to the lucky people. I will be thinking of you slaving away in your gardens in this gloriously hot weather while I relax and sip a glass of something nice and chilled convinces self she's not jealous

BeehavingBaby Fri 05-Jul-13 14:29:13

Oh s**t, I got picked. My garden is awful...needs a re-vamp before the 'before' pictures!

Ohhelpohnoitsa Fri 05-Jul-13 14:33:42

ah well done you lucky twenty. Got the invoice for our ground work to make a flat base for play area and patio....was nearly five.hundred quid so now have no cash to get the finishing touches done. Wish we had been selected but hey go. good luck to those who have been chosen, really really well done!

SmellsLikeWeenSpirits Fri 05-Jul-13 14:37:27

Thanks guys, I'm stupidly happy, have been walking around like this grin

Perhaps all you lovelies who are being so nice and magnanimous could join in with suggestions? I plan to make a path where previously there was none, and i might actually be able to get in my front door, but I'm going to need suggestions for plants to go down the sides to make my ugly, concrete house look beeeautiful

OpheliaBumps Fri 05-Jul-13 14:57:09

Wow, can't believe I got picked - I never win anything!

Woohoo I can finally turn our preschooler playgorund into a garden we can all enjoy grin

Can't wait to finish work and start writing my shopping list.

Well done everyone.

DH will be relieved we weren't picked. Until I drag him off to B&Q anyway. grin

Can't wait to see your pictures!

ratbagcatbag Fri 05-Jul-13 15:06:16

Mnhq, you appear to have misdirected my email, I will obviously on this occasion accept your humble apologies as I eagerly wait for it to be sent my way grin

JakeBullet Fri 05-Jul-13 16:26:09

Didn't get picked AGAIN....I applied for the last one to do my garden too. sad

Still I suspect my application did bit give a clear enough vision of what I wanted to achieve.

Well done to all who got picked, I'll look forward to seeing the photos.

Dysgu Fri 05-Jul-13 16:28:04

Happy gardening to all those who got picked. I imagine DP will be happy we didn't get picked as it was/is such a tight deadline...but I was really hoping we might get this one!

Will have to keep dreaming of how we can turn our little yard into a useful garden and look forward to seeing what everyone else does.

VirgoGrr Fri 05-Jul-13 19:45:05

Aaaaaaaaaa! Thank you Angelie! I had forgotten all about this, it's been so long since I entered. smile Bless your Mumsnet socks, I am so pleased.

DP is out tonight so I am going to have a couple of V&Ts and spend the evening on the b&q website making a shopping list. :D Rock and roll, me.

ChocChaffinch Fri 05-Jul-13 20:37:03

well done winners <sobs>

Openyourheart Fri 05-Jul-13 20:59:53

I'm in! Yay smile)

CaptainJamesTKirk Fri 05-Jul-13 21:02:42

Didn't get selected sad

My DH though is grin and very relieved.

LegoAcupuncture Fri 05-Jul-13 21:23:09

Well done to the 20. Just in time for the lovely weather, make sure you wear sun cream.

Openyourheart Sat 06-Jul-13 18:16:52

So what is everyone doing? I'm hoping to clear an area of scrub and turn it into a vegetable plot. I might make a few raised beds. Perhaps I'll have some money left over for a little greenhouse. I think mine is quite simple but it will be hard work.

lissieloo Sat 06-Jul-13 20:24:21

Tomorrow we are making a start, will prep the area that we will be decking and clear away the veg patch area. I am very excited!

I'm planning on a little deck with a bistro set and some trellising with my honeysuckle growing up, over from that a tiny veg patch with edging. If we can afford it we will get a couple of low fence panels and a new gate too. I can see it in my mind, and am trying to persuade dh to get a cherry or apple tree.

I'll be doing my before video tomorrow.

On the application I said I'd like to create a 'secret garden' style garden, when I got picked I was thinking 'uh oh' now I actually have to come up with something. smile
Think I've got it sussed now though.

We need to remove old shed (we will keep the door), and dig over the whole area we are doing up.
The back fence will have nailed to it...a trellis panel, the old shed door then another trellis panel. I plan to grow jasmine up the trellis but obviously this won't happen before the 28th but am hoping you'll still get the idea.

A small patio created in front of this and flower beds around it.

lissieloo Sat 06-Jul-13 21:10:07

Oh, that sounds lovely! I was looking at it today and I can't wait to get started, ds and I have been out and only half the garden is currently usable. When you have a titchy garden anyway, that aint good grin

Does anyone know, if I put down decking tiles can I put then directly onto the groundsheet and gravel?

OpheliaBumps Sun 07-Jul-13 13:36:31

My application was to turn our playground into a garden we can all enjoy, so most of my budget will be om plants - been pricing them up today and there's some lovely plants available now.

Most of the effort will be in the planting, working out how to keep the toys under control, and painting the tired looking fence etc. I'm considering their cheapest bench too, so there's a permanent place for me and DH to sit while the kids play.

