KatieBMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 10-Jun-13 10:08:04

We've been asked by the team at Schwartz to find 250 Mumsnetters to try their new range of 2in1 recipe mixes. Here's what they say: "The new 2in1 range offers two easy to use recipe mix sachets in one handy pack: one sachet flavours the main dish whilst the other contains a seasoning for a complementary side dish or topping. With five different varieties to choose from, and an easy recipe on the back of each pack, this is a great way to try out new dishes or transform an existing family favourite from ordinary to special."

This product test is open to all UK Mumsnetters with at least one child living at home. Please note all the recipes feature chicken so with regret are not suitable for vegetarians or vegans - sorry!

If you are selected to take part, you'll be sent all of the five 2in1 sachets and asked to include these in your regular family meals (please note you will have to buy the other ingredients yourself):

- Garlic & Thyme roast chicken + crispy roast potatoes

- Chicken Tikka + mint & cucumber raita

- Mediterranean chicken pasta + crispy crumb topping

- Southern style crunchy chicken bites + BBQ dip

- Garlic & herb crunchy chicken bites + cheese & chive dip

RRP £1.29 per sachet.

We want you to try the sachets over the course of 3 weeks and add feedback to the thread each time you use one of the recipe mixes (so please only apply if you'll be able to try at least three of the recipes!). Testers will also be required to upload pictures of their creations to the feedback thread.

Everyone who is selected and who adds at least three sets of feedback to the thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £500 John Lewis voucher!

So if you'd like to take part, please sign up here.

Thanks and good luck,

<eternal optimist>

Signed up. Would be nice to have new food ideas for a fussy family <sigh>

AnneEyhtMeyer Mon 10-Jun-13 13:14:16

Signed up but not hopeful. Haven't been picked for anything since I changed my nickname at new year.

These do sound very tasty - I fancy a bit of the garlic roast chicken.

TheBreastmilksOnMe Mon 10-Jun-13 13:49:09

KatieB, will I be able to take part? Being coeliac, as I'm sure they all contain gluten?

BOF Mon 10-Jun-13 13:52:04

Wouldn't have thought so, no.

AnneEyhtMeyer Mon 10-Jun-13 14:46:41

TheB - the links show the ingredients and they all contain wheat.

Lilliana Mon 10-Jun-13 14:52:31

Done. Fingers crossed we can eat something different for a change!

TheBreastmilksOnMe Mon 10-Jun-13 15:58:43

Not for me then, thanx guys.

Indith Mon 10-Jun-13 16:28:33

neat idea, I think they seem like good family friendly cooking and menu planning aides. however, . have you seen the salt for the pasta bake one? 29% shock ouch. I love a food based test but 3 blw children and years of cutting salt I can't stand stuff that is so salty.

Glitterfairys Mon 10-Jun-13 17:07:25

Done !!grin

EliotNess Mon 10-Jun-13 17:08:49

great s1 can use these to cook for us

whattodoo Mon 10-Jun-13 18:31:23

The dishes look a bit more interesting than what I usually serve. Imagination is not my strong point.

LentilAsAnything Mon 10-Jun-13 20:13:34

I'm vegan, and I could easily veganise these meals. If the sachets are vegan, I'd like to be included!

LentilAsAnything Mon 10-Jun-13 20:14:41

^^Ignore. I've found the sachet ingredients, I'm out!

blondieminx Mon 10-Jun-13 20:18:12

Done smile

SacreBlue Mon 10-Jun-13 20:22:35

Tee excellent motto!

I love doing lunch parties so more than happy to give all 5 a test run at once for a select group of victims lucky friends smile

BrianButterfield Mon 10-Jun-13 20:23:03

Done. I had the southern chicken one today and it was really nice and very easy. Never used to use mixes but with a toddler and a ft job I need all the short cuts I can get!

Puppypoppet Mon 10-Jun-13 21:14:21

ChocolateOrangeforDd Tue 11-Jun-13 08:22:17

All contain wheat....that counts me out. Is it really necessary to have wheat in seasoning products???

florencebabyjo Tue 11-Jun-13 13:00:44

This should help kick start a few changes at dinnertime!

Munxx Tue 11-Jun-13 13:50:02

Snoot Wed 12-Jun-13 14:59:58

I am feeling so lacklustre at the moment, these look like they could be quick and easy and produce interesting results? We shall see...