VirgoGrr Sun 07-Jul-13 13:48:08

I have been a bit cheeky and rung my local store. They understand that I've not had the card yet, so have suggested that I go and pick stuff out and they'll hold it in 'reserve and collect' so I can go and collect it one night after work. Going to go and spend some time shopping now!

lissieloo Sun 07-Jul-13 14:28:18

I priced up last night and added to basket. With a bbq it will cost £317.

JakeBullet Sun 07-Jul-13 18:29:01

I didn't get picked but I am so looking forward to seeing the transformations. Your ideas all sound fantastic, am hoping to steal some ideas wink

OpheliaBumps Sun 07-Jul-13 20:14:57

I've just been looking at the timings for my plan, and It's looking like 70ish hours! I wasn't expecting it to be so high, especially as DH is on a stag do next weekend, and we've got 2 events the weekend after so will be lucky to manage more than 4 hours per day that weekend.

Looks like a lot of evening work is coming up, about to go and project plan so I can see how I'm getting on with my schedule.

May I run my plan past you?
Any advice or suggestions for changes/improvements will be greatly appreciated smile

The area is around 15ft by 15ft.
Archway entrance, would like the wooden one, but will probably get metal as cheaper.
At the back left corner there is a large tree, think its a rowan. Planning on hanging these from it...

The tree isn't actually in my garden so will have to ask the neighbours permission.

Will paint the secret garden door, fence and trellis in this colour...

I have some spare wood that I can use to create slightly raised flower beds on either side of the seating area.

Patio slabs are hugely expensive though, any ideas what else I could use?

Openyourheart Mon 08-Jul-13 04:27:08

Looks very pretty.

OpheliaBumps Mon 08-Jul-13 09:09:38

How about the value decking squares instead of paving slabs? Love those hearts, think I might get a couple of those after I've finished mine (ie. not part of the £300 makeover, as they'd take me over budget, but as a separate thing once my 'after' pictures are finished).

They are very pretty aren't they, I'm going to put in them a white pot with a trailing plant with white flowers,
Value decking squares, off to check them out, thank you.

lissieloo Mon 08-Jul-13 11:49:22

That all looks really lovely!

OpheliaBumps Mon 08-Jul-13 12:34:08

Has anyone had their voucher yet? Mine hasn't arrived yet and I really want to get cracking sad the first thing I need is some fence treatment for £7 so I'm considering buying that myself, and making sure there's £7 left on the voucher at the end, just so I can get started on de-algaeing the fence.

lissieloo Mon 08-Jul-13 12:50:13

Mine hasn't arrived either, which is a bummer because I was hoping to go to B&Q tonight and get it delivered tomorrow ready for us to start work on Wednesday. Never mind, it'll be here soon enough. In the meantime, I am browsing the site

lissieloo Mon 08-Jul-13 13:13:34

I've just had an email, there was a delay, but they are being sent out today.

Openyourheart Mon 08-Jul-13 14:15:03

I've had to hire a skip to get rid of all the junk. It is now sitting on my drive waiting to be filled. It should be good to see our pictures once the thread is up and running.

lissieloo Mon 08-Jul-13 14:41:04

It will, we need to look at skips too.

I can't decide between these gates, what d'ya think?

number 1

number 2

number 3

They will be against these fence panels

We have a jack russell dog, so it needs to be secure.

I like gate #1 lissie.

Can't afford a skip at the moment so all rubbish will just be dumped at the side of the house and we'll do runs to the council tip.

If I had all the ground prepared, and supplied all materials, how much do you think for a builder to lay 25 slabs?

Hellohippo Mon 08-Jul-13 15:36:17

Another vote for gate 1 here, I am very keen to get started I am on my 3rd plan on the B&Q website I have spent the money so many times over

I've placed my order smile
Phoned the store and explained the circumstances and the lovely man said he'll keep my order until the weekend.
Giftcards should definitely be here by then.

Anyone had any emails about this fieldnotes app we are supposed to be using?

OpheliaBumps Mon 08-Jul-13 20:01:57

lissie I like gate 1, but I think 3 might go better with your fencing. 3 is also a bit cheaper so leaves you some over for a planter, hanging basket, whatever else you need.

A Skip? <faints> and I was worried about prepping my fence, let alone having to empty my garden into a skip!

No, I've not had anything about the app, going to google it now to see what I can find out.

Cremolafoam Mon 08-Jul-13 20:08:24

Gah! Finally found this thread- well hidden MN ! So delighted to win something!!!!
and am bricking it a bit as my plan was uber ambitiousblush
I have taken some very embarrassing
Before pics already. And drawn out a plan on the back of an envelope .
Really want to get as many plants as possible. Dh want a chipper to help get shot of all the branches were hoping to chop down (.he has half the money spent in his head)
Too damn hot to do anything ATM grin

Cremolafoam Mon 08-Jul-13 20:09:51

Thought we needed a skip too but chipping might solve thatconfused
So don't want to squander the money tho

Openyourheart Mon 08-Jul-13 20:54:38

lisieloo No 1 is my fave, but I always have expensive tastes ;)

Openyourheart Mon 08-Jul-13 20:56:03

lisieloo No 1 is my fave, but I always have expensive tastes ;)

Openyourheart Mon 08-Jul-13 20:57:57

I have been filling the skip. It is a mini one and I fear it is way too small. Some of the rubbish is dried out twigs and branches. Is it against the law to make a bonfire? I could pretend I am having an early Guy Fawkes party maybe? wink

OpheliaBumps Mon 08-Jul-13 21:11:24

I'm sure you can burn garden waste, as long as it's an occasional activity, and no harmful substances are being burned.

I would suggest not to do it when everyone has their washing out/windows open, so ideally early morning or late evening.

Cremolafoam Mon 08-Jul-13 21:25:16

It is de riguer to have a bonfire here on the 11th July.grin

Openyourheart Mon 08-Jul-13 21:55:29

Perhaps I should buy a garden incinerator with the vouchers. smile

SmellsLikeWeenSpirits Mon 08-Jul-13 22:07:11

Ok, my plan is forming.

Our unloved garden is our front patch. I'll go into more detail on the feedback thread, but my plan is to go for hardcore building materials I think, rather than prettifying touches. I hope his is ok with mn and the b&q bods

We need a path and I think railway sleepers to form a defined sidey bit rather than the heap of weed and stones that we've got

I'm just a bit concerned that blowing the whole budget on just a few materials isn't quite in the spirit of this thing....

OpheliaBumps Mon 08-Jul-13 22:33:03

ween I think we were all picked for different reasons, I think B&Q are hoping to see loads of different ideas, not just 20 identikit gardens.

Front gardens are often neglected, so I love the idea of making that space more loved, rather than just a route to/from the house.

Babieseverywhere Mon 08-Jul-13 23:17:20

We have been working hard this weekend...well my DH has. Poor man spent many hours in this hot weather, clearing the bottom third of the garden, which is never used and just a dumping ground. The idea is to sort out the paving and situate our shed and trampoline on this bottom area.

Then do something with the middle area, paint fencing, fit water feature and some pots with flowers.

We have several days of cleaning/clearing to be done before we can start doing the positive things.

Debating about a new playhouse for the children or sticking with what we have got.

OpheliaBumps Mon 08-Jul-13 23:22:29

Ooh babies I've seen a lovely playhouse in b&q for £200, it's called kitty and it's huge!

I think we might look at one of these for my DTs 4th birthday in August, as they're outgrowing their old one and their grandparents always send money for us to choose a gift.

lissieloo Tue 09-Jul-13 09:46:55

It's just come!!!

Whoohoo happy spending lissieloo.

lissieloo Tue 09-Jul-13 16:06:41

I have just called the store because I was worrying about getting everything home. If I spend over £250 they will deliver, I'm so relieved.

Roma2013 Tue 09-Jul-13 16:09:28

Received my gift voucher today and they've extended the date for completion... which is good. Does anyone know where we put the 'before' pics up? (Took me ages to find where THIS thread had been put!)

lissieloo Tue 09-Jul-13 16:12:37

I mean delivery will be free. they deliver over £100.

Roma, it's not open yet, I've created a folder for my pics in the meantime.

Cremolafoam Tue 09-Jul-13 16:41:48

Our makeover is the front garden too ophelia. It's not huge but in this heat( 28.2• ) planting anything is just daft .i am daunted and hotconfused

OpheliaBumps Tue 09-Jul-13 18:05:26

roma when is the completion date now? Am so relieved as I was concerned I wouldn't get it all done on time.

cremola our front garden is unmakeoverable, it's a 6 foot lawn on a 1 in 3 gradient, with a small flower bed at the bottom. That'll never be lovable! I'm doing the back garden, adding in some plants and a seat and making an adult space as it's currently end to end outdoor toys for the kids.

Openyourheart Tue 09-Jul-13 19:34:08

Did you have to sign for the voucher? I have to collect something from the post office. I'm excited now. I could collect it tomorrow and start shopping as I have a day off!!!

Mine didnt come sad
Am in the Scottish highlands, so hopefully tomorrow.

No worries, b&q said they'll keep my order until the weekend anyway.

Roma2013 Tue 09-Jul-13 19:55:46

Completion date s now 28 July I think

Roma2013 Tue 09-Jul-13 19:56:45

Mine came as a gift card, not a voucher

Does anyone know if the videos you upload need to be in chronological order?
Because I could shoot before footage of the garden tonight, but would rather shoot my introductory piece to camera tomorrow (when I've showered and don't look like a sweaty lump)

lissieloo Tue 09-Jul-13 21:29:42

Mine was a card too, I had to sign for it.

Dh and I are going shopping tomorrow. I'm rather excited, poor dh will be knackered when I'm done with him grin

OpheliaBumps Tue 09-Jul-13 21:59:41

Lissie haha your poor DH! Are you going to take a photo of all of your shopping before you start using it?

I'm hoping mine arrives tomorrow, I'm so impatient grin

lissieloo Wed 10-Jul-13 08:01:48

I am indeed. I have my list all ready!

Openyourheart Wed 10-Jul-13 11:07:40

Got the card. Yay! I've bought an incinerator to burn the twigs and dead branches, a sprinkler to water the veg that I will grow, and a nozzle for my hose. £70 gone. I'm thinking that mine is sounding very dull so far....