Gah - nothing for veggies? Not impressed.

helenthemadex Wed 12-Jun-13 16:17:30

they sound good have signed up

Theimpossiblegirl Wed 12-Jun-13 19:53:49

Porto- could send you some once they're in the shops.

bochead Thu 13-Jun-13 12:00:34

Will give it a go. DS and his bessie are keen on cooking at present and these look simple enough to follow with adult supervision. They'd enjoy being "critics" too.

mmmmmm...... done. And now I'm hungry!

wickeddevil Thu 13-Jun-13 20:43:39

Drooling at garlic and thyme roasted chicken.....

Groovee Fri 14-Jun-13 07:27:59

AnneEyhtMeyer Sat 15-Jun-13 21:25:43

I actually looked for these in the supermarket today because I can't stop thinking about the garlic roast chicken. Couldn't find them - are they not out yet?

NoHank Sun 16-Jun-13 11:21:09

Have also signed up. I'm always trying to think of meals that everyone will like so would like to give these a try. Fingers crossed

Blatherskite Mon 17-Jun-13 10:36:30

Done. Sounds perfect for busy after school evenings.

lunar1 Mon 17-Jun-13 10:51:33

Have the testers been chosen yet? Just saw the feedback thread.

Theimpossiblegirl Mon 17-Jun-13 12:44:02

Yay! I got chosen. Thank you. I will test them all and do pics. I love posting pics of food online (even if my children give me funny looks when we eat out). I'm hoping to involve them in the cooking too.

me too smile I will give it my best shot and try and make the result photogenic. grin

Bluemonkeyspots Mon 17-Jun-13 13:11:49

Yay, I got chosen! Can anyone tell me if its possible to upload pictures of my masterpieces from my iPhone or do I need to do it the old fashioned way?

Blatherskite Mon 17-Jun-13 13:22:09

Hoorah! Better get some chicken in smile

Pascha Mon 17-Jun-13 13:25:00

I got it too. I can't upload pics from my iphone to mumsnet so it will be the old fashioned way here too.

fuzzpig Mon 17-Jun-13 13:28:43

Oh yay I got picked too! Can't wait to try them! smile

AnneEyhtMeyer Mon 17-Jun-13 13:39:51

Oh brilliant! I've always got loads of chicken in as it is just about the only thing DD will eat.

Can't wait for them to arrive - I really really want garlic roast chicken!

PestoSwimissimos Mon 17-Jun-13 13:45:07

I got selected too - yay!!

SisterMatic Mon 17-Jun-13 13:45:23

Wahoo I got picked too! Can't wait to try them all...thank you! I will upload pics.

GrandPoohBah Mon 17-Jun-13 13:48:00

Ooh, I got chosen! Just forwarded the email to DH, his response was 'so we'll be eating chicken over the next couple of weeks then?!'. We don't normally eat a lot of chicken...

MTBMummy Mon 17-Jun-13 14:13:04

Yay - I'm in!!!

DP thinks I've gone mad

aristocat Mon 17-Jun-13 14:19:16

me too grin cannot wait to get started!

Greywacke Mon 17-Jun-13 15:03:45

Looking forward to trying these next week smile

Theimpossiblegirl Mon 17-Jun-13 16:07:22

Just told DD and she has offered to do the cooking.

Yay, I got picked! I'm really looking forward to trying these, but I can't guarantee the quality of my pics!

NoHank Mon 17-Jun-13 17:51:12

Picked too! Really looking forward to giving these a go. I don't eat red meat and DH thinks he is allergic to veg so we eat a lot of chicken in this house and I'm always looking for new recipes.

woo hoo I got picked, which is lucky really as I haven't done any meal plans or shopping blush

cherrycherry41 Mon 17-Jun-13 19:59:23

wahooooo grin

Fraxinus Mon 17-Jun-13 20:07:07

Wow, I will need to get lots of chicken in!

Thanks for the opportunity to try it. I thinki might get my kids involved in cooking it too.

DoodleAlley Mon 17-Jun-13 20:13:00

Yay we are in. I'm looking forward to the garlic chicken bites and dip.

Nom nom nom!

Tee2072 Mon 17-Jun-13 20:16:50

I'm in too, whoot!

Thanks HQ!

lunar1 Tue 18-Jun-13 10:02:32

Thank you mumsnet!

florencebabyjo Tue 18-Jun-13 14:27:16

Thanks, that's great DS now wants to try them out and has offered to cook for the family, great!

Just arrived, they look interesting. Typically I didn't order chicken this week smile

I hope you lot haven't got posho plates/serving bowls for your pictures. i have Pyrex. blush

Mine just arrived. feel a bit nervous now.

SisterMatic Wed 19-Jun-13 11:54:54

Mine just arrived! Think one may make its debut tonight.

Have you got presentation table ware Sister? Has it got to look like the picture? <stresses>

SisterMatic Wed 19-Jun-13 11:58:58

My tableware is fabulously clashing erm...unique.

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 19-Jun-13 12:56:47

Mine have just arrived!

I have two sachets of the Garlic &Thyme Roast chicken mix (not complaining, this would be my number one choice!) but no Garlic & Herb crunchy chicken bites mix, which is a bit disappointing.

Looking forward to having the roast chicken tonight!

I will wait for someone else to have a go. <chicken>

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 19-Jun-13 13:02:10

Also just noticed that the front of the Mediterranean Chicken pasta says it is a "Cheesy Crumb Topping" but on the back it is a "Garlic & Herb Crumb topping" and no sign of cheese in the ingredients. confused

SisterMatic Wed 19-Jun-13 13:15:13

I think I have the complete set, will double check. Only had time to have a quick peek at the instructions but looks like I will be buying natural yoghurt in the next shop...never had to use that in a packet mix before. The proof is in the mix pudding as they say. Can't wait to try them.

Where is the feedback thread? Can't find it.

Manchesterhistorygirl Wed 19-Jun-13 13:18:14

I didn't get the you've been chosen email, but my packets arrived this morning!

D we have to take pictures?

SisterMatic Wed 19-Jun-13 13:21:37

If someone could point me in the right direction of the feedback thread too that would be great, I can't find it.

Blatherskite Wed 19-Jun-13 13:25:12

Nothing here yet and the postman has been already. Hopefully they'll be here tomorrow.

aristocat Wed 19-Jun-13 13:29:41

No sachets here yet either ...

GrandPoohBah Wed 19-Jun-13 15:54:21

Mine arrived today - the package wasn't very secure and was completely open on one side where the paper had ripped.

Best get shopping for some chicken then! The cheesy crumb topping for the pasta does say garlic and herb on the back, but when you look at the ingredients list it says to sprinkle grated cheese on top of the crumb, which presumably makes it cheesy grin

SisterMatic Wed 19-Jun-13 16:15:12

The pasta bake one says you can substitute chicken for tuna, sounds tasty

Pascha Wed 19-Jun-13 16:16:34

No post for me today.

SisterMatic Wed 19-Jun-13 19:11:45

I am cooking one now <gulp>

Anyone found the feedback thread yet?

SisterMatic Wed 19-Jun-13 19:23:17

Nope, kinda need it soon too

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 19-Jun-13 19:54:24

Can't find the feedback thread either, and have just eaten the first meal!

SisterMatic Wed 19-Jun-13 19:56:53

What did you have Anne? I made the Med pasta one

Did you take pics?

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 19-Jun-13 19:58:44

I made the garlic and thyme roast chicken. And yes, I took pics!

It was lovely. How was the pasta?

SisterMatic Wed 19-Jun-13 19:59:58

I did Sparkling.. of my daughters plate which is Peppa pig grin
I also took some of it in the pan. I wasn't sure which to use tbh

SisterMatic Wed 19-Jun-13 20:01:03

Anne that looks delicious cant wait to try that one.

It was nice, quite strong flavours. DD liked it too

Waiting for the feedback thread to as I also have cooked my first one today though I think they are doing the feedback thread on Friday but fingers crossed they make one early lol.

I am behind. Must buy chicken and new tableware tomorrow.

Fraxinus Wed 19-Jun-13 20:09:52

Oh no I forgot to take pics!

I made the garlic and herb chicken with cheese and chive dip, for 4 little girls. They ate it all up and asked for seconds.

I thought the grated cheese in the dip was a bit weird, personally, but the girls scoffed the lot. I served it with potatoes and salad.

Also, I bought a whole chicken and cut the breasts off and into chunks, and used those. I have never seen chicken mini fillets for sale in a shop.... Perhaps I don't go to big enough supermarkets.

Oh Fraxinus. grin No pics?

Fraxinus Wed 19-Jun-13 20:12:14

I know, what a twerp! I have to say I find it something of a strain having other kids round for tea and I clean forgot!

SisterMatic Wed 19-Jun-13 20:12:23

I found myself cleaning the toaster as it was in the background of one of the pics blush

Theimpossiblegirl Wed 19-Jun-13 20:12:28

My sachets have arrived but instead of Garlic & Herb Crunchy Chicken Bites I got 2 of the Garlic & Thyme Roast Chicken. Will be cooking our first meal on Friday night.

i might put mine in the garden for pics. Don't want judginess of my kitchen. grin

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 19-Jun-13 20:17:00

I had exactly the same, Theimpossible. Maybe they ran out of the other one?

NoHank Wed 19-Jun-13 21:29:23

Just menu planned for next week and done a shopping list and realised I've not planned for any of the meals! And I've not received the sachets yet so fingers crossed for tomorrow.
Must remember to buy chicken smile
I'm going shopping in the morning, do the recipes ask for any specific ingredients?

SisterMatic Wed 19-Jun-13 21:33:34

Natural yoghurt is one Nohank

Hi, I got an email saying I was chosen, but haven't been able to find the feedback thread. Sachets not arrived yet, but I've stocked up on yoghurt, cheese and chicken! I saw the tuna alternative for the pasta bake, so think I will try that instead of the chicken.

Oh, and Sparklingbrook I'll be using my pyrex too, probably. Either that or my Nan's old enamelled tin which is probably older than me!

DD is 21 months and is being fussy at the moment, so I'm hoping something new will encourage her to eat her dinner. sad

KatieBMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 20-Jun-13 10:36:18

We'll send you a link to the feedback thread asap, but it's likely to be tomorrow so please keep a note of your feedback until then smile

Blatherskite Thu 20-Jun-13 10:47:44

Mine arrived this morning. Looks like a managed to score a full set of 5. Struggling to choose which one to try first!

Thanks KatieB, I didn't mean to sound like I was moaning, sorry! My set arrived this morning, We're having pasta bake tomorrow and roast chicken on Saturday. smile Really looking forward to it!

MonsterBookOfTyRexs Thu 20-Jun-13 12:12:08

WooHoo! My 5 arrived just now, quite a shock as I didn't get an email smile Thanks.

Bonkerz Thu 20-Jun-13 13:03:15

Just received 5 packs through but haven't had an email from HQ! Was surprised till I remembered MN!

NoHank Thu 20-Jun-13 14:30:37

They have arrived! I can honestly say I have never been this excited about a packet mix. I think we'll be starting with the crunchy chicken bites and maybe the pasta bake because I forgot to buy the natural yoghurt for the other recipes

Pascha Thu 20-Jun-13 15:20:46

Mine arrived in an old torn envelope this morning. Think I shall do one of the chicken bites things tonight, as thats what we have all the ingredients for, but my dip will be made with soya yoghurt as its all we have. Luckily I have a nice new kitchen table to display my culinary skills on grin.

SisterMatic Thu 20-Jun-13 16:23:15

I did the med pasta one last night with tuna, the rebel that I am! Tonight we have chicken in so I think it may be southern style.

Blatherskite Thu 20-Jun-13 17:28:41

I've just done my grocery order. It's got rather a lot of chicken in it - including lots of mini fillets smile

Bonkerz Thu 20-Jun-13 17:42:03

How do I add pictures via my iPad?...

Sister was it nice with tuna? I was going to try it that way instead of chicken. Or did you not want to post spoilers? Have I got to wait for the feedback thread? grin

LoveBeingUpAt4InTheMorning Thu 20-Jun-13 21:02:49

Mine have arrived but can make any till the weekend as have already planned for tonight and tomorrow so roll on the weekly shop.

SisterMatic Thu 20-Jun-13 21:02:51

<sharp intake of breath> Oooh I don't know about spoilers goodjam wink

It was very tasty with tuna, I enjoyed it.

Blatherskite Thu 20-Jun-13 21:32:04

I was thinking I might do that with Tuna too. It's going to be a seriously chicken-y week otherwise

SisterMatic Thu 20-Jun-13 22:00:06

You can also substitute chicken for fish another one of the mixes to make fish fingers which I may also try.

Blatherskite Thu 20-Jun-13 22:30:46

Yes, I think it's the garlic and herb one. I think that will probably work better with chicken though.

fuzzpig Thu 20-Jun-13 22:52:26

Mine haven't arrived yet but I have ordered all other ingredients for tomorrow's delivery so I hope they get here soon!

Might use tuna in the pasta bake, and we may be using turkey for a couple of the other ones.

KatieBMumsnet (MNHQ) Fri 21-Jun-13 16:06:48
SuedeEffectPochette Sat 22-Jun-13 15:13:27

I wonder if you could substitute quorn for chicken in some of these - the pasta one maybe? I might try that to get a bit more variety. Otherwise it's a lot of chicken!

Theimpossiblegirl Sat 22-Jun-13 20:11:49

Having just cooked the pasta bake, I think it would work just as well with Quorn, tuna and/or Mediterranean vegetables. Off to work out how to add pics to my feedback...
